Another in the ongoing Sunday “Redux Series” reissuing earlier postings that still seem relevant. This one from 1 June 2013. The descent into madness has continued unabated since… It’s crazier today than it was 18 months ago, and there are more and more people speaking out as a result.
This is the second in a series of postings examining the subject of Scientology disconnection practices. See Disconnection — Scientology’s Nasty Secret.
Who qualifies for disconnection?
The simple answer is “anyone deemed an undesirable.”
It used to be true that one disconnected from Suppressive Persons if they could not be handled.
And Suppressive Persons are denominated as those individuals who display the majority of characteristics of the anti-social personality.
Old School Think
According to “old school” Scientology thinking:
As they only comprise 20% of the population and as only 2 1/2% of this 20% are truly dangerous, we see that with a very small amount of effort we could considerably better the state of society. Well known, even stellar examples of such a personality are, of course, Napoleon and Hitler. Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, Christie and other famous criminals were well known examples of the anti-social personality.
THE SOCIAL PERSONALITY
Man in his anxieties is prone to witch hunts. All one has to do is designate “people wearing black caps” as the villains and one can start a slaughter of people in black caps. This characteristic makes it very easy for the anti-social personality to bring about a chaotic or dangerous environment. Man is not naturally brave or calm in his human state. And he is not necessarily villainous. Even the anti-social personality, in his warped way, is quite certain that he is acting for the best and commonly sees himself as the only good person around, doing all for the good of everyone – the only flaw in his reasoning being that if one kills everyone else, none are left to be protected from the imagined evils. His conduct in his environment and toward his fellows is the only method of detecting either the anti-social or the social personalities. Their motives for self are similar – self-preservation and survival. They simply go about achieving these in different ways. Thus, as Man is naturally neither calm nor brave, anyone to some degree tends to be alert to dangerous persons and hence, witch hunts can begin. It is therefore even more important to identify the social personality than the anti- social personality. One then avoids shooting the innocent out of mere prejudice or dislike or because of some momentary misconduct.
Further in this same reference is an admonition:
The frailty of showing how the harmful people can be known is that these then apply the characteristics to decent people to get them hunted down and eradicated. The swan song of every great civilization is the tune played by arrows, axes or bullets used by the anti-social to slay the last decent men. From HCO BULLETIN OF 27 SEPTEMBER 1966 THE ANTI-SOCIAL PERSONALITY THE ANTI-SCIENTOLOGIST
The Brave New World of Corporate Scientology
According to what is now considered “normal” one can suddenly find oneself a target for disconnection for activities that could hardly be considered “anti-social” or “suppressive” – a mother who refuses to disconnect from her son or daughter who blew from course or took drugs. A husband who will not allow his wife to take out a mortgage on their house. Or even lesser “crimes” of refusing to unfriend someone on Facebook or being unwilling to attend events.
As time goes by and the hardcore keeps shrinking — leaving the ever more robotic to keep the lights on – the standards of what qualifies one for labeling as a “Napoleon, Hitler or Dillinger” becomes increasingly insane.
The Lord of The Flies children who occupy most of the MAA roles in Scientology these days (usually second generation Scientologists who have ONLY known the world according to Corporate Scientology) are unmoved and unemotional about the injustices, hardships and insanities they mete out in the name of “Keeping Scientology Working,” “No other fish to fry,” “Command Intention” and whatever other platitudes they spout. These are Apocalypse Zombies wound up and walking inexorably in the direction they have been pointed. Rationality or common sense are not in their vocabularies.
Scientology “Thought Crimes”
If you have the idea that this is all somehow going to magically get better, unfortunately, the ONLY evidence is that it is going to get worse.
The “crimes” for which you can be subjected to “disconnection” have already edged VERY close to “thought crimes.”
Thinking bad thoughts about “COB” will get you removed from the building, and you might find friends and family giving you the stink eye, but you have to do something else (lip off to an IAS Reg or refuse to show up for an event) before you get a “Non Enturb” Order and subsequent verbal declare (or the latest technique – for another posting – the “letter declare” with a highlighted “Policy” attached). But the day is coming when it will be overtly acceptable to declare people and order any remaining Scientologists to disconnect from them for their THOUGHTS. IT is closer than anyone would have thought possible a decade ago. The highest crime in the Corporate Scientology Universe these days is no longer “communicating”, it is “Expressing CI (Counter Intention) to Command” (this ranges from open revolt — rare — to unacceptable facial expressions).
Sadly, long gone are the days when one was allowed to “think for themselves” or “question authority” or “never desert a comrade in need” or “never permit your affinity to be alloyed.”
In fact, this whole subject crashes headlong into something really fundamental. And I think it is worth revisiting as it provides some simple stable data that are supposedly the very underpinnings of scientology thinking about achieving happiness and meaning in life. But in this “Golden Age” they seem to have been relegated to the Iron Age, or perhaps the Dark Age. This is “old” and “no longer applicable,” replaced by “current practices.”
The Code of Honor
1. Never desert a comrade in need, in danger, or in trouble.
2. Never withdraw allegiance once granted.
3. Never desert a group to which you owe your support.
4. Never disparage yourself or minimize your strength or power.
5. Never need praise, approval or sympathy.
6. Never compromise with your own reality.
7. Never permit your affinity to be alloyed.
8. Do not give or receive communication unless you yourself desire it.
9. Your self-determinism and your honor are more important than your immediate life.
10. Your integrity to yourself is more important than your body.
11. Never regret yesterday. Life is in you today, and you make your tomorrow.
12. Never fear to hurt another in a just cause.
13. Don’t desire to be liked or admired.
14. Be your own adviser, keep your own counsel and select your own decisions.
15. Be true to your own goals.
Amen.
Jens TINGLEFF says
It appears to me, as a never-in, that the threat of disconnection is there to raise the “cost” of exiting the group (of those who are victimsed by the criminal organisation known as the “church” of $cientology).
Rick Ross’ new book, “Cults inside out,” points to a high “exist cost” as an important element of the coercive regime that some have called “brainwashing.” Good book, by the way – IMHO

