In typical scientology fashion, the WTH IC Los Angeles Org is offering “free” WTH booklets as part of trying to ingratiate themselves with this community.
Of course, NOTHING is free in scientology, and this is a perfect opportunity to raise some more money! Though 200 booklets printed on their internal printing press would cost them a few dollars (just the cost of the paper itself) they are demanding that the full price of a $1 per booklet be “donated” so they can give these things away. They don’t mention the fact that WTH will make a handsome profit on this – like 90 cents for each booklet that is donated for. It is all presented as a totally altruistic activity.
And of course, though this is Los Angeles CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY sponsoring the event, and providing the booklet, the Way to Happiness has NOTHING to do with religion. It’s completely “non-religious”…
NNGrad says
Here is the real axioms about deliver booklets
Theres a 5 cents fee for each copy to author services if you want to print the booklets, most people would like the idea because it cost 10 cents each to print having a 85% reduction price.
But when you are ready to pay they ask a CSW explaining where are going to be delivered, who will going to deliver and so on, a 20 minute job
Once the CSW is uplines you will be being interrogated by OSA Staff about the cycle because they dont want to have a flap or an overt product and sugest to get an ethics ok from DLA at your nearest org, at this point you can had at least 20 to 30 (30 minute average) phone calls about how the cycle is going
Then, you started to get whatever ethic handling they want, in order to get out of there ASAP, you ended up buying courses and materials recently relased by 6 time or donating to their ideal org and support a TWTH distribution in Haiti.
Once you get the ethics OK, they ask you to get 3 copies of the local printing when you are suppossed to use and those copies must be sent via UPS or DHL in order to they can get a copy and decide if they meet scientology printing standars
2 months later you are notified with an CSW/P because the printing is not the quality expected.
Unless you are going to print 1 million booklets is way far better to get the copies from Bridge Publications and pay a not cheap delivery company.
So if you plan to deliver those booklets in Bolivia you can pay 360 bucks for 36 packs and be ready to pay another 200 bucks for delivery and maybe customs taxes.
You can waist your time and money in a nonending 3 to 4 month cycle.
Thats how Scientology works, everybody is full of duties pretending they are helping to clearing the planet but not having a real honest cycle of action
People who are willing to help are considered as potential troublemakers
Thats the mindset

Whole communities would be more “WTH is this, if I wanted a religion to go to there’s tons more to choose from than this”. Which would be true. Bengalis are split between Hindu (mainly West Bengal) and Muslim (mainly in Bangladesh, though Bangladesh has Hindu and Buddhist minorities). The Subcontinent has given rise to NRMs of its own – TM, Osho, Prem Rawat, Hare Krishnas (generally accepted as a legitimate Hindu group).
Further east, Japan and Taiwan has a Scientology presence but not South Korea. I suspect the powerful Christian churches in South Korea, preoccupied with opposing what they see as heresy, may be acting as a powerful cultural barrier there.

It remains remarkable to me how obvious the swindle is once you are out yet how difficult to see when you are in. Customary philanthropical fundraising is fact-based, with logical planning, such as establishment of major gifts as part of a person’s estate planning with spouse and a financial advisor. If you are in C of S, you have people knocking at your door at 10 o’clock night or stalking you outside the course room at the org or while you stroll on the deck of the Freewinds. The approach and tactics are much more “con” or mafia like than they are wise, logical, or calm. Including the “divide & conquer” of married couples, getting one to agree and pay while prohibiting them (big time) from consulting with their spouse. That steady wacky fervor alone should set off sufficient alarm bells, yet the messenger can be so rapturous and compelling, one agrees and stays. The “crazy” is infinitus.
Jere Lull says
Those “in” can’t tell those things because they are too close to the situation to recognize that it’s not normal behavior for a //church// to do those things. All they can “see” is the party lines they’re fed, each justifying the current actions being taken for the good of Teegeeack.
Since they’re generally not generally liers, they (we, a long time ago) wouldn’t believe that they were being so massively and constantly being lied to by the people they most trust. All that the Tiny Tyrant and his henchmen have to do is lie so big that no one would believe they’d lie about such a thing; It HAD to have some truth behind it.
//Wrong!//

@Jere Lull: You said it: “Since they’re generally not liars, they wouldn’t believe they were being so massively and constantly lied to by the people they most trust.”
Part of the 180 degree mind turn we each had to achieve to (wake up and) leave.

