Interesting scientology doesn’t publicize how many people have completed OT VIII (and they certainly don’t want anyone to know about Whitney Mills in the photo above — she died by self-inflicted gunshot in Clearwater in 2022).
There is, of course, a good reason the number is not publicized. It’s so low it would make it very clear there aren’t close to 10,000 on or through Solo NOTs who remain involved in scientology. There probably aren’t even 5,000 at this point.
After the years long grind and enormous expense of OT VII – not just paying for the training course (OT VI – not an “OT level” at all), but also then paying for Solo NOTs and paying for C/Sing and paying to travel to Flag every 6 months and paying for the sec check they require – OT VIII is fast and “cheap.” Anyone who can afford to make it through OT VII has the time and money to do OT VIII. They can book a ticket to Aruba and be onto and through OT VIII in a matter of a very few weeks. And attain the ultimate status certificate in scientology.
This is the pinnacle of the bridge. Surely this is the number scientology would want to promote?
I think the number was known somewhere — I have a vague recollection it was around 3,000. (If anyone has a link to an actual number please let us know).
In 74 years, this is how many people have climbed their way to the top of Hubbard’s Bridge to Total Freedom.
If it delivered 1,000th of what it promotes, people would be clamoring for scientology all over the world and moving up the bridge by the millions.

This website lists all the OT 8 completions that were posted in the Freewinds mag. If anyone has the skills to get a total from all these mags, it will give you a total that is close to the truth. https://www.truthaboutscientology.com/publications/freewinds

My ex mother in law is included in that number, she died in 1998 of a brain tumor. The only OT VIIIs that I see publicly are people like John Allender, and he exemplifies my belief that the higher you get on the OT levels, as long as you remain in Scientology, you have to do such mental gymnastics that your mind becomes increasingly disconnected. He is a frightening example of what Scientology considers sanity.

YEs, I am sure both my deceased parents are in whatever number they have too…

I have always been interested to know how many OT 8 there are currently in Scientology. I am assuming not very many. I also was interested to know how many people that were OT 8s have left Scientology.

My auditor told me when I was in that I didn’t have to worry about nuclear war anymore because there were too many OT 8’s. I’m not sure if he knew the true number either but he apparently thought there’s were enough of them to prevent nuclear war.
He also told me that when you meet an OT 8 you can just sense that they have special powers and abilities. Later on I met a couple of them and I didn’t pick up on that. Not to be judgmental but one of them was extremely overweight.

Why do Scientologists always bring a calculator to their meetings?
Because their statistics are so inflated, even they can’t keep track without it!

In the Czech Republic, OT are also just ordinary mortals. Martin Kolenička, OT, died tragically

Hello,
There were 2400 OT VIII tallied in 2012 (1989-2012) by http://www.truthaboutscientology*, including the deceased and out and excluding double completions.
If we discount the 1000 OT VIII made in the first two years of release, the average yearly is 78/year.
If they continued at a rate of 78/year for the following 12 years, there should be around 3500 OT VIII completions by now.
In 2021, you posted on your blog a poster promoting the target of 5000 OT VIII.
Hope that helps.
