This is another demonstration of the complete fail of the “ideal org” strategy.
Boston is one of the oldest and once largest orgs in the United States (it may still be one of the largest with 20 or so staff).
But it is important for a very particular reason. THIS is the org that L. Ron Hubbard wrote about as “proof” that it was not just him who could expand an org rapidly to SH Size.
In LRH ED 339R-1 written on 10 October 1982 L. Ron Hubbard wrote: “It only took a few weeks to build the old Saint Hill org. That they did the same thing a few years later in Boston shows that it is not just I who can do it.”
That was 33 YEARS AGO. And he was reminiscing about how Boston had once been St Hill size.
33 years later, it is still not St. Hill size. And neither are any other orgs — despite that fact that LRH says “it only takes a few weeks.”
Worse still, Boston has regressed from owning a beautiful building on Beacon St in the Back Bay, to owning a boarded-up dump of an “ideal org” building and renting a second floor office in Quincy, to putting the dump on the market after 5 years of broken promises and failing to raise the money to renovate it, to in the end, owning nothing at all.
And yet this is the HIGHEST PRIORITY for all orgs. It is a requirement for “releasing the mythological OT IX and X.” And in the face of this being the era of unprecedented expansion and the most affluent time in scientology’s history (according to their media statements).
Perhaps Miscavige can explain why Malmo and Bogota and Padova and Pretoria and Melbourne and Cambridge (etc etc etc) are more important than the org that L. Ron Hubbard cited as the example to prove to everyone that “it can be done.”
If anything, THIS should be his model “ideal SH Size org” – not LA Org now stuffed with Sea Org members in a pattern he can never duplicate.
Actually, come to think of it, Boston IS the model that is a microcosm of the whole for the world to see. It perfectly represents the fail that is organized scientology.
Read the story in the Boston Globe below.
After a years long delay, the Boston branch of the Church of Scientology will finally list for sale the decaying but historic building in the South End that it once hoped to convert into a new headquarters.
The church had previously declined to sell the five-story Hotel Alexandra, at the corner of Washington Street and Massachusetts Avenue, until it found a permanent site for a new headquarters. But spokesman Kevin Hall said the church decided to put the property up for sale while the real estate market is still strong “We just want to get it done,” Hall said. “We had hoped to fix it up faster. . . . Hopefully, [the buyer] will be a professional developer who has experience dealing with the city.”
Though it is in poor condition, numerous developers have been clamoring to bid on the Alexandra, which was built in 1875. Hall said the Scientologists several times tried to “swap” the Alexandra for another building, but failed.
City officials cheered the news, saying refurbishment of the building is long overdue. For years, nearby residents and business owners had complained to City Hall that the church was sitting on the property, saying the boarded-up Alexandra was a drag on the neighborhood.
The Church of Scientology is still raising money to renovate the Hotel Alexandra in the South End, at an estimated cost of $17 million.
“This is a building that has a lot of history, and it’s a really important gateway between the South End and Lower Roxbury,” Boston Redevelopment Authority spokesman Nick Martin said. “We would love to see it activated.”
Martin said the city would be open to a variety of uses for the structure.
“Given how long the property has sat vacant or underutilized, we don’t want to be terribly proscriptive about it,” Martin said. At this point, he added, “anything would be better than nothing.”
The Boston branch of the Church of Scientology bought the Alexandra — along with the adjoining “Ivory Bean” row house, since demolished —for $4.5 million in 2008, promising to return the crumbling eyesore to its former glory after decades of neglect.
The church had hoped to fund the renovation with proceeds from the sale of its former headquarters on Beacon Street in the Back Bay. But the sale of that building took longer than expected and yielded $10.5 million in 2013 — far short of what the church needed to renovate the Alexandra. Scientology requires its regional chapters to be financially self-sufficient and forbids them from borrowing money.
The Boston branch is currently leasing temporary space in Quincy Center. Marc LaCasse, the church’s real estate attorney, expects it to reach out to some of the more than 50 developers who have expressed interest in the Alexandra. Hall added that the church has already received “much higher” offers on the building than the $5.5 million to $6 million estimate a developer gave to the Globe in July.

Hi Mike and blog readers. I have recently finished “Blown For Good” and I was wondering if there are other Scientology books you would like to recommend? Thank you in advance and todays blog was a good read as per.

Hi Christian,Good to meet you. I am working on a great collection of books regarding cos.A really good one I found is “A Piece of Blue Sky by Jon Atack.Going Clear and the Prison of Belief Lawrence Wright Jenna Miscavige Hill’s book and newest Troublemaker Leah Remini.I have more but to start these are all excellent Marc Headley’s book was a could not put down! Always,Ann.

Thank you 🙂 Headley’s book I could not put down either. I will look those books up, thank you very much. Leah’s sounds like a must-read according to the reviews so that’ll be on the wish list as well.
Maybe the book I’m looking most forward to is Miscavige Sr’s.
Ann B Watson says
Hi Christian, I’m with you on Ron Senior’s book too. That and I am counting down each day and sending light each night to Jesse Prince’s book.David Miscavige was after my time,so what I gather of him I have found out here.I tell you I am probably the only one on this blog who had no idea David’s Dad was named Ron.So I totally mixed him with L Ron Jr who I was familiar with but did not know he had passed in 91,I think.Sea Org times so long ago now,and that is a win.Love,Ann.

Sadly there are no english subtitles but there was a 3 episode Danish documentary on Scientology featuring Robert Dam (who apparently was a leading scientologist in Denmark) Do you know of him? It was very interesting/scary to see what he had to put up with after he got in bad standing.
Can only imagine Scientology struggles in Denmark as well but I don’t know for sure.

