Scientology is so desperate to get anything resembling good PR they are putting out paid press releases about an upcoming “attempt” to do a “record-setting” street clean up.
Scientology Volunteer Ministers Attempt Record-Breaking Cleanup to Help Reduce Crime
“This planet is ours and we need to take care of it,” said Glendy Goodsell, Executive Director of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Florida. Ms. Goodsell noted that the cleanup and campaign to make a safe Clearwater is underscored by the “Broken Windows” theory. Social scientist James Wilson and criminologist George Kelling proposed in 1982 that disorder (“broken windows”) and incivility within a community are linked to subsequent occurrences of serious crime.
The VMs have been cleaning up Greenwood since 2015 and in coordination with police and neighborhood leaders have noted a subsequent 60% drop in crime.
Scientology Volunteer Ministers:
Motivated by the words of Scientology Founder, L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology Volunteer Ministers has responded to every major disaster worldwide since 2001. Their Florida chapter played a leading role in relief efforts following the World Trade Center tragedy in New York, the South Asian 2004 tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, the Haiti earthquake and more recently Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico.
The organization opened a new center at 101 N Fort Harrison Ave in downtown Clearwater, Florida on July 11th 2015. The center further provides free training in the 19 subjects of The Scientology Handbook to help individuals learn the skills to overcome day-to-day problems and challenges. One might wonder about this “record”?
Largest in Florida? Clearwater? Greenwood neighborhood? Largest ever by anyone? Largest by VMs ever? Largest in 2018?
Perhaps it is largest ever by VMs in Greewnood on 10 feb 2018? That one they can achieve — if the person who wrote this shows up and picks up a gum wrapper it will be a new release “Scientology Volunteer Ministers Biggest Street Clean Up Pulled Off In Style”.
Incredibly, they are paying money to make these announcements. And this is subsidized by taxpayers.
Sad.
Gus Cox says
Meanwhile, a massive rescue and cleanup effort is underway in Santa Barbara – and where is the “largest relief force on the planet?” I’ll bet their VM van is still sitting in the parking lot gathering spiderwebs.
Wynski says
Scamology has no members in SoCal.
Ammo Alamo says
As usual, Scn combines elements of every possible deceptive nuance to advance their PR. No number of semi-slaves styled as religious volunteers can make up for all the evil they continue to do on a daily basis.
They claim to be reducing crime with a cleanup, with no evidence that it happened before or could happen in the future. They ignore the beam in their own eye – their policy of fair game, something the evidence shows they never quit, just played lip service to quitting. They ignore their own internal slavery, their incessant crowing for more more more money, their claims to great things which they make, while also requiring members to sign legal documents saying those *great things* are not part of the deal… it just goes on and on and on, including using supposedly confidential auditing files for blackmail attempts – they force people to claim the most outlandish crimes just to finally exit the audit or sec check, and pay for the abuse, then later present those same forced claims as if it were an admission made under oath with a lawyer present. No number of semi-slaves styled as religious volunteers can make up for all the evil they continue to do on a daily basis.
Now, if the PR announcement had said “Disconnected family members welcome” it could signal a sea change, but don’t hold your ever’ lovin’ breath.
Wynski says
Talk about F ups. NEVER lie in a press release. Dealing with people who have IQs in the bottom 1/4 of the Bell curve.
Teen says
“Motivated by the words of LRH….”
God forbid they should act on their own conscience but they need psychoman to direct their every move….. Puppets…
Aquamarine says
“This planet is ours and we need to take care of it”.
This “PLANET”?
Honestly, the insufferable smugness of these fuckwits! The narcisisism!
So they’re going to pitch in and do some needed street cleanup in their area.
BUT not without all of us being treated to a mini lecture in ShermanSpeak.
On the other hand, I like that Flog is being forced to the mat and actually has to do SOMETHING to get good press.
People – aren’t you, like, KISSING THE GROUND that you’re no longer in, pressed into service to ride around street cleaning in a stupid yellow cult truck?
I don’t know about you, but mwah, mwah, mwah!

Damned good interview.

Wynski says
Thank you Missy Karen!
Komodo Dragon says
Yes, this is an excellent interview with Mike. I watched it the other night, was going to post the info for it, but you beat me to it. Mike, you are a true humanitarian, and so glad you left the destructive cult of hate and fear mongering.
Spike says
Karen, that was a very good interview. Listened to it in full last week.
OTD-OUTTHEDOOR says
The “broken windows” approach in law enforcement has been discredited thoroughly for it’s classist and racist underpinnings. Poor, urban neighborhoods are often the targets, where people most often rent their living spaces and business spaces. How are people supposed to take pride in what they do not own and usually can’t get assistance in fixing when there are problems? This is a glaring issue in big cities: it’s so easy for others to scoff at the trash lying around the Bronx, when the problem is that trash cans there are not regularly emptied. I see this all the time. People use the trash cans but the cans are often overflowing with garbage that just blows around and collects. People there desperately want building owners to fix problems, but the problems go unfixed. Who should be targeted then? Trash in Manhattan is picked up because codes are enforced. It looks tidy in comparison.