As a wordsmith, as someone who has spent most of my life with a passion for the written word and its potential, I have come upon two irrefutable facts or observations —
1. Words have been used to craft some of the most beautiful and meaningful concepts the word has ever know. Think poetry, our Constitution, the words of Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Jefferson, Buddha, Eleanor Roosevelt and many others.
2. Words have been used to justify the most horrific and mind-numbing acts of cruelty and depravity this world has ever witnessed.
Words are not the source of chaos or abuse – people are.
Jihadists use words from the Koran to justify suicide bombings and the wholesale suppression of women.
Christians have used words from the Bible to justify segregation and the suppression and vilification of gays.
The list of such interpretations are long, varied and filled with pain and heartache.
LRH’s writing are as useful and potentially rewarding as words from the Bible, the Koran, the Talmud and a thousand other sources. And they all have the same potential for misuse.
I liked everything I read here today. I respect everyone’s journey and know the heartache they are experiencing. We have all found something within SCN – some of it good and some of it bad. I loved the potential of SCN from day one and yet 42 years later, it has left me twisted into knots that I am still trying to unravel. I’ve never experienced such a love/hate relationship before and through it all, the one thing that has kept me sane, is knowing that underlying every bit of insanity – was some person making it happen. Some manifestation of an evil intent.
People – some people – are infinitely capable of using anything, the breath of a child, the smile on a woman’s face, the laughter in an old man’s heart – to manipulate and destroy. These are the righteous targets of our wrath.
All of you have aided my own return to reason and I owe you all a thank you.
Christmas is upon us. Peach on Earth, Goodwill to Man. Well, why not, that sounds just fantastic to me.
I wish you all a great holiday and wishes for an even better year in 2015. To those without all their loved ones – I believe in my heart of hearts that this will soon be rectified and one day soon your families will be whole.
You’re all wonderful and worthy of good things and friendship.

For a cult that exposes Christ and/or Christianity as an implant, it is remarkable to see how they follow some words of Christ as written in the bible (St Luke, 14:26):
‘If any man came to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple’.
(King James Version)
I bet not many christians know this. Happily not all christians past and present applied this to the letter.

The 1954 ‘Code of Honor’ was written around the same time that Hubbard wrote the dubious ‘Creed of the Church of Scientology’ and implemented what he called the “religion angle.”
Also during this time period he wrote the ‘Manual on Dissemination of Material’ with its less than honest template for how Scientology should present itself to the outside world, and its “ruin utterly” and “always attack” sentiments.
And also around this time appeared the “Russian Textbook on Psycho-Politics” which conveniently featured the Russian Communists denouncing Dianetics. Hubbard had no problem looking Scientologists in the eye and telling them that this was an authentic document.
Oh, and there are also the letters which Hubbard wrote to the FBI during this period – letters that earned him an “appears mental” designation – and these are worthy of examination.
To make a long story short, IMO, it’s advisable to take the seemingly noble sounding missive of the ‘Code of Honor’ with a grain of salt.
As for “Kool Aid drinkers,” no one but “Kool Aid drinkers” – or those still recovering from being “Kool Aid” drinkers – takes Hubbard’s ‘Code of Honor’ at face value, and reads it with attentive seriousness. The ‘Code of Honor’ was one of many nice tasting hooks that Hubbard used to snare the unsuspecting.
It’s been used for decades by well meaning break-away Scientologists who are trying to extricate others from corporate Scientology, and that’s understandable, but please keep in mind that the same ‘Code of Honor’ has kept many more inside corporate Scientology than it has inspired to leave corporate Scientology.
As for SP Declares, the first SP Declare of which I became aware, shortly after becoming involved with Scientology, was the SP Declare of John McMaster “the world’s first real Clear.” That was 1969. Then, being the recipient of an SP Declare was like a death sentence, as it was an official statement by the “sanest group on Earth” that a person was a “criminal psychotic,” an “enemy of life, the universe, and Mankind,” etc. Such a Declare blocked a person’s path on the “Bridge to Total Freedom and Total Power,” doomed him to “endless agonized trillions,” etc., and made him, for Scientologists, radioactive: someone to be shunned.
Ah yes, the “good old days.”
Brian says
The good old days: a wishful thinking, an idealization of what is believed in, a romanced notion of reality.
Yes, things were not as violent. But then again we only learned about the truth with the advance of the internet.
If the Internet was around during Ron’s time how do you think he’d deal with it?
Same as DM: the Internet is suppressive and evil.
In other words- the truth is evil
Schorsch says
We had not the first time in our life or existence to face that we a)joined a group b) did swear to forward the group goals c)the group changed dramatically d)we had to betray by leaving the group.
After leaving you know intellectually that you made the right decision as the conditions changed within the group since the time you did join. Maybe you try to find out that this group had been that way always but you did not know then. But behind that intellectual justification is the breach of a promise. Later on after this “fact” you are reminded that you have committed an overt. Then you come out of this a little bit smaller and a little bit less powerful. As you did live it and not fixed to a device you do not think you are being implanted.

I do believe we are past the tipping point for the radical church. All that is left is buildings, cash and those out of touch with reality, with current culture and with the demise of the tech of auditing itself. There is still financial suffering in the radical church but this disconnection policy/practice is the true brainfuck of the operation. This ridiculous, mean, indecent, childish, violation of the bill of rights is truly analogous, of a parasite that is killing it’s host. To any disconnectors out there, …..grow a pair and stop letting others tell you who you can associate with. Shame on you children for disrespecting your parents, you will regret your actions. Triple shame on you cowardly parents, for abandoning your life long responsibility to the human beings you brought into the world. I made xmas cookies with my kids today, we had hugs, kisses, laughs, it was fabulous.