I love Boston.
Honestly, my one day there I was on a bicycle, rode the Historical Mile. Somehow, it was raining lightly and I made there, bought a book in a lovely bookstore,
the Bhagavad-Gita As It Is,
and made it all the way back to the ship (five miles each way)
-between the raindrops. I swear, I was completely and inexpicably dry. Magical, I was so inspired that day… And the guy sold me the book, used, for just five dollars. At the time, I was still a runaway, a rogue scn-gist in secret, looking for answers.
If only I had 20 million to buy that hotel. I should be a millionaire. I would do it up. Imagine a fine, expansive lobby complete with piano bar and lush surroundings. I would greet my guests and tell ghost stories…
“Yes this was once the headquarters of a fanatical religion or something, yes, but they all are long gone now, the church is quite dead like a forgotten language.”
I have that book with me here now. I can open it up and always find words unexpectedly comforting. Let me just share an example, (keeping in mind that this text is like 5,000 years old) and you can pretend you are sitting with me in the lobby, sipping your favorite martini or something:
That which pervades the entire body is indestructible. No one is able to destroy the imperishable soul…

Beautiful post. Thank you. I’m a big fan of the Bhagavad Gita , Boston, martinis and haunted hotels.

Clearly, that building had no case gain while being in the custody of the Church. These are tough and trying times as the Sea Org doesn’t have the RPF force to turn broken buildings into cash prime real estate parcels while being dangerous DBs.

1st I have a question please. I seen to remember Miscavige (or COS) has said that they have to have all the orgs ideal before OT 9 & 10. So what if these “failures” are on purpose? Get more money in donations and required courses. They can say the average Scientologist is to blame for the delay in the release for not having made their org. Ideal. I am sure that I have not worded this properly but I hope my question and reasoning for it sense.
Also, have you looked up the Quincy location on street view? The peeling paint and Joke Shop (actual name) next door are perfect.
Wayne Borean aka The Mad Hatter says
Jake’s Joke Shop was a Boston landmark. Charlotte MacCleod mentions it many times in her Sarah Kelling murder mysteries. Much to my surprise on my one visit to Boston, I found out it was a real store!
It went under in 2008, apparently due to the economic downturn. I guess Ron’s Joke Shop stepped in to fill the void.
I love joke shops. They are great fun, as are the results. Itching Powder is EVIL!

I got so wrapped up in that building I actually forgot the significance of the fact:
The scn-gists are MOVING OUT! Defeated.

That is good news, very, for the entire community. Good call, Ref. And thanks for taking care of Boston for us. Hell, thanks for taking Boston BACK! for crying out loud.

There’s a real estate boom in the neighborhood. The COS might make a ton of money on the sale.
Jose Chung says
Correction: David Miscavige will make a ton of money
because personally owns all Scientology real estate.
Never in says
I believe this is entirely possible. Would I have said that even a few years ago? No. This building has been decaying for years it is a danger to the neighborhood and a major eyesore. At this point the city has said they will relax restrictions. Which are normally very strict. Personally I think that the plan all alone was to hold it letting it rot until the city caved and said “anything is better than nothing”. Without those restrictions the value of this property just soared.
JustLook! says
I seen it: the Boston org boomed around 1974-76 and there was a ton of people there. Young vibrant people mingling with the wealthy and the fringe and the hopeful. It was a sizzling place to be.
They had a Kenmore Square/Fenway location which was in the middle of the BU campus and very close to the Berklee Music school. Tons of foot traffic. They moved to the Beacon St. location which didn’t have much foot traffic and was a nightmare to park at. It was pretty on the outside and in a lovely neighborhood but like any building being used by zillions of people you need to maintain and the FP never really kept it up. Leaking roof, broken windows, old heating system, no AC, broken elevator, floors falling apart, bathrooms screwed up.
How did it get so small?
1. Cost of an intensive went from $600 to $5000.
2. SO recruiting ripped off the top crust pc’s and staff over and over.
3. Wasn’t fun no more. More ethics, more pressure. Militaristic. The hot shots got shot. Smelled of desparation. New successful public stayed away. The neat new thing got old and boring and a bit scary.
4. By the early 80’s, participation became, “live or die in the attempt” with mandatory attendence at events?
The FAILURE of the COS Boston is HUGE. Perhaps 10 or 20 thousand people bought services but only a few hundred are left. Think of that! And for you believers out there…the tech and admin people were better trained and the place just kept shrinking and shrinking. LRon can be counted on to piss off just about everyone and make certain they don’t ever want to come back. .

“Wasn’t fun no more.” Yep. That all disappeared.

That story about my mom? She taught me something about myself. Something primeordial was in me, that what i thought was true was true and nobody needs to agree with me, true still is true. I was independent somehow, inexplicably so, even at five years old. Thanks, mom, is my only target for that credit. And Dad, the eccentric. Maybe even more credit goes to him.
Truth is that inside the commune i had some real complaints. As a Life Repair Completion going in, i still had not taken my first, official, step on The Bridge, top complaint. But, wherewithall gave me a gift when in auditing something i dreamed up in session was taken as a past-life recollection, as solid reality, and i balked. An in-auditing battle ensued and i soon realized that my opponent was the Div 5 Secretary herself.

You guys that were in, for any length of time, at any time after I got out had things much, much worse because Hubbard only got better at reinforcing his trap, more brutal and threatening from what I gather, as time went on. Then he died and the story goes black to blacker. You are the hard core dudes. We are the survivors. Of course our minds are with the boys and girls left behind and all the breathing souls being swallowed up today from the ravages of wilderness known as civilzation, that might wander too close to the entrance…
My new hero is you, Mike and so many like me here speaking what they know. But Leah…
a moment to ponder Leah. She plays her chips well, yes?
This is what sticking to your convictions can actually do, when you know the rules and how to play nicely…
Buber Zionist (@buberzionist) says
I visited the old Boston Org on Commonwealth Avenue near Kenmore Square a few blocks from Boston University in 1975. It was in an ideal area to target young people, as there were lots of students (including me) from various colleges in the area. There’d be Scientology body routers out on the street, and sometimes one could see Scientology “ministers” wearing clerical collars. I thought “they aren’t real ministers” and considered the body routers to be “scientology weirdos” and nuisances one step above panhandlers.
But curiosity got the better of me so, using a fake name and phone number, I went in. They gave me quick session on the cans, reading me a list of countries to see where I’d lived before in previous lives. When they said “Israel” I figured that would register since I am Jewish and had visited Israel several times. But instead they told me that I’d lived before in Uganda.
I then went into an office, had a chat with a lovely young woman and eventually called it a day. I don’t recall any hardsell from them.
Scientology must have been insane to have sold their Kenmore Square location for someplace near Roxbury. Their target audience of college-age people isn’t in Roxbury. In 1975 Roxbury was a mostly black working class area. White people (ie, the average potential Scientology recruit) who didn’t live there often preferred not to go there, especially after dark. It’s revitalized somewhat but it still is not as appealing an area as Commonwealth Avenue near Boston University.
This tale of idiocy shows not only that Scientology is flailing about as a religion but also as a real estate holding company.