Cat W. says
Thanks for this information. I suspected something like that when I read the part about that theory.
What bugs me is that the biggest crime going on in Clearwater is the well-organized, clean-windowed crime of an abusive cult that, among other things, extorts lots of money from its members.
hgc10 says
#If they fix even one broken window, color me impressed. I’m not holding my breath.
Inspired by the words of L Ron Hubbard? You mean these words? “You shouldn’t be scrubbing the floor on your hands and knees. Get yourself a nigger; that’s what they’re born for.” Somehow that doesn’t inspire me to go out and clean public spaces. I’ll stick with Norman Vincent Peale.
Juan Carlo Ocampo says
Always saving face, but never really do as big as they say they do, what kind of crime are they talking about? What does clean up has anything to do with crime? Criminals don’t care if the streets are clean or not, who are they fooling?
Valerie says
60 percent drop in crime. It’s good to know she’s a good practicing scientologist with a functioning random false statistic generator. I hope she has the backup one required by policy as well.
Mick Roberts says
I was wondering how they might have come up with that as well. It seems most likely to be a fudged stat (Marc Headley talks about how they justify their statistics) or perhaps there really was a 60% drop in crime but it’s a result of something else that should mostly be attributed to the ideas & work of the police and local leaders…..and Scientology never seems to miss an opportunity to take credit for other people’s work.
Chicken says
They advertised a 500 man clean up for the same date that the Town Hall Meeting at a church in Clearwater with the Leah Remini and Mike was supposed to happen. The meeting was cancelled but I always wondered if they did their 500 man clean up. I guess I got my answer.
Computer Guy says
Recall a time when a Scientologist passed out a bus load of Way To Happiness pamphlets in St Louis Missouri….
Do you Recall the Valuable Final Product from that “Psycho of Action”
A black man was shot and killed…..
And then the Ferguson riots exploded to the streets
That fiasco lasted a long time.
Thanks Scientology???
Ya Losers!?
If you are going to take responsibility ….. take full responsibility!
Scientology caused the Ferguson, Missouri riots!
Cindy says
Silvia, Funny, but the Ideal Orgs and Flag are the cleanest, most beautiful MEST buildings around and yet they have the most criminal things going on there. Go figure. Their statement that dirty streets and broken windows make for more crime is just a red herring deflector off the scamming for money that they do daily in their bastions of marble.
Jere Lull (37 years recovering) says
The whole idea of keeping an area clean to knock down crime is age-old: Theory is that if you’re proud of your neighborhood, you, and the visiting ne’er-do-wells, won’t do the crime out of respect for a well-kept neighborhood. Of course, that doesn’t apply to the C of M: They specifically target such —(“upstat areas”) —as places where whales, and new staff are to be found. Look at the carnage they’ve created on college campuses over the decades. And look at that blue monstrosity they created in Hollywood, the epitome of glitz for the rest of the world. THAT was an act of uncivil violence if I’ve ever seen one. Tubby TALKED of star-high goals we bought into for awhile, while destroying or circumventing or undermining the civilizations which were civilized enough to give him the freedom to operate within their borders (for the most part.) He loved to “game” the system: Contribute little or nothing, take anything that wasn’t nailed down, and spin a web of twisty words to make the victims believe they were better off as a result of his dishonesty.
Tam says
Mike, I live in the clearwater area. I don’t believe there is a 60% drop in crime. Are they talking about JUST the Greenwood area? I know Scn embellishes their numbers but 60% is really way off.
jim says
I’ma going out on a limb here, but: I bet that there end up being more observers at the event than VM’s doing their prance and parade around that gum wrapper.
Liz Breckow says
It’s not just “record” that the CoS uses to imply good works without specifics. There’s also “major disaster”, “relief efforts” and “leading role”. All of these terms are vague and can be interpreted to fit any particular situation at will.
No surprises but interesting in light of the recent push backs from Clearwater.
Thx
Mary Kahn says
??
One thing getting auditing (couseling) will not do for the inidividual is give them a GREATER sense of community or an altruistic desire to do something for their fellow man. Auditing and scientology technology (especially in this day and age) in general makes one less compassionate, empathetic or altruistic and in fact, will individuate the individual (“I am god/OT and the wog world doesnt get it.”).
The intention of front groups is to create good PR so that others will reach for scientology services (cha ching) and if they get lucky, attract more whales into the church of scientology and maybe another friend for david miscavige to play with.
As is with the Ideal Org program, the church/david miscavige has it bass ackwards.
It doesn’t help another/others learn so much about themselves that their attention goes more outward to helping their fellow man. Instead it lures in others by trying to create the perception that this great organizations does so much for mankind that there must be something to the church of scientology’s technology that helps people learn so much about themselves that they are now free and caring enough that they turn their attentions on their fellow man.