McCarran you are a strong loving woman, wife and mother. You have walked a path that none wish to tread. Do not give up or give in. The day will come when your family will be back together for all the right reasons.
Everyone who is in the same situation stand together and stay strong – evil will not win in the end.
No speed of wind or water rushing by but you have speed far greater.
You can climb back up a stream of radiance to the sky, and back through history up the stream of time.
And you were given this swiftness, not for haste nor chiefly that you may go where you will, but in the rush of everything to waste, that you may have the power of standing still – off any still or moving thing you say.

Excellent post Mike. Getting declared now a days is quite a distiction. I must admit I worked inside an OSA team for a long time and there was a lot of ARC, auditor’s mentality, respect for staff, etc. but it was a micro cosmos, far from Flag and from DM. Thank you for your integrity Mike and for speaking the truth and sharing your points of views with us. I remember an interview where you spoke of Saint Hill in the old days when your parents had moved to England, and how things had changed. Well if the rate between the suppressive and the normal people is 20/100. Let’s remember that over 80% of the staff of the old Saint Hill and 80% of the top auditors trained by LRH were declared. We are all lucky to be out of this madness and to be able to communicate our thoughts freely, and in this new path in our personal quest you Mike have played a very helpful part. Thank you again for your very good work and happy Christmas to you and your wonderful family. When I see the way you, Karen, Marty and the Headlys look and compare it to the zombies of the ambush in LAX there is no possible doubt about the side of the fence where suppression is.

Mike this is a great post. And the day you walked away from the church with nothing shows that your Code of Honor was in then and continues to this day. I really appreciate your blog and the posts from all the wonderful people here.
To you and all others here I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and for those that are disconnected from their loved ones may 2015 bring you all back together again.
Let’s all hope we can all meet at OSD’s shindig in 2015!

Ms P. Yes Mike has made a huge difference. I don’t want to put words into his mouth but I see he walked away from the church with the best gifts he could have had – his own code of honour no longer the one imposed (but largely ignored) by his “seniors” within COS. Integrity, self empowerment, the ability to think for himself and help others come to mind. I can’t help but feel it’s the smart ones that are leaving the church.
Mike have a lovely yuletide holiday with your family and best wishes for the new year that you will meet and enjoy your kids that are still scientologists in 2015.

Having suffered very painful disconnections as a result of my morphing into a “suppressive person” after 35 years of working in tech (how does THAT make ANY sense whatsoever?) I can understand folks who want to remain “under the radar.” I was unable to slip away gradually and stay away quietly, because like Ralph Kramden on the old Honeymooners, I have A BIG MOUTH! My advice to any UTR folks in the current CoS reading this who have children in the CoS and/or a job that depends on being a Scientologist is: START covertly planning your future NOW. That means start looking for employment in a non Scientology company and if at all possible, MOVE to a location as far away from an org as possible. I know this in many cases is extremely difficult to do, but start looking at the greatest good for YOUR life and for the life of your family. It might take some time to accomplish the above, but START the cycle of action. I finally realized that despite long term connections, one CAN move away from San Francisco or LA or NYC and still “live a life” – you don’t have to move all the way to Asia like I did. Maybe you can move fifty miles from LA or 100 miles from San Francisco. Very very difficult I know if your job depends on staying where you are. But if you want to remain under the radar so that you can keep your family intact in the long run, you may have to take a drastic measure or two. Of course, if you want to say “fuck you church, you can’t make me leave ANYWHERE” then you can just stay in Hollywood or North Beach or Clearwater and deal with the fallout. Personally, if I had children growing up, I’d get out of Dodge as quickly as I could get out.

Great advice, Joe P. Yes, start preparing quietly now: Unfriend most of the KA drinkers on FB. Most will never notice you did that. That way the church won’t look at your FB account and start contacting all your KA drinking friends to tell them you’re SP. (I had one friend who never knew until a year after I’d been declared and she only found out through a fluke. That friend never went on FB, so never go the FB R Factor to disconnect from me. So start looking for work at a NON Scn company, get off FB or at least get the KA drinkers off your FB, start cultivating Non Scn friends, and for God’s sake, get your kids out of Scn schools and out of the LA area. That way they won’t be recruited for SO. To paraphrase a good song, “Mama don’t let your babies grow up to be Corporate Scientologists.”
Beryl says
I never understood the Code of Honor. And some of it just did not make sense to me. For example:
9. Your self-determinism and your honor are more important than your body.
10. Your integrity to yourself is more important than your body.
Was he implying that if one had to choose between remaining alive or Scientology, one would be better off to choose Scientology even if he would killed? To me, that is the way it reads.
Mike Rinder says
Well, as with most altruistic codes, there is always room for interpretation.
A KoolAid drinker might interpret it as you describe.
On the other hand, a whistleblower about church abuses (and thus an “anti-scientologist” in their eyes) might consider that continuing to expose the crimes of the church is more important than physical well-being or safety….
I guess you could equate this to putting your life on the line for what you believe in.
1984 says
Mike, the Code of Honor itself is fine. ‘Supporting’ a group is fine. However, if the group changes to something else, then the ‘support’ is null and void.
Like many things, it is a two edged sword. (Or, if you prefer, ‘It takes two to tango”.)