Mike, I have a question re the corporate structure and Miscavige: would it ever be possible that Miscavige could be removed internally, i.e. by someone else or a group of Execs like the Watch Dog Committee (I know they don’t exist) taking over the running of the show. Or has he wrapped up the corporate structure and legal documents with his lawyers so well that he cannot be written out of it or removed? Not that the sheep remaining in the fold would ever dream or have the gumption to do so, but I just wondered if it was still or ever was possible? So my question is not really “will there be a revolution?” but more “is it possible that a revolution could occur?” within the current corporate setup. What would actually have to occur to remove Miscavige?
Mike Rinder says
Look at the Tampa Bay Times article about Jim Jackson, it contains the best explanation of what could theoretically be done. But it’s not going to happen.
StudentOfLife says
Mike, given you more than anyone have been most correct in anticipating LieInTology’s next moves, here is a post from me today at Bunker and I’m curious to see your POV. I think the lawyer cabal set up to benefit at some point has to play the Jackson card. Getting Congress to move on anything important or relevant these days is nearly impossible, I have watched the Salton Sea nearly dry up here in California while the so called environmentalist party has blocked every funding, I think just because the other party really wants to do something before the Imperial Valley is turned into a toxic wasteland. But I think rather than call for their tax exempt status be revoked, a better possibility might be for a Congressional order to ask for the books be open to show that inurement is not an issue. The IRS or a Congressman can offer the psychopath Miscavige one or the other: a hearing to look at tax exempt status or they may settle the issue once and for all with open books. Congress should require all tax exempt organizations to file full reports. That would drive a lot of them out of business. We might be barking up the wrong tree if just total transparency solves the issue. See below.
http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sel… Look who’s #1 as of today. Category 5 Hurricane Leah continues her assault on LieIntology with a media march that rival’s General Sherman’s march to Atlanta. 2016 Postulates: Forecasts are for a Category 5X this coming spring with Hurricane Ron appearing on the scene forcing the shrinking group of Scilon whales (including the attorneys who by then will have the most to lose if Miscavige stays in power as the cult shrinks dramatically) to listen to Jim Jackson and remove the embarrassing laughing stock of the internet who is the only acknowledged face of LieIntology: Captain Four Foot Thirteen psychopathic David Miscavige.
2016 will see Hurricane Laura gather steam but the real damage will be the Category 47X Hurricane Marty/Monique (the first dual named) as it scatters the remains of the then few remaining Scilons to the winds as public outcry forces Congress to address the Scilon’s tax exempt status. The impending likely result: if nothing else, a hearing that tax exempt organizations should be forced to open their books in full and account for all monies spent to show the public benefit should be required. You can argue government should not screw with people’s faiths but there is no reason for those faiths to not be required to show full financial transparency to determine that they are serving the “public good” as claimed. Even Obamacare required private companies to show no more than a certain percentage could be used for administrative costs in order to keep premiums down. David MissSavage, another “good” idea (by you of course) to circle those Narconon wagons so they can join the rest of your ideal orgs and shrinking membership as it circles the drain. Just makes it easier for Hurricane Ryan to find you. Tick Tock, your removal from hiding is on the clock!
Wayne Borean aka The Mad Hatter says
But it is a tenant of our religion not to provide information openly, and another tenant of our religion not to pay money to the Evil IRS! The Hobby Lobby court case says we have a religious right not to do this!
At least that’s what I imagine they’ll claim.
mark marco says
I remember Jim Jackson, if he is the former tax accountant for LRH.
If anyone could get, or would be able to get the tax status revoked it would be him, but he says it cant be done, not the way the IRS is set up, he says.
An internal overthrow of Miscavige could happen, as it is written into the corporate constitution required by law (part of what was agreed to get the exemption)
-but John Locke says, again, that hell will freeze over first, the way Scientology is actually set up, so… hey, where is that rat bastard? I mean, I miss him.
Did I say something. Me thinks I missed something.
He was pretty rough around the edges (mean and arrogant? no…) but I wrote some of my best stuff after his provocations. I hope you are on some kind of wonderful vacation John, and don’t miss the funeral.
StudentOfLife says
I f anyone missed it, go read the recent Bunker article on Jim Jackson, who is now an SP as far as Miscavige is concerned. I couldn’t find it but Jackson is probably the one guy besides Marty Rathbun that could take Miscavige down though Hurricane Jesse could be anywhere from Category 5 to 5X to 47X regarding Miscavige personally when his book comes out. I still think the best strategy is to simply ask, then give LieIntology and ultimatum to open it’s books or take it’s chances at an open Congressional hearing. The FBI and Homeland Security both nearly conducted raids. They have a lot of data and now everyone out of the criminal syndicate headed by Miscavige knows that DLHDM has balls the size of mustard seeds. The eyes of the media and the internet are watching every move the Punching Pontiff makes. All it takes is a Congressional hearing inviting those with knowledge to come forward to supplement what we suspect. No lawyer for the Scilons can come up with a rebuttal justification that will make the public fear that the Constitution is being trampled on. It’s time for Scientology to prove to the world once and for all that it more than any ‘religion’ is deserving of it’s tax exempt status and shut up the evil psychs and big pharma once and for all.
Invitation from a Congressperson: Open the books or have a hearing. If you are as good and honest as you say you are, this will make your “religion” become the true force for human rights and the advancement of spiritual freedom you claim it is. We are here to quiet all those SPs and psychs by showing once and for all how much public benefit you do that is not known. Show us what we do not know and your actions will be the example of how truth withstands any attack.
Jose Chung says

