The family and I, along with the Headleys, are embarking on a long-planned, end of summer vacation cruise to Alaska today.
For the next 10 days, there won’t be any new blogposts.
I have prepared a series of what I think are some of the most important posts I have done here. Starting tomorrow, there will be one each day. I will be able to moderate comments sporadically, so if you want to comment, and it takes longer than normal to appear, please be patient.
We have all been looking forward to this trip for more than a year…
North to Alaska!

Have a great, (and well-daserved) vacation with your family, Mike !

I’ve heard it said that for some strange reason Yowies and Drop Bears migrate to Alaska from Australia every year around the time you are going there. Can you let us know if it’s true.
Jere Lull says
This is long overdue, Mike et al. Vacations are GOOD! I’m still working to catch up on the holidays/weekends/”me times” I didn’t get while in that trap.

Have a wonderful time, Mike, family and Headleys! I know we’ll all be looking forward to a post about the trip when you get back – photos, pretty please??

Have fun Mike! Don’t get assigned to decks, cleaning the bilge pumps and whatnot. I hope you see lots of whales and the Northern Lights.

“North to Alaska,” one of my favorite Johnny Horton songs. I hereby declare this Mike’s official theme song for the duration of their vacation.
Go north, the rush is on!

Chris, are you familiar with the cover of “North to Alaska” by Dwight Yoakam? Give it a listen if you’ve not heard it.

I’m smiling and happy for you all.
I was born and raised in Sitka Alaska and spent my entire childhood hiking those mountains, fishing, boating and exploring around in bush planes.
If you get a layover in Sitka you can hire a small plane or a boat to take you for a tour.
My brother is still living in Sitka so I do get up there now and then but miss it everyday.
There is no doubt you’ll all love it.

I fell in love with Alaska, especially Haines and Sitka, during an extended vacation back in the early 80s. I was roaming in an RV and would have stayed but had to return to CA and care for my mom. I TRULY envy that you were able to live in Sitka so long. The place you’re living now anything like it? Hope so.
Cece says
Glenn, even better.
I live in a 24 foot Minnie Winnie and travel wherever I like.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. Hope you make it back someday.
Glenn says
Full timing huh Cece? How totally cool. I can say that because we did it for about 10 years and “lived” in many different states. But sadly never made it to Alaska because a medical problem came up. We will likely do a cruise there in the future.
24 Minnie Winnie. Know that coach well as I rented a few for vacations back when I was still working. Always liked that model.
Safe travels and great adventures Cece.

If any bears try to come aboard your vessel, remember LRH’s “hat” on handling bears swimming towards one’s boat. If not, see Claire for Cramming.
Diane Vallecillo says
I’m jealous
Can I be adopted by either the Rinder or Headley
I’m low maintenance
I do come with a cat

How fantastic. You all have to do the Icy Strait Point Zipline. There was no way I was going to do it, but Gail talked me into it with her and I can’t wait to do it again. The Alaska cruise is one of the best trips anywhere. There are so many fantastic excursions. Try doing as many as you can. There’s one trip on a helicopter that lands on a Glacier. In honor of your book, we sail to Australia from the USA just as it is being released. I hope I don’t have to word clear it. LOL Uncle Neil

The MV Freewinds should have been replaced. Didn’t I already say that?
Jere Lull says
Perhaps you’ve said it before, but it bears repeating…
ANYthing to deplete the accounts which maintain the appearance of any life in the facade of DM’s Potemkin village. The sooner he blows the money under his control, the more likely is his paying the piper for his misdeeds.