A bit off topic, but I thought a survey of your readers on who is affected by FAMILY-disconnection (kids, spouses, only the very closest family) with numbers (how many kids, for how many years etc.) would be quite revealing and make the accusation quite real that Scientology is destroying families.
Kelly Reno says
This is the first Christmas I will not be able to see my son. He chose to disconnect from me after I told him how I really felt about the church and I assured him I would never be coming back. It is sad that it has come to this. I was quiet for years about my true feelings about the church because I didn’t want my son to have to make a choice between the church or his mother. He disconnected from me by text message a few months ago. All I could do was text back letting him know that I’m sorry he feels that way and that I will always be here for him no matter what.
I was inspired today to share part of my story. Now that I have lost my son to the church’s toxic disconnection policy, there’s no reason for me to be quiet. It has been almost five years since I quietly walked away from the church and began rebuilding my life. When I was in the church I had many friends and was somewhat of an “opinion leader.” Having had a good amount of professional success with my writing, I often gave seminars and talks on writing for Celebrity Center and on the Freewinds. I was married to a big contributor to the church and helped put on many fundraising events. But I began to see through the lies and left on my own cognizance. I’ve probably been declared a suppressive person, but have never seen anything official on this from the church. To those who know me, they will attest that I’m about as suppressive as a golden retriever. Below is part of a private letter I sent to my best friend of 20 years when I walked away a few years ago. This explains my story.
“First I want you to know that I miss you. I care deeply about you and you have been my best friend for many years despite the long distance and long gaps in communication. I will always love you and treasure you. You’re an amazing, bright star and I love you to pieces. But I want you to know that I am no longer part of the church and will not be coming back. I’ve communicated this to many church members who have called and emailed over the last couple of years and I have been left alone for the most part. I suppose I’m on a disaffected list.
I want you to understand where I’m coming from and that’s why I’ve waited until I had the time to sit down and write. I know you know part of the story. When I left xxxx and moved away in 2009, I already had one foot out the door as you probably know. Between the insane financial situation with xxxx and the constant fundraising—all combined with the fact that my life was getting WORSE rather than better after doing L11, Power, Power Plus and the complete Basics line-up – I began to see that something was very, very wrong. As my life got worse and the money ran out completely, I couldn’t get any help from the church, unless of course I paid more money. When L11 didn’t “work” I went back twice for review (at my own expense). Unwilling to pay yet again to fix it, I gave up. At a time when I needed help the most, I felt shut out and alone. This is when I began to LOOK at what was really going on with my broken marriage, my church and my so-called friends.
Just moving away from the physical church in LA living in the mountains was the first part of my long healing process. I began to read the so-called “entheta” on the internet which I had never done before. I read Debbie Cook’s email and listened to the many critics of the church and found quite a bit of truth. I also listened to and read the church’s pieces on their critics like the Freedom magazine articles and the “who is so and so” sites and found those to be quite sickening. I learned a lot during this time and came to the conclusion that the church had evolved into something I no longer wanted to be a part of.
I don’t understand how you, being on the front lines at xxx don’t see through the bullshit. You must read the stories of ex-staff and ex-church members being used and abused. All of Int. management is gone for Christ’s sake! What about the crazy never-ending fundraising? What about the majority of the original Clears being declared suppressive? What about the failing “ideal” orgs? What goes through your mind when you see the fake church stats being busted by the critics – how the church is shrinking and not expanding while you’re being told it’s straight up and vertical expansion? How do you explain away the empty orgs? Are all the critics of the church lying? Are they all crazy? Well, I don’t think they are. In fact, I know they are not. I don’t see massive expansion of the church. I see empty buildings, empty “ideal” orgs.
I remember you showing me the video that OSA made about Marty Rathbun and Mike Rinder. Around that same time the MAA in LA was grilling me about being in communication with those two, sure that they’d contacted me to get me to leave the church. They hadn’t. Quite honestly, I didn’t even know who Marty Rathbun was and I had no idea that Rinder had left the church years earlier until you showed me that video. I left the church on my own cognizance after bad results with my auditing, un-handled originations about my auditing and the severe and never-ending financial disaster with creditors my then husband was creating.
I am sorry that I ever took part in IAS fundraising activities and helped put on these events. I sincerely thought that funds were being raised for such activities as building learning centers for underprivileged kids in third world countries and to help VM activities, unaware that the funds were actually stashed away in reserves and had grown to over a BILLION dollars! All that time the church had the money for these “urgent” projects in reserves that could have easily financed any of these activities. Yet the fundraising goes on today – hundreds and thousands of dollars continue to be squeezed out of poor regular guys who are going into debt to help the latest “cause” of the IAS when in fact its going into reserves and not being used for whatever “crisis of the week” is happening. It is sickening. Anyway, I’m sure you’ve read about all this stuff. I just don’t get it – why you stay and support this group. It’s a rotten sinking ship.
The last time I saw you, you expressed concern that I would drift away from the church and you said that I was weak. Well, I’m not weak and I’ve left for good. It took massive courage for me to break away from a culture and a group that I was entwined with for so long. Knowing that I would have few friends and no stable data, I did it anyway. That took a hell of a lot of courage. I went through a LOT all by myself. I had no one to talk to, no friends to call, no family that would understand. But I remained positive and I came out on the other side stronger than ever and determined to create a new life.
For me, walking away from my many long-term friends was the hardest part—knowing that if I were to leave the church those friends would disconnect and never talk to me again. I have confronted that fact that people who would abandon me as a friend because of what religion I practice (or don’t practice) aren’t really friends—are they? Having conditional friends is as good as having no friends. Realize that your church friends do not love you unconditionally. In fact, they will turn on you the second they’re told to.
After a good long look, I decided to move on from the church and my conditional friends, for what I was experiencing was no longer a positive, spiritual journey for me. It was quite the opposite. It was all about money and making more money and donating more money and on and on.
My life outside of the church is absolutely beautiful. I am truly happy and free and I wish you were out here with me living and creating and having fun. I’m in love, I live in paradise, I’ve made many wonderful real friends, I am healthy and have a sane and happy family. Of course it isn’t all perfect, but it’s damn good. Inside the church, the outside world is made to look like a dangerous, dreary place. I was led to believe that if I left terrible things would happen to me. That’s so untrue! I’m here to tell you it is so beautiful out here. People are good and kind and yes, even spiritual. I have a good, sane family life and a thriving little business. I am free to study and read whatever I like and be friends with anyone I choose and I am sitting smack dab in the middle of the life of my dreams. I can love others without reservation. This is LIVING. It is amazing.”