Bravebloggers says
“Perhaps Miscavige can explain why Malmo and Bogota and Padova and Pretoria and Melbourne and Cambridge (etc etc etc) are more important than…”
The above statement struck me in a slightly OT way that I believe has been touched on before. Particularly, with all that has been posted here of late, and at the Bunker re: the IO strategy and, by many accounts, the lack luster results the IO project seems to be producing…or not producing.
I’m no where near as educated on these matters as Mr. Rinder or other persons who have direct knowledge via being in the church, but it seems that outside the U.S., is where the majority of IOs are opening (for the most recent history).
I’m guessing a part of the reason may be the huge train wreck exposure and bad press in the U.S., but it’s not a PR picnic in Australia, England and Europe by any stretch of the imagination either. So what gives?
Why focus and expend so much energy, assets, etc., over seas when I believe the home base of operations is fairly U.S., based? Are the wells drying too quickly in the U.S., and that is why the push seems currently focused on outside the continental U.S., instead of focusing/completing inward 1st, and then expanding outward like many organizations would do if they had the population or customer base (with home court advantage- which is probably another issue…lack of home court #s and the corresponding advantages.). Solidify your U.S., power base then expand from there? Is part of this the absolute lack of numbers in the continental U.S., which forces expansion in the only places it is currently feasible?
Additionally, it’s outside the convenient visual range of the area that has the highest CoS population density, the U.S., I believe. Is it eaaier to believe what is told to you, or what is provided for you to read by CoS, as fact when you’re not going to Italy, Russia, South Africa etc., and also easier to solicit funds or donations for global expansion/clearing from U.S., based CoS public persons who likely won’t be there to see or quietly question if the $ they donated for (insert item/project here) was also solicited and donated by other person(s) as well — or not being used how it was supposed to be utilized?
(I’m throwing around a lot of questions. I’m seeking honest opinions of those with more info than I have, and have the ability to make plausible guesses on if I may be in the ballpark or if my understanding of this topic is indeed increasing. I know I could be completely wrong, but here I go guessing/looking for additional clarification by those who know more than I do. My appreciation in advance if you take the time to read and/or provide your 2 cents to this novella post.)
From the hip, it seems from this complete outsiders perspective, that ‘perhaps’ emphasis is being placed on areas (not singular to those outside U.S. locations listed above, but also other IOs on tap or opened) where there may be less negative mainstream attention in comparison to U.S. coverage, less access to the Internet, more location specific issues that appear to outweigh CoS, less questionable past events or incidents that may have occurred in the new IOs locale, and perhaps more people who are in a situation,or have more limitations on opportunities which may open doors to the possibilities of what the SO can allegedly offer. This may be music to the ears of personnel who are seeking something better and in a much more rapid fashion. A way to leave where they are, have a better life while working towards something they believe in, having housing provided,3 squares a day, a paycheck and the promise of a cost free bridge among other potential carrots like Visas, travel and job training. This could be very alluring to those who wouldn’t otherwise have the whole kit and caboodle laid at their feet with the “results” likely viewed as immediately delivered. Even more alluring if it is a tenant of your core belief system.
What I don’t get is — are there enough whales and paying public (who won’t join the SO) to keep the org sustainable? Maybe they are also hoping for the “artists” in those areas in order to aid in expansion while helping with the coffers and initiating a positive image? (Heck, Australia alone is churning out big time and up and coming actors by the bucket load. Quite a bit of talent down under.)
Or is this just another way to “show” global expansion, diversify real estate holdings while trying to land more raw meat as well as have a higher chance of landing SO and staff members in an “untapped market as they would say in retail” as people living at, below, or slightly above the poverty line would likely be easy SO targets in places like Bogota (though the poverty line isn’t an area I assume leadership is looking towards as the goal for functioning parishioners in the CoS big picture). It also seems risky with other laws/governments unless that is largely sorted out before hand.
I don’t know, perhaps someone here could educate me on if my guesses have any merit to them in part or not at all? There just seems to be so many what-ifs, could bes and the like. It really boggles the noodle when you lay out even a portion of what may (or may not) be the rationale behind the actions. As actions speak louder than words, as the old saying goes, I’m left wondering- what is the impetus? Thanks.
Wayne Borean aka The Mad Hatter says

Oops, another flap on the 47X list of flaps for the so called religious leader. Damn, another failure… and more to come.
TruthTeller says
Mike, how can you say the Ideal Org strategy is a failure?
The asthmatic dwarf’s entire strategy since seizing power in early 80’s was to destroy major delivery of Scientology to the mass public.
In my book he has succeeded in this suppressive mission.
He booted out every major Tech terminal who would discover his witholds.
Removed or transferred Admin terminals who would oppose him.
Destroyed the GO and replaced it with a even more devious group the OSA.
He wrecked the entire mision network almost overnight.
Cancelled all life memberships at a stroke and manufactured the IAS.
What a group of more wicked people I could not imagine other than one with similiar initials
He has altered technology at every level, impeded case progress and altered the OT levels to a point that they are ineffective.
I won’t go on about the specifics other than the FSO altering the Laws of Listing and Nulling (really screws a case up) doesn’t allow “ITSA” as its defined in HCOB’s etc etc.
The dwarf has no idea about a floating needle and what it is so he pushes this off on Auditors.
The sad thing is this all started in 1980 and today is the result of 35 years of suppression.
You made much in the last article about how the COS conducts itself when under attack.
Well LRH was correct when he advised don’t defend, attack, and do it loudly.
That is standard policy, and it does work.
But the COS today is not delivering Scientology, so its attacks are meaningless actually.
So do remember that Scientology stopped being what it should be within a year of the dwarf taking it over.
Most of the people in it have known nothing else but what is served up today as Tech.
Old Timers like myself were ousted as we would oppose such lunacy
I do not know precisely what the “size” of Old St Hill was.
I assume LRH meant number of Staff and WDAH per week not the physical building size.
The St Hill building in England is quite large and as you point out quite correctly having a big building is of no use if no one is in it getting services!
I have no inkling what the COS is serving up as OTIX and OTX as they have already had three versions of OTVIII.
I understand that people who have had no gains for whatever reason rant and rave about how the Tech is faulty (no specifics ever mentioned of course just yip yap) and LRH was ******* etc etc.
I feel sorry for them as from what I can gather most “discovered” Scientology post dwarf regime.
Few probably ever got any Scientology, I wonder how many who whale and rant are actually capable of running R3RA?
Not many I think.
This is sad, no Book one demonstrations to new public, just IAS regges chasing whales for $$$$$’s.
But the “Thursday funnies” (a weekly highlight) show what todays version of Scientology is and this is normal for those that have been in it for the last 10 to 20 years.
So not wishing to rant myself, do consider that what they call Scientology today is nothing to do with LRH, or what he researched and delivered to us.
regards