In fact, people in the church and receiving its technology become more and more introverted and withhold (cognitive dissonance) how they really feel or who they truly are, especially the further up the “Bridge to Total Freedom” one goes. There are those deluded enough to think they help by contributing to or participating in these front group but for the most part contributions and participations are done through force or intimidation.
Cindy says
Excellent truths, Mary Kahn. I could not have said it better. Thanks.
visitor says
They won’t get anywhere near 500 people.
civmar says
I’m going, if I’m in town. I’ll look for my friend Joanne, whom I haven’t seen in years. Will she speak to me? I think so!
I went to the opening of the Coachman Bldg last year. I got there late so i missed Miscavige. It was very strange walking around in that crowd. I spoke briefly with a few, no prob.
Jere Lull (37 years recovering) says
they MIGHT get 50 people, but will try to make it look like 500 — or 1,000 if Davey-boy’s feeling expansive that day. Shermanspeak, of course, will inflate it to 47X and straight up somehow, and the rubes won’t know the difference.
Anyone taking bets on whether the city council declares it a great day for Clearwater afterwards? The press release implies that the police are already onboard with the caper, since it has”worked” since 2015. Hey, wasn’t that when they started to hand around The Way to Haplessness booklets? I thought THEY were the magic bullets that somehow tamed the savage beasties with just their existence. I must have mighty MUs.
Aquamarine says
“Way to Haplessness”…good one! 🙂
Zola says
“Motivated by the words of Scientology Founder, L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology Volunteer Ministers has responded to every major disaster worldwide since 2001.”
The CofS may have responded by selling sweet little ‘Way to Hapless’ booklets, but they have not stood out for actually helping during any major disaster, ever. They operate out of self interest only.
It’s difficult to be of any assistance when your organization is a toxic, major disaster!
jim says
Zola,
It is indeed difficult to be of any assistance when these clowns have had NO emergency response training.
OSHA has a long list of training courses, as does the Red Cross, and many governmental agencies. Many classes are free to residents. Then there are professional and certification courses to make a living responding to disasters.
The VM clowns are none of the above and simply represent an impediment to the real workers.
Jere Lull (37 years recovering) says
As with so much else, SCN believes in its heart of hearts that they’re so smart/powerful/experienced that ANYthing they attempt to do, or even think about, is going to create effects far greater than any mere wog’s, even when said wogs have real-world training and experience, with demonstrated effectiveness.
It’s a corollary of the “not invented here” syndrome, which gets in the way of progress in the real world. Otherwise intelligent people fall prey to it all the time.
jim says
I read you, Jere,
It’s their illusion that their delusion is better than anyone else’s; Or was it: Their delusion of their illusion is better than anyone else’s.
Whatever. Their introversion (closed mindedness) assures that whatever it is that they do, it will NOT resonate well with the physical universe and the some 7 billion human inhabitants thereon.
chuckbeattyxHOOEYologist75to03 says
Thanks for the dismal (good news if one interprets Scientology’s ploys and PR tactics as Keystone Kops desperate) news.
Question:
Has anyone seen RPF members working at the Flag Mill in recent days, as of 2018. Was the Flag RPF disbanded, and there are NO more RPF members doing the Mill jobs as the Flag RPF routinely used to do?
(I did almost 7 years on the RPF, at Int’s Happy Valley and PAC, and for a tiny stretch of 3 months was the “RPF In Charge for the Flag RPF” a job way over my head, but I read the Running Program Advices due to the RPF at Flag piloting it back then, but I was a glutton for the RPF nonsense.)
Chris Shugart says
Attention all gangsters, hoodlums, and assorted scofflaws. The COS VM Crimestoppers are on the case and were clearing the streets of you scoundrels. It’s going to be the biggest crime sweep since Eliot Ness cleaned up Chicago. Your days are numbered.
Jere Lull (37 years recovering) says
The biggest scofflaw was always Tubby. He even went to sea to more easily circumvent the laws which have evolved to level the playing field amongst those of us living on this rock. Tubby didn’t see a law he didn’t want to break, if it limited him in any way, AFAICT. THEN he created volumes of inviolable rules for the rubes who were taken in by his deceits, and enforced them arbitrarily, capriciously, and spitefully
Aquamarine says
🙂 Chris.
Graham says
“500-man community cleanup…. Neighbors are invited”. ie The VMs will provide as many ‘bodies’ as they can muster and are desperately hoping neighbors will turn out in large enough numbers to make it look like there are 500. Free yellow Tee shirt anyone? Wear one for the photo-shoot at least? Please? Pretty please?
Teen says
I thought the same thing, Graham… All a ruse, of course…
Bob G says
The best way for them to clean up the streets is to leave.

Wow! Spot f…ing on Bob. Spot f…ing on!!!!

SILVIA says
Seem a bit disjointed, do a clean up to reduce crime? Do you mean if an area is dirty increases crime?
God knows.
Jere Lull (37 years recovering) says
SYLVIA: Remember that logic plays no part in their teeny, tiny bubble.