To me, one of the saddest things about Scientology is that so many people — especially young people — have become convinced that the world is a terrible, sick place, full of dangerous people, and that the only safe course is to cut oneself off from every aspect of it, even from family and longtime friends, or risk losing one’s eternity.
The truth is quite different, and people, generally speaking, are wonderful. I’m so glad you’ve found a bright new place out here, and I hope many others will do likewise in the months and years ahead. I believe Miscavige’s cult is on its last legs, but even if that proves not to be the case, it does seem easier now for people to find their way out of it. You and Mike and many commenters here have blazed the trail.

Wow, what a moving, well written story, Kelly. l Your are brave and your integrity is huge. Welcome to the sunshine. Congratulations on making the break, no matter how hard it was to leave friends. I’m so sorry about your son. But I hold out hope that we will all see our kids again when the church crumbles as it is in the process of doing right. You are someone I would be proud to call my friend. You are so right that in the church your “friends” will throw you under the bus in a heartbeat if told to do so or if they thought it would save their neck… and that is the same as having NO friends. Out here you can have true friends. One request: Can you please post your picture? I couldn’t find you on FB. I think I know you, because I know that name. What city do you live in and can you post your pic?

The reasonable sounding part of ‘The Anti-Social Personality, The Anti-Scientologist’ is the candy coating on a nasty trap that’s been used at least since 1965 in Scientology.
‘The Code of Honor’ is another piece of mind candy that was presented to his followers by L. Ron Hubbard.
Disconnection and SP Declares have been used as a means of intimidation and control in Scientology for almost 50 years.

A sane post without “conduct of the prejudice” regarding sanity. Very refreshing Mike, well done.
The insanity dramatized by the Cof$ is so obvious now it begs belief that they exist in the open at all. But such is the life of corporate $cientology that it now can be positioned against such notable behaviours of infamous butchers from the past such as Napoleon, Pretty Boy Floyd, Hitler etc. Their mental behaviour patterns are pretty much identical but let’s not kid around with this, the Cof$ has blood on its hands already, some very serious criminal activity and neglect exists within the Cof$.
It takes very little research and only a cursory inspection of eyewitness reports from the victims of miscavige’s organisation to raise some very serious questions.
But I see the flow has been reversed against them anyway – any able people have already declared them suppressive and disconnected from them already. Those still caught in their web that can’t see the forest because of the trees will probably require some sort of judicial intervention upon miscavige to actually wake up.
Still on your side says
The “loud” brooding silence of church members over Miscavige’s disconnection policy reminds of Niemoller’s famous quote:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Miscavige will pay the piper for his destruction of families; hopefully sooner rather than later.

#13 coattive prediche = A Christian sermon (prediche) Roman Jews were forced to attend, object: humiliation. Abolished by Napoleon. LRH was anti-Semitic. Naploleon the “SP” was not. Go figure.
(Hubbard described Freud as an “Austrian Jew” in an HCOB. Why not just “an Austrian”? Called Hollywood the land of “Long Noses”, an obnoxious anti-Jewish slur, also used by the Nazis. In 1982 I was declared an SP for simply quitting Scientology. That puts me in the catagory with mass murderers. That was Ron’s intention. Below is a quote from Introduction to Scientology Ethics that strips human rights from people who are critical of Ron or Scientology.
“Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.” The Who
“clearly those covert or overt acts knowingly calculated to reduce or destroy the influence or activities of Scientology or prevent case gains or continued Scientology success and activity on the part of a Scientologist. As persons or groups that would do such a thing act out of self-interest only to the detriment of all others, they cannot be granted the rights and beingness ordinarily accorded rational beings.”
[Hubbard, Introduction to Scientology Ethics (1967)]
This doctrine is one of the top ten sources of the atrocity we see today. In this paragraph Ron has single handedly sanctioned violence or destructive actions against critics.
And has associated critics with mass murderers and the mafia.
This association once agreed upon, and once Ron’s messiaship is seen as total and singularly unique, being the “only road out”, justifies violent acts.
Criticism of Ron = the evil of Hitler
This is why good decent people in Scientology can become depraved black operators.

To Miscavige:
The church (Ron’s) doctrine of justified violence against critics and the many other writings that validate harming people to protect power IS the reason you are in the condition you are in.
Bolivar and Fair Game and Disconnection is the root cause of why society sees Scientology the way it does. Bolivar, Fair Game and disconnection is destructive not only to Scientologists but to you Dave. It’s killing you because there are countless people that are wishing your demise. Do you get that?
If you believe in thetans, postulates, intention and soul force you must understand that you are under enormous psychic attack by those families that have been broken up.
The family man IS NOT A GE. The family man is the back bone of society and when you mess with that dynamic by listening to the likes of Hubbards “The Family Man is A GE” you will only harm yourself and others by snapping theta lines. Have you any idea of the pain and heart ache you have caused others?
The effect of that is now in your body.
The anger and violence that you express is causing your health to be compromised. When you express anger, hate and violence your blood pressure rises, constricts blood vessels and dumps toxins into your system. Then you look to Scotch and exercise to handle your stress. But the Scotch will only cause your body to become more toxic because hard alcohol on a consistent basis will destroy your brain cells and liver.
You are sick because of the violence that you have perpetrated on others. And every act of hate and violence in the name of “saving the planet” is locked up in your own body causing cellular inharmony
YOU CREATED THAT ENERGY AND IT IS NOW TAKING IT’S TOLL ON YOUR BODY.
Why does your face go red when you are violent? Your body is exploding on the inside and your heart is over working.
Try to realize Dave that you have been following writings that give you authority to harm people in the name of helping humanity. You can never ever change what is happening. Your PR is toast. Scientology’s PR is toast.
You can thank Bolivar, Fair Game, Disconnection and being validated by Ron himself when you were young, to be violent.
No doctor can save you if your problem is you. You looked gaunt in the last photos we all saw.
Every act of hate and violence is spring loaded to snap back to you. And every person who is acting out your violent orders to harm others will experience the same fate as you.
They will be hounded by their conscience for the harm they brought into other’s lives. And maybe the law.
When you are alone at night and there is no one else around, you know what I am talking about.
This puppy is going south bud. How do you want it to go? You will be experiencing lawsuits the likes of which you never knew.
What you have done to others is about to be done to you. Except legally, through the courts. It’s a tsunami heading your way.
Maybe you should start believing in God again. That’s about the only dynamic that will afford you mercy for the pain you have inflicted on others.
May you find happiness and wellbeing Dave. May you find the real Power that has created life. That power God, the 8th dynamic is real. Seek that. It’s where you can find answers and start to unravel what happened to you. You have become a monster in the eyes of the world. You have played the role of black hat.
2015 will be a heavy blow. Try to change your course.