I don’t mean to reprove — I’m genuinely baffled.
BlindersOff says
That’s because Scientology itself is baffling. Standard tech is whatever David Miscavige says it is. It will go the way of Standard Oil.
TruthTeller says
Is when you have misunderstoods.
clearlypissedoff says
Agreed. Any person or organization that destroys families through its disconnection policy and uses “fair game” on its enemies should make any sane person not walk but run away and one should definitely discard their “technology”.
TruthTeller says
when “baffled” clear the misunderstood word

If you try to make me do that, or use any of the so-called “Tech”, I’ll make you the first ever recipient of a rectal dictionary module.
BlindersOff says
An indeed ass-tronomical price to pay.
Robert Almblad says
TruthTeller you make some very good points.
I can and have run R3R with great success and had many wins in 40 years while “in” up to New OT V in 2005.
But, since being out and getting access to all the dirty laundry, I feel “used”, “misled”, “lied to” and “enslaved” all so LRH could get more power and money. This, in particular, was not Miscavge’s doing.
Miscavige screwed up Scientology the past 30 years so no one could possibly fix what was wrong with it. The Church is dead. But there is/was something wrong with it before that because LRH died relatively young and by multiple reports, in ill health, suicidal, suffering from dementia and on psychiatric drugs. Many OTs are sharing the same fate today at the end of their lives. I am not upset that LRH died that way, but I am upset that the MO of the Church of Scientology and LRH for 65 years has been to feed lies to followers/parishioners. Lies that are meant to enslave me/us, not free me/you. Running R3R frees you. Telling lies, enslaves you.
Like pealing back the many layers of an onion over the past 10 years, I find that Scientology and LRH are revealed as something much different than what I signed up for in 1970.
Miscavige is undoubtedly the “who” that destroyed the workable technology of Scientology that I loved and used, but it was LRH that did not trust the OTs under him with the truth and I am convinced that it was because he wanted to obtain and maintain a master-slave relationship.
Ann B Watson says
Hi Robert Almblad,Your post made the air crackle.I agree with you one trillion percent! Well said and very well done that we both escaped when we did.Love,Ann.
TruthTeller says
Glad to hear this. I assume you may have also had R3RA as it is a little different.
Your point is interesting about the lies the distortions etc.
I seem as usual to have stirred up a nest of hornets. Sorry Mike
I knew one guy in the COS who basically worshipped LRH as some sort of God.
He went up to OT III (in a very short time of course) and got into difficulties and ended up leaving the COS. He came, found it bad, left.
The point is he discovered that some of the claims in Church promo about LRH’s war record, his past history were no where near accurate. He then went on a crusade of research until he got so upset he became a born again Christian.
I met him years later and he had gone so far downtone I had to have him introduce himself as I did not recognise him. He looked ill was totally bald and intoverted.
I always pride my self on my memory (after ARC Straightwire of course) so was suprised. He told me he now has a plaque in his home on the wall stating “Dont worry God’s in charge”.
I of course acknowledged him and informed him that I was pleased he no longer took responsibility for his life or any others and wished him God speed in his new quest to become good enough to go to heaven when his body dies
Well thats up to him, but if I had a choice between studying Scientology philosophy and applying it and see it actually working or that bloody plaque I know which one I choose.
Scientology is not for everyone, and I think if they cannot get through DMSMH and go audit someone and actually see it works then best to go off and do something else.
After all there are so many interesting and wonderful philosophies out there and one does have all of eternity to play with them.
Yeh right!
Ms. B. Haven says
TruthTeller,
I’m one of those ‘unfortunates’ who fits your description:
“I understand that people who have had no gains for whatever reason rant and rave about how the Tech is faulty (no specifics ever mentioned of course just yip yap) and LRH was ******* etc etc.
I feel sorry for them as from what I can gather most “discovered” Scientology post dwarf regime.
Few probably ever got any Scientology, I wonder how many who whale and rant are actually capable of running R3RA?”
I have had many intensives of NED after doing the Grades, etc. This was in the pre-dwarf era. I was never able to find an engram let alone ‘run’ it. I was never able to be ‘repaired’ or ‘rehabilitated’ no matter the training level of auditor who tried. It wasn’t for lack of trying. I WANTED to be ‘clear’. I WANTED to be ‘OT’. Who wouldn’t? It would be easy to write me off as PTS/SP, no-case-gain, dog pc, but the fact is I was a true-believer and wanted the abilities that were supposedly to be gained by achieving these levels of awareness. I finally came to realize that NO ONE has achieved the abilities a ‘clear’ or ‘OT’ is supposed to have, in or out of scientology. I will ad here that I have met the Dali Lama in a private audience, and while I readily acknowledge he is a great man, he doesn’t manifest the abilities of a ‘clear’ or ‘OT’. Besides, he has a quality that no true-believing scientologist has or would want to have. Humility. Maybe someone else has seen these abilities manifested in themselves or others, but I surely haven’t and I don’t know anyone who has.
So, there are the specifics for you, and yes, I will continue to rant and rave as long as I think it saves just one person the pain and anguish that being involved with scientology entails. The fact is, scientology is nothing more than a money making scam. Period. That’s all it ever has been and all it ever will be. You mentioned in your post that all this ‘suppression’ started in 1980. If I recall correctly Hubbard died in 1986, and decades before that he was howling about ‘suppressives’ keeping him from doing his job. See Ortega’s post from yesterday for a prime example from the ‘founder’ hisself. Miscarriage was probably still in his nappies back then. http://tonyortega.org/2015/11/09/scientology-on-the-high-seas-when-l-ron-hubbard-was-still-making-tech-breakthroughs/
How would I explain the ‘gains’ some people (including myself) have gotten from scientology. It’s called a placebo. For a certain percentage of the population, just about anything can provide temporary relief from whatever it is that’s bothering you. There are no lasting abilities that are gotten from anything in scientology.
Ann B Watson says
Hi Ms. B Haven, Thank you for another outstanding post.Really resonated.Like you I wanted so badly to get to Clear and OT in the beginning. Many early am’s I cried myself to sleep because all during my Dianetics auditing I could only see blackness after close your eyes etc and then the e-meter and all the hgc auditing room lights would go out.No-one had an answer and of course at that time I did not see the constant sec-checking that replaced my auditing. But finally I had a beautiful C/S and auditor who asked me to acknowledge why I felt I could see only blackness with Dianetics and I just knew the answer was because there was nothing there to see! That was the key and off I went thru XDN and was just about to start Power when the rug was yanked out from under me.I know how much I believed in Clear & OT but now I am so happy I did not get to those heights. The view would have been quite underwhelming not to mention those pesky rotten BTs! Worse than scabies at the Hollywood Inn and that is saying something! Love always,Ann.