I’d guess it at maybe 25¢ per booklet – labor is cheeeep in the SO. So 50 bucks for the lot.
But they’ll probably clear a few thousand – such is the Cult these days. Whatever brings in the Almighty Dollar.
Jere Lull says
I half expect you’re overestimating the costs involved; Sea Org staff are working for free. Rice & beans is really cheap, and their berthing would be condemned if L&I had a reason to examine the facilities. I’ve semi-jokingly said that they might sometimes be jealous of the homeless living under the bridges and overpasses. At a minimum, the hobos have more personal space, can enjoy the great outdoors, and it could well be cleaner.
Todd Cray says
How does a person bringing 200 people (let’s pretend we can believe cult arithmetic) to a meeting automatically open the door to 15,000 men, women and children and fill them with ravenous desire for cult literature?
If that were so, wouldn’t they be better off inviting 200 Mexicans, plumbers or women instead to gain access to even larger groups?
And if these pamphlets are so amazingly effective at creating interest in scientology why not go for the long con, print up enough for everyone in So Cal and brace for the stampede on the orgs? It betrays a lot of despair to be forced to settle for this pathetic short con for a few hundred bucks.
I also find the donation method telling. No mention of how much money is actually needed. For 200 booklets? 15,000? At how much a pop? No status about the fundraising progress as you would find on a fundraising site, if you wish to decide whether your contribution is still needed. BD Indep Day was more than three months ago. Something tells me that the donate button may very well still work to this day!

AFAICT, Everyone BUT the Dwarfenführer wants real expansion and delivery of services. HE, on the other hand only cares that money keeps flowing into the coffers he controls. Better is that there’s no expectation that he actually has to do anything identifiable with that money, nothing to deliver, no courses, no advanced personal powers, none of the promises Ron made then broke. All he has to do is lie like a psychopath, telling of fantastical effects his programs are creating and how his marks can get the abilities they dream of just by paying until they bleed, until they have crushing debts they’ll be suffering from in *future* lifetimes. He actually claimed that his marks would get massive gains by donating to his slush fund…. And Some DID, just to prove him right.🤣

It’s a little religious.
Precept 18, he tells the reader to be tolerant of the religiously faithful. “The way to happiness can become contentious,” says Hub, “when one fails to respect the religious beliefs of others.”
Those without religious belief are another matter entirely. He calls non believers “a sorry lot” and dismisses atheism/agnosticism as a “fad.”
He also has an m/u on “logic.”
Not that surprising considering this is the same guy who claims the Abrahamic religions are but the effects of an ancient hypnotic suggestion implanted into us 75 million years ago by space fascists; that Muhammad was “a small-town booster” and a hick; that Jesus had anger issues and was “a lover of young boys” and that God is just some dude who “lives in a trunk with a leopard skin.” 😂
Jere Lull says
Right! Hypnotic implants 75,000,000 years ago in places that didn’t yet exist, when Homo erectus (our species) is less than 3 million years old. Anatomically recognizable Humans were out and about perhaps 100,000 years ago at the earliest and there’s NO evidence of anything he described having existed. It’s all a fanciful story, and one that self-evidently was false, impossible, yet ‘true believers’™ continue to contort their minds to
accept all those things and more as true in their poor, overwrought minds. No wonder everyone I knew who attested to OT III complained of the most horrible persistent headaches.
Pull your pant up, then shoot! says
I recall when long time St Louis executive Staff member Barry Coziahr handed out TWTH booklets in Ferguson during the Michael Brown BLM Pull your damn pants up, then shoot… dog and pony show.
Crime got worse.
But leave it to master manipulator and Way to Happiness Ambassador for the Midwest, the highly trained con man, Barry Coziahr, to make a video with a somewhat sleazy known politician which the cult used to gas light the cult members in buying MORE WTH booklets which are immediately thrown on the street when handed out.
Enjoy this rich satire show I found on the net.

I’m sure they were shocked that the CofS is so desperate as to publish pamphlets targeting their small community. It’s also possible they were taken aback in the wrong sort of way by being treated differently from other Americans based on assumptions about their ethnic origins and language assimilation, and Scientology is just too tone deaf and culturally insensitive to realize it.

OMG Sue, a good many years back a few girlfriends & I had a get together for a housewarming.
WHAT did these new homeowners find when clearing out the attic & basement but a boatload of LRH books, booklets, flyers, etc…….we went through them all “laughing all the way” at the nonsense Hubbard spewed forth.
We were all in complete agreement that WTH meant exactly stated “WHAT THE HELL”……since none of us could see ANY concrete truth to it.
We were at time trying to find a way to devise a COS Monopoly Game, where you CAN’T PASS GO & any $$$ collected has to be turned over to LRH…………..& you always have to start all over again.

Not to mention that these booklets do next to nothing (if not nothing) to bring anyone into their stupid “church.”

WORSE than nothing! Actually.

As hosts for this event, who will be paying for it? Will the Bengali community be expected to pony up with “donations”?

For what I remember he wrote that booklet (while hiding somewhere) more for PR purposes, right after the mess with the FBI jailing mary sue and other ten from GO for having infiltrated US government.
Any move of the cult has to result into money or statistics – and then stats must turn into money.

Yes, and it’s full of Hubbardian weasel-wording, and escape clauses for ends-justifies-the means actions, in typical cynical and manipulative fashion for the propaganda pieces produced when it seemed they need to try to mollify and soften up the ‘wogs.’

There IS no other stat than M-O-N-E-Y in the enterprise he has carved out of the organization that Ron built.

Jere, actually “Ron” created the policy that the only stat that matters is M-O-N-E-Y. Miscavige didn’t create that but is following the Admin scale created by Hubbard.