Disagreeing with Ron or being critical of Scientology or Scientologists or being a squirrel were in the same catagory as Pretty Boy Floyd and Hitler in old school.
That is because Scientologist were sold on Ron and Scientology being the only way to free mankind.
That makes anyone who disagrees or tries to bring out the truth about Ron or Scientology into an enemy of mankind. And thus an SP.
The old GO probably thought an anti Scientologist to be worse than Pretty Boy Floyd because and anti Scientologist is attempting to harm all the people of earth from being free. Pretty Boy Floyd just killed a few people.
This association was in force before Micsavige and led to horrible violence against people.

Well Mike, I’m glad to know that David Miscavige and the Church of Scientology are officially part of the club of infamous repressive groups of history. Here is a reminder from history for the Pope and his henchmen:
Pope Pius VI: Edict over the Hebrew
(Editto sopra gli ebrei)
Pope Pius VI, in his campaign against liberalism, issued an anti-Jewish proclamation reinstating all previous anti-Jewish legislation in 1775 called Editto sopra gli ebrei, “Edict over the Hebrew.” The edict stood for 25 years, until the arrival of Napoleon’s army.
________________________________________
The Editto is made up of 24 clauses, most notably:
1. A Jew who passes a night outside of the ghetto is condemned to death.
2. The “yellow sign” must also be carried also within the town-walls of the ghetto (up to now the Jews only had to carry it when they left the ghetto).
3. The study of the Talmud is forbidden.
4. The funeral cortei are forbidden.
5. The sale is forbidden to the Christians of bread, meat and milk
6. It is forbidden to hold stores outside of the ghetto.
7. It is forbidden to have domestic Christians, therefore also to that is use of the so-called “women of the fire” (the women that went in into Jewish homes to light fire on Shabbat).
8. Relations with the Christian neighbors are forbidden.
9. Christian silversmiths are forbidden to make lamps of seven arms (Menorah) for ritual use.
10. It is forbidden to invite the Christians in the synagogue.
11. It is forbidden to the Christians to enter in the synagogue.
12. It is forbidden to guide wagons to Rome or in the vicinities.
13. The rabbis are thought responsible of the frequency to the coattive prediche.
14. The income in the churches and the monasteries is not to be given to Jews.
15. It is forbidden to approach itself the “House of the Catecumeni.”

As you noted, it got worse. I do remember a former scientologist told me, not too long ago, that he ended leaving when he realized he was worried by what he was ‘thinking’ as, if it were to come up in session, he was unsure of how his thoughts would be qualified; either get and acknowledgment or a trip to ethics.
The point here is this was early 90’s. Since then some public, and for sure some staff, were concerned about their thoughts on how management was changing. This is about 24 years ago.
And, as commented before, also in the late 90s – in general staff at FSO knew that if COB was doing an inspection you better don’t be on his way as there were 98% chances you will be removed from post or even RPF’d if he, for whatever reason, happened to talk to you.
No exaggeration; in fact it happened to a staff that turned the other way to avoid meeting COB (for the above concern), he was seen, taken to an ‘interview’ by RTC and send to the RPF, just like that.
And why many staff and public kept going despite the sociopath? Maybe because personally each one had an honest reason to help or do something good for another. But whatever the reason is we may dare to say that honest and well intentioned people can not be killed even if you ‘disconnect’ from them.
In other words, disconnection does not handle anything, is just the excuse of a coward when aware that, in fact, he can’t handle individuals unless fear and terror are utilized. Sociopathic mechanism.