A characteristic and one of the sad things about the anti-social personality, is that it does not respond to treatment or reform or pschotherapy
freebeeing says
Dear Mr TruthTeller, You do realize that “one of the sad things about the anti-social personality, is that it does not respond to treatment or reform or pschotherapy” Is not truth?
It is complete crap. And for you to use it to “reply” to what seemed like a very sincere believer at the time of her auditing is really a bit rude. I assume you don’t know the person or do you? There couldn’t have been any other reason why she had trouble? No? You’re certain of this? Gotta be that she’s one of those damn NCG SPs?
I suppose you’d like to argue about the truth of you statement — which is just a regurgitation of someone else’s “truth” (ain’t that so Mr Truth)? Would you? Would you like to read what your favorite source of truth said about Power processing? Or perhaps you may already be familiar with its claimed efficacy in “treating” an SP? If so then you already know that the 1st statement is false.
I had fantastic wins from my auditing. I also spent 30+ years chasing a promised goal that Scn cannot help me attain. In my opinion there’s good stuff in the levels below OT. So I’m no tech-hater.
Oh and for the lady who said no one has ever done “OT” things. I suggest you read the book “Autobiography of a Yogi” by Yogananda.
Foolproof says
Actually the changes in organizational matters started late 1981 and the technical changes he has foisted off on the group came much later, starting I think around the late 1980s, when he had finally subdued all who would oppose him technically. However, apart from his misunderstanding on F/Ns (being kind) as far as the OT Levels themselves nothing much has been changed there AFAIK. A lot of other technical stuff has been altered but the OT Levels (I-VII) are more or less still ok, again AFAIK. OTVIII however, as discussed here before, is a crock.
Foolproof says
No sorry OTI (one) was changed to a sort of extensive life repair where they cull one’s folders for terminals and fly ruds on them, not that there is much wrong with doing that but it replaced the last one that LRH advised to do, and cannot be considered an “OT Level”, by its nature. It could be considered a setup program but not an OT Level.
I Yawnalot says
You make many good points Truthteller and yes many confuse what miscavige does as scientology.
My personal take on it all has swung back and forth as I studied the behaviour of the church and read the reports. As I see it now I trust nothing after 1977, no matter how convincing management says it’s standard. Hubbard’s last lectures were in 1975 but those were a Flag only set. He ceased lecturing in 1972 basically and then went “weird” in comparison to his his earlier behaviour. A question remains with me of why did miscavige et al go to such extraordinary lengths to alter the tech if so many experts out here say it’s all crap or it’s all scientology anyway?
But what I have been given and delivered concerning some lower Bridge technology in my early days produced startlingly good results and agree that what has been delivered in the church since the late eighties is not scientology or anything resembling the results available with the original tech. The “New OT Levels” are an invention or have come off the back of cereal box in my opinion and getting to OT7 was the greatest waste of time and money in my entire life.
Many over the years have accused me of being a LRH lover but I disagree in that I only agree with something if I see it work in front of my face. Talk is so cheap and google experts abound in spreading other people’s opinions or used as a incentive to make up some new angle or aligns with something personal.
However, the amount of heartache and misery connected with the scientology label is so overwhelming there will never be an easy answer acceptable by everyone, even if it is the truth.
I Yawnalot says
Also, there is no doubt in my mind that the most powerful prize and the corresponding era in scientology was the gaining control of Hubbard’s comm lines. That is the most lied about, confuting and criminal ridden history of the church. With miscavige as a show piece and his camouflaged cohorts sitting on top of the pile.
The crimes of that era are worthy of investigation up to any including homicide.
Crom Lives says
Yawn: Hubbard went weird after 1972? You’ve read about Pasadena . . . and his Navy career . . . and wives . . . right?
I Yawnalot says
No worse than my father really or my ex commanding officer or maybe his staff sergeant – I knew them pretty well. Sure Hubbard had a past – don’t you?
How many people in your life are the top ethical example of what stands for your opinion of a classic human being?
Seems to me my experience as an auditor tells me something about life that we don’t look at very much… individual behaviour over time. I’ve never met the perfect example of an ethical person, once their whole life is examined.
I sure as hell know if you splattered my past miss-deeds across the social circle I inhabit I would feel compelled to cease your ability to breathe.
I don’t hold myself above others really. I do look at what advice I take and see if it works for me, that’s all.
I Yawnalot says
I’m not defending Hubbard, I’m just sick of blaming him. Scientology is on the ropes, miscavige is calling the shots and he needs to be handled – NOW!
Old Surfer Dude says
Wait…we can’t do it tomorrow?
mark marco says
oh, well, I blame him.
Entirely.
Kinda feels to me that if you are not blaming him then you are defending him, and his creed that says it is YOUR fault.
And the church is going down, regardless of the puppet leader, and whoever is next. May as well as leave DM in the throne, he is so monumentally incompetent that it looks like the rate of decline is only accellerated as long as he’s up there, so what?
RogerHornaday says
I Yawnalot, your argument is essentially, “nobody is perfect”. Fair enough. But few people I’ve ever known have been as shoddy as Ron Hubbard. Why would somebody consider such a shoddy person to be in possession of knowledge and methodologies that lead to superior humans? He wasn’t transformed by his own discoveries. His writings are largely gibberish, often demonstrably false and peppered with troubling advice. I don’t get the insistence people have on continuing to elevate the man. It was a dream. The dream is over and we are utilizing our intellectual and moral faculties at last.
TruthTeller says
I Yawnalot,
Thank you for a pleasent reply. I don’t think I can understand your remark about LRH going “weird” unless you had actual daily contact with him and observed that.
So many liers over the years have made claims about this and that to do with LRH and simply ply “the hidden data line”
I do not think the older bridge that went up to OTIII and then OVII processes and then the orginal OTIV and then V to Vii were a waste of time at all.
I do remember that even in 1980 there were status types. One even remarked to me she felt invalidated that she had attested to OTVII and that NED for OT’s was the NEW OTV so she was downgraded in her universe.
Being the hard assed bastard I am I told her to stop giving me lower out-grade phenomena and go and make a statement to the examiner. Stupid woman.
She wasa rather glib person so may have been a false attest in the first place.
I like your comment about “talk is cheap”, when I was studying Aikido a while back there was always some idoit coming up with crap about show me “Ki energy” and demanding a demonstration. Or someone coming to the Dojo with a challenge of some sort.
Of course when our Instructor (sensei) dispatched some Ki energy onto the persons body (at their own request) and they prompty hit the floor with a thud, they usually complained loudly.
I myself asked for a demonstration and got one. I have never doubted the state of OT since.
I have to disagree that anything after 1972 was not LRH and I think you are doing yourself a disservice not to go and get a rehab-session and proceed onto Audited NOTS if you have not already done so. There are very few peoples around who know how to audit this level correctly so choose carefully.
all the best