Recently I went to a family event and it was quite amusing to see how my “in” relatives jumped through hoops to give me the “air treatment”. Same thing with my adult kids. So now, apparently it is not just the SP but also close relatives and friends of the SP that must be avoided contact by all means. Everything in that context is shrinking. The “expanded disconnection policy” is not exactly winning any hearts and souls, that’s for sure.
Funny thing was my “in” relatives didn’t fool anybody. Everybody were polite but astutely aware of the stunts being pulled and quite amused by the shenanigans.
John Doe says
Great post Mike! Thanks for rerunning it. It is even more relevant than when first published.
I want to comment on the Code of Honor itself.
When I read to Code of Honor now, it is evident to me that points 2, 3, and 12 are actually boobytraps that can nullify the application of the rest of the points of the code.
For example, if one is applying point #6 about not compromising one’s reality, and stating to an MAA that the church and its leadership has completely lost its way, the MAA can admonish you for deserting a group to which you owe your support (since “your debt to Scientology and LRH can never be fully paid”).
Thus, these three points, 2, 3, and 12 can be used to deflate anyone who might be getting too puffed up with self-determinism from their use of this lofty code.
If you stop and think about it, you can see how the code itself has checks and balances within it to prevent any individual from using this Code of Honor to rise very far above the bank-dominated mob.
Additionally, points 9 and 10 are very dark grey areas to me, as they could be used to motivate simple-minded or over-zealous church members to do such things as break into government buildings after hours or even possibly to “go Waco” against authorities showing up at the Int Base to arrest Miscavage.
Point 1, about not deserting a comrade, could also be so used, if you’re talking about “scientology’s most important comrade”, David Miscavage.
(BTW, I think point 10 should correctly read, “Your integrity to yourself is more important than your life.”)
Mike Rinder says
I agree with you about this. Like virtually everything else in scientology, there are contradictions. And room for a great deal of abuse. You can interpret things differently and assert the rightness of what you are doing on the basis of “this is what LRH said.” In truth, the only value in something is whether it HELPS.
The apparently benign concept of “the greatest good for the greatest number of dynamics” is used to justify and even motivate horrible abuses of people. So too “never fear to hurt another in a just cause.”
Joe Pendleton says
I think what has to be understood about actual life in the Church of Scientology is that almost all LRH writings/ideas exist with a dual nature. That is to say, how one applies it from one’s own viewpoint to better conditions in life and how it is ALLOWED to be practiced or IS practiced within Scientology itself. As an example, stay above 2.0 on the Tone Scale. When has a staff member EVER heard that point made OR PRACTICED in the “real world” of an org? Same with most points in the Code of Honor. When confronted by a teenage MAA on my last (THANKFULLY!) ethics cycle who demanded to know how much money I had in the bank (he thought I should turn it over to the church to handle my downgraded ethics status), I told him I was applying the Code of Honor as it was not a communication I wished to deliver to him. He screamed that I had withholds. I told him I felt I had the right as a Scientologist to apply the Code and he screamed “SHUT UP! THAT’S ENEMY LINE!” At that point, I had a sudden realization that after over 35 years of working in Scientology, my time in the CoS had just ended. (The “twilight zone” of that current life in Scientology became THAT immediately clear to me and I knew I would leave and not come back).
You can find many points in the Code that you would NEVER be allowed to apply in the CoS – never compromise with your own reality? Ha ha ha ha. Apply from Personal Integrity what is true for you is what is true? Ha ha ha ha ha. EVER hear of an exec in an org tell his juniors to actually APPLY IN EVERYDAY LIFE (with staff or public) the ARC Triangle, the Comm Cycle or other Scientology basics like the Auditors’s Code (I know, I know, no evel/inval/no getting angry are just for auditing, NEVER apply them in LIFE). I’ve offered up just a few examples here. I could give HUNDREDS of LRH datums that one would never be allowed to “live” in the Church of Scientology itself. To my knowledge, no staff has ever been told to drill the ARC Triangle in handling public, but instead we’ve had decades of drilling mind control crap like Big League Sales. Just another of the many complete contradictions of life in Scientology.
Mike Rinder says
Excellent comment Joe. I agree with you 100%
I even had some concern about reposting this post as I now find it difficult to give much credence to communication that is predicated on “here is an LRH quote that makes the point.” It’s such a telltale of the unthinking, uncritical, blind acceptance of “source” that is the hallmark of a fundamentalist that it worried me because I don’t ever want to come off that way again.
But I decided I was really using those quotes to show how scientologists should be acting, not to try to assert my rightness and superior intellect because I have a longer LRH quote than the next guy.
Things inside scientology really run contrary to so much of what scientology claims to be based on that it is a sort of endless stream of cognitive dissonance.
I appreciate your contributions here. They are thoughtful and add to the conversation.
Doug Parent says
” Like virtually everything else in scientology, there are contradictions. And room for a great deal of abuse.” When people such as yourself Mike make statements like this, it is validating and I think it also empowers others to look for themselves. Thank you for todays blog posting in particular. So many people throw the baby out with the bathwater, and that does not fully correct the scene either. But I am convinced the scene will never be corrected fully by anyone who blindly accepts the premise that everything in Scientology is correct and 100% workable. I feel empathy and compassion for my old friends still inside, still willingly blind and still in a precarious position where living their lives openly in the light and in the truth is not possible. I know it is popular with some to denigrate Scientologists, and yes certainly they are duped, but they are people of good will and intentions. I still love all my old friends and wish them well. They are on the path out of the church of Scientology, they just don’t know it yet. It is a matter of gradient steps that will lead inevitably to their “last straw” event. People are basically good, and when they discover for themselves what damage the church has actually caused OTHERS, then those good instincts will take over and eventually they will come to their senses. The most ardent robots will stay till the end. Leaving the church is a step UP in awareness, a step UP in responsibility, and a step up in integrity. From the inside it looks just the opposite. Many are leaving. Perhaps it might be interesting to really find out Why for yourself.

The Code of Honor was something that inspired me while in Scientology but the “unreasonable” and robotic application of Hubbards more severe, black and white policies that destroyed countless thousands of marriages and friendships were why I left. The Code of Honor is very useful on paper but in todays Scientology you only get into trouble trying to apply it. It’s a good example why I keep saying the entire subject needs the total reformation and because it cannot, it must be allowed to die on it’s own. Let others pick up whatever pieces are useful in the aftermath and bury the rest quietly and without sorrow.

Thank you so much for re-posting this, Mike.
The Thought Police are alive and well in the Cult. There are many good and decent people who have disconnected from their loved ones because of these ridiculous, stupid, SP declares.
Two of my girlfriends have been declared and had their children disconnect from them. They are two of the kindest and most gracious people on this Earth. Hardly SP’s per LRH’s definition. They are in absolute agony at the loss of their children. I believe with all of my heart and soul that their children will return to them one day.
This Cult is on it’s last legs. I will not ever submit to the belief that their agony is forever…or for you with your children. It is all crashing down and if we saw the light and made it out, so can they. I will never, ever, stop believing this. I am not “going on hoping” as what’s his name said, I keep a positive attitude, look at the history of cults (the Third Reich comes to mind, watch History Channel The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich), and know that the will be home with their family one day.

Scientologist’s have to think with those thoughts implanted by LRH to survive the best.
A Sea Org Slave will use the quote of a “True Group Member”.
A newbie will use “We of the Church believe” because it is what most people want. It makes sense and it gives the ILLUSION that you are joining an ethical group that helps you think for yourself.
It is part of the bait and switch. You think you will be supported by this group to think for yourself.
A Sea Orger knows better. They would never survive and it causes a lot of pain. (cognitive dissonance).
They know that in order to survive – they must be a “True Group Member” and have no thoughts of their own.

I wanted to wish everyone here a very Happy Holiday Season. This is a very apt Redux today as I reflect over the past year plus.
It was a year ago from last May that I walked out of the MAA office Flag. That was the best and worst day of my life: I finally stood up for myself and against what I believed what had become a very abusive religion run by a sociopath, but that was also the day my family fell apart.
From that point, I have continued to fight for my family and to get it back in tact. In the interim I have discovered some VERY GOOD friends, and I have discovered (even though I have had my moments of regret) that I did the right thing and through all the struggles and travails I am proud of myself and those who have stood up against this horrible church.
I want to thank so many of you for standing behind me and your well wishes and support.
A wonderful family reunion in 2015 is what I wish all of us here who have lost family or loved ones because of the dictates of this church and thank you, Mike, for all you do toward this aim.
Cheers!

Mary — I know its been a tough road for you.
But for our selfish selves in the Rinder household, we gained a wonderful new friend. And we are so happy for that! 🙂
McCarran says
Thank you Mike. I appreciate your kind words and your and Christie’s friendship very much.

Mike, this is one of the very best articles you have ever done. I blew so much charge reading it. And I’m glad you included the LRH article on The AntiSocial Personality. Just reading that showed DM to be the very thing LRH was writing about. And the very things LRH warned against are happening right now before our very eyes. This article needs to be in blue highlight on the right side of your blog as a “Must Read” reference. It points out what is happening in our church right now and your writing is so incisive with its cut-to-the-quick truth.
I am living what you wrote about. I got declared for thinking “bad thoughts” and for daring to read the internet in search of the truth. My kids were turned against me so that they disconnected from me on my birthday. I hope we are reunited in 2015.
What you wrote is so true that as more and more good people are expelled, the only ones left are the robotic hard core Kook Aid drinking lock steppers who are so PTS that they are fully in the suppressive valence and are busy suppressing others right and left. Mike, you really told it like it is on this article. Thank you and post it for everyone to re-read many times.

I thought for a moment that you said “selfish elves”. 🙂
Merry Christmas.

Cindy,
I think 2015 is going to be a pivotal year for Scn (and for all of us). My gut tells me a tipping point has been reached. There’s just too much momentum and there is very little the church can do to stop it. That means more and more are going to be voting with their feet. So, don’t be surprised if your kids are among them. It WILL happen eventually.

Mare,
Read my comment I just posted. There will be a reckoning and it will be in your favor. I believe this will all of my heart. I love you. Steph

Yes Thank you Statpush. From your mouth to God’s ears. And Karma is a bitch and all that stuff. Thank you for your postulates that I am reunited with my kids.

Merry Christmas Mary. Time is on our side now.

Mary, yes it is painful. Of that there is no doubt. Extricating one’s self from the essence of what has been one’s spiritual ‘home’, does tend to pull attention on the present losses, though I’m certain those are just a temporary state of affairs. 🙂
De Church of DMadne$$ is crumbling! When that happens, the hitherto blinkered sheeple, will emerge from de mind-control. Your patience will be fulfilled, with the realization of your wishes.
Have a blessed Christmas.

Thank you Calvin and same to you.

Mary,
My heart breaks for you, but perhaps it needn’t… Losing one’s children, albeit TEMPORARILY, is designed to be crushing and you have not been crushed! You are such a strong, wonderful person that you provide inspiration not to only me, but also to your other family here on Mike’s Blog.
I lost a spouse to scientology, really more like was emancipated from him, and I lost one child, not precisely through disconnection although he’d been in scientology. He decided to “disown” me when I was no more willing to support his meth addiction than I had been his involvement with scientology. Nevertheless, I have so much for which to be thankful. I kept my younger son out of scientology and I knew enough to never make any friends who were involved, so my loss is NOTHING compared to yours and so many others’ losses, but I passionately believe that most people will be able to joyfully reconnect with lost friends and family in the new year. That is my hope/prayer for you and Mike and for everyone else who has lost friends and family through the barbarity of cult of scientology.

I was actually replying to your earlier post which began, “I want to wish everyone…” Alas, there was no reply button, thus I had to reply where I did.
McCarran says
Thank you Delilah. I appreciate your response to me very much. With so many of us wishing or praying for the truth to prevail and families and loved ones reunited, it truly is only a matter (of a very small amount) of time.
I too believe in the power of truth and real love.

That is an Excellent Poster for Scientology Mike – it says it all.
I think we should be damn proud to be Declared SP’s by the Cult of Scientology!
It is just the RIGHT THING TO DO, BE and HAVE!
Get Declared by speaking the truth – DO.
Continue to Suppress Scientology until there is no one left – BE
Get yourself a nifty Goldenrod and share it with everyone you know – HAVE the SP Declare.
What this all means is that you have some ability to see Clearly, think Clearly and make your own choices based on common sense.
Awesome post!
DollarMorgue says
But scientology is running a can’t have on goldenrods. How do you make that go right?
😉
Idle Morgue says
Oh come on now Dollar Morgue – You simply just MOCK it up!!
We are at cause, remember? Don’t ever forget that it is US – the SP’s that make things go right!! The proof is in the fact that Scientology has failed and is losing. We are winning!!
Now let’s do a drill. Ready, start!
Create it – the SP Declare. Okay good. Now – throw it away. Good! Then.,..Create it again and shove it up Miscaviges ass!! Thank you. Now make him eat it- Oh, I like that!! That is a PASS – very well done!!
LOL

Miscavige liked it. Hmm…