So they are _still_ hitting people up for money, but now not for an ideal org but to prep the place for sale? That’s got to be good for morale!
That would be like someone saying, “hey, could you contribute to my home repairs so I can get a better sales price?” Oh, yeah. People would jump all over that opportunity. Unbelievable.

True, Ms.P but a few orgs to date have been purchased and renovated with IAS money and I wondered if Boston happened to be one of them. I’m guessing probably not.

Even with slave labor they can’t make it.
Internally they can still rip-off “still ins” but on the outer fringes the Organization their bait and switch and $ rip-off tactics are getting more and more known by the general public. So, they stay away.
I am sure Miscavige could easily rebuild this building, but even he knows that the whole idea of having “good looking” buildings to make the very nasty money grubbing people inside the building look “good/inviting” is a total bust.
McCarran says
I actually find it amazing that david miscavige’s playbook is to just look at what’s left over; make up a different clay demo using the remaining parts and ask the Still-Ins for a “Pass.”

Well the cult is well into making it’s own bed and has been for years now, they will be made to lie in it forever! Glad X 1 trillion I am out and free to make my own path.My life history all started and is wrapped up in the fabric of Boston literally. My late Dad was given a send off of his ashes from the deck of the USS Constitution and he did not do Navy during WWII he was in the signal corps doing radar stuff,so it was a tribute to him to be able to have that. What thecos has done to Boston is just pathetic. One of the reasons years ago hubby and I chose a place where we knew no-one and as different from the East and West coasts as we could get! I needed to open the windows and let the sweet southern winds in! Always,Ann.

“But spokesman Kevin Hall said the church decided to put the property up for sale while the real estate market is still strong ‘We just want to get it done,’ Hall said. ‘We had hoped to fix it up faster. . . . Hopefully, [the buyer] will be a professional developer who has experience dealing with the city.'”
This statement is a tasty treat. Let’s dig in.
First bite: Sell while market is strong. This is a mumbly excuse as to why they are doing it now. The only reason it’s being sold now is that Dave tumbled out of bed one day recently and screamed “sell!” If the church had any real estate savvy whatsoever, they never would have been in this position, so let’s drop the pretense that they’ve sussed out ideal market conditions.
Second bite: We just want to get it done. This is a case of meaningless Scilon gibberish slipping into a public statement. No one not quivering under the capricious regime of Miscavige thinks “get it done” is anything other than a distraction from reality — the failure to get anything meaningful done. They bought the building many years ago, at great expense. Getting something done, in reality, would mean moving in and using the building.
Third bite: We had hoped to fix it up faster. Are you kidding? How about fix it up at all? The impression Scientology leaves behind in this debacle is that they hope to do things they can never do, like renovate a historic building. What else can’t Scientology do? Make the able more able? Get people off drugs? Eliminate psychiatry? Make the world sane? Improve your communication skills? Promises of success. Demonstrations of failure.
Fourth bite: … professional developer who has experience dealing with the city. Now, the whining excuse. You failed because the city is too tough to deal with. I’ve got breaking news for you, it’s not always so easy to get DOB approval for building/renovation projects, especially for landmark properties. But it’s done every day, all over America. And owners who are not professional developers themselves hire professional developers, and expediters, and owner’s reps and other experienced organizations to ensure that their investment ultimately delivers the intended returns. Scientology thinks it has all the answers. But in reality, it’s a massive Dunning-Kruger* case. It’s not the city’s fault that they couldn’t renovate. It’s SMERSH.

“Scientology requires its regional chapters to be financially self-sufficient and forbids them from borrowing money”.
It should read….David Miscavige requires the parishioners to give money for buildings and their renovations, then Miscavige owns the buildings, then requires the org in the building to pay all the expenses of the building so as to keep it up and ready to sell at his whim. He then keeps all of the money from the sale for himself and has absolutely no exchange with the parishioners who gave him the money in the first place. Oh wait I forgot the parishioners got a status cert and the right to strut around like a banty rooster while Miscavige walks away with millions in the name of self determinism and eternity for all.
Aquamarine says
I’ve always appreciated how the Church of Scientology is per policy “forbidden” to borrow money and yet its “parishioners” are encouraged to go deeply into debt, and even applauded when they declare bankruptcy due to their going out-ethics on finance in order to support their church.

I believe Tom Cruise was the “brain child” behind the Idle Morgue flap….Slappy Miscavige consulted with the “big bean” when their “BROMANCE” started (when Tom Cruise was getting the dog and pony show) and TC told DM people would come in if the buildings were nice. Hence the “must have big buildings” began…. Poor Tom Cruise – he will never leave now. The egg on his face would kill him. There is NO WAY Tom Cruise will ever LOOK at the truth.
Both David Miscavige and Tom Cruise have sunk with their failed cult / church / faux religion / billion dollar industry. Now we just wait for them to run out of people….no amount of money can help them with dedicated members.

Back in the late 80’s, Hamburg and Orange County were also declared St. Hill size after a genuine ‘stat push’ got them there. They even had the Universe Corp show up to get the entire staff up to ‘OT’. With all that bridge progress and ability gained, look what happened. St. Hill size shrank to St. Molehill and now they are just shell’s of their former selves. I’m lovin’ that kind of “expansion”.
Perhaps Quinn Tauffer could break away from the Valley and Albuquerque Ideal Org campaigns (they are sooooo close to being done) and provide some professional assistance to the good folks in Boston so they too can get their shit together and salvage that sector of the guh-lax-ee…

I told them “you know there’s no statute of limitations on child abuse right?” and I showed them a few things I’d started writing down from memory once I decided I wanted to leave. The Security Chief said “okay you can go”.
And it’s true that there is no statute of limitations on child abuse in California. So what are they going to do about it? Nothing. That’s what they’re going to do about it. Hi Boz!

“Given how long the property has sat vacant or underutilized, we don’t want to be terribly proscriptive about it,” Martin said. At this point, he added, “anything would be better than nothing.”
“Anything would be better than nothing.”
Wow! That sorta wraps up CoS in one sentence.

Free night at Vegas or Reno perhaps. Or the technical answer, “it’s all in the hands of the lawyers.”

You know, some people are not directly connected to reality.

That’s great. The “health benefits of eating a box of chocolates every day.” When I gave up being delusional about scientology, that’s the book I bought next. Makes way more sense. 🙂 I’m working on the health benefits of two glasses of wine a day. You know; if you’re going to be delusional about something, it might as well be fun.
Leslie Bates says
I used to work part time for the Fanny Farmer candy shops and got the employee discount. The health benefits are purely delusional.
Old Surfer Dude says
Hmmmmm…Some people? I’m going to take a shot here: Sci Cult Members?
Leslie Bates says
Essentially anyone with an agenda that is contrary to reality.
Old Surfer Dude says
LMAO! Yep, that’s this cult, Leslie! “…an agenda that is contrary to reality.” You nailed it.

The hits just keep coming! David Miscavige has created his own real estate bubble that is ready to burst.
Old Surfer Dude says
Lori S, imagine all the staff in these orgs realizing that NOBODY NEW is coming in. It was bad back in 2011 when I first approached the Pasadena Org. I hung out for awhile while the public refused their offer of the intro film. However, they really pressed me to purchase “Self Analysis.” The gal said, “It’s the next book!” I replied, “Sorry, I didn’t come in here to buy anything from you folks.” And you know, those people left completely alone! Rude, I say.
When they can’t get money from someone, it REALLY pisses them off…

Boston is an international city. The hundreds of thousands of college students there make it a prime location for recruitment and services. Its absolutely amazing how many failures on so many levels have led to this moment. In fact, its almost a statistical impossibility that scientology’s footprint in such a location has diminished to what it is today. And with the public now aware of the pitfalls of the organization, the game is over.
BlindersOff says
Scientologist: What is your ruin?
Harvard Student: I have none, but your building seems to qualify.
Scientologist: (under his breath) Fucking SP.
Old Surfer Dude says
Right on! Great post! But, the funny thing is, Blinders, is this shit actually DOES happen! They do, in fact, get pissed off. All for what??? Stats……….In this cult, you ARE a stat.

Well maybe COP pulled an Ian Faith (Spinal Tap manager) and told the Minions ‘the show has been canceled in Boston……don’t worry, it’s not a big college town’

There used to be a reference in the old ED packs that said that “Old Saint Hill” did not use the proportionate pay plan. The staff actually got paid. Then when Hubbard left in the late 60s they changed to proportionate pay and stopped paying the staff.
He started the SO and stopped even pretending to care about paying his staff. By then he knew that he could get them to work anyways.
I am unaware of the proportionate pay ever system resulting in sustained living wages for the staff so if that had been the purpose it is one of the worst policies I know. The intent appears to have been to shift the “risk” of not making payroll from Hubbard and the organization to the staff.
Once done, he could stop worrying about paying them and simply use scare tactics, mind control and coercion to keep them working for free.

I believe LRH was the author of the proportionate pay plan, however chose to omit specifics about actual implementation, instead deferred that to management.
Another disastrous policy worthy of note is Fast Flow Recruitment. Here you just hire-hire-hire and if they stick -great! If they don’t, route them out through Qual, along with their freeloader bill and a program detailing how they can be more employable.
As a recruiter in a CLV org, I dreaded the first week’s pay for newbies. 90% never came back.
Like so many things in Scn, it demands a lot, but gives little in return.
Old Surfer Dude says
First off, awesome post, genetru! Bravo! Having been on staff, I experienced that! I can recall the entire staff got yelled at by the ED for not producing and him saying to us, “OK! HOW ABOUT NO PAY THIS WEEK!” Well, let me assure you, it wasn’t just one week. And, of course, everyone had been working their butts off, but, it was still OUR fault. I shudder when I think I was actually involved in this madness….
mark marco says
ditto for me, all that, working for free, working butt off, still our fault, still kinda creeped out that i ever was involved.
