There’s something extraordinary about RB’s ability to marry everyday, casual horror with cutting observational commentary and comedy. He really is brilliant.
I’m a grandfather. And it’s the greatest thing I could be! My little guy will be three on 9 August. When others see him, they think he’s much older due to his size.

Wow. I never thought I’d be a grandmother of any kind. I thought “aunt” would be the most I could do. Suddenly, this year, I find out I’m a mom, not just a stepmom, and I find out I’m likely to be a side grandma, and it’s not even May yet! A side grandma would be a cool thing to be.
Also, I think I’ll change my name here to something more amusing and apropos of the main subject: Abby Ration.
When I was in, I remember the great division between staff member pay and FSM’s. In one week, Miami hired a new staff member and I do remember him walking out of the org after getting $1.72 for a full week of work. But in the meantime I received over a thousand dollars for the week for a few hours of work as an FSM. The hidden money line in Scientology seems to the FSM’s. It seemed to me that the more dedication you had to Scientology, the greater screwing you took.
I’m curious about the FSM thing George. When I was in I was never an FSM and when I signed up for any ‘services’ I always dealt directly with a ‘reg’.
It seems to me that being an FSM is a two edged sword. On one hand there was some money to be made, but on the other hand the “church” automatically knows how much money you have just received from them and would perhaps want to get that money back by signing you up for your next step on the bridge to nowhere. As an FSM and dedicated KSW scientologist it would be difficult to say that you wanted to use your FSM commission for a new sports car, investment, retirement account, vacation, or even regular bills. Even if one is an OT VIII, 3Ls, SuperDooper Power, Cause Resurgence 3x and trained to GAT II whatever, there is always another IAS ‘status’ to cough up cash for or a shadowy front group to support. In scientology it’s ALWAYS about the money. Them getting your money and nothing else.

Yo Dave,
Howz about a pair of new John Loeb’s good buddy? That’s always a good cause because we know you stunk up the last pair.
Well said George. It’s not easy contemplating the inequality. Scientology preys on dedication like a parasite, sucking its host dry. The really insane part is the mechanism of Scientology itself, apart from financially devastating its parishioners it has actually has had some of its members die by destitution and neglect under their auspices and doesn’t care in the slightest. The fact it offloads anyone who is determined enough to actually ‘want a family life.’ Love is a crime in Scientology and they DO punish you for it!
In my pre 1982 Scn days I worked at a mission for about a year and six months at an org. I don’t recall signing any work contracts and I was able to take any of the courses they offered for free without accumulating a freeloaders debt. I’m not sure how that worked other than when I went to LA to do an internship or other training I paid for it myself so I wouldn’t owe them money they had advanced for me.
“Maybe… right time to be a grandparent is when you have grandchildren.” 🙂 The truth and simplicity of that line…. 🙂
Heh! Maybe the right time to be a compassionate human being is when you are one. Oh wait! It’s way more important to Clear the Planet or raise money for an Ideal Org and be a scientologist.
Hmm …. I just got an idea. If it’s true they aren’t allowed to set foot on an SP’s property, maybe one of us could announce we were happy to be an SP and then we could create a sanctuary where people who wanted to blow could just come by and stay with us?
There would be some details to work out. But if someone can protect people who want to blow just by announcing they are SPs, could that become an effective way to protect them?
MY SELF DECLARATION OF BEING A SP TO THE COS AND THEIR ABUSIVE/CRIMINAL PRACTICES WORLDWIDE
I am long haul trucker and drive all interstate highways within the USA. I could be anywhere at any time and by just by being on the interstate you could have been near me. You must turn yourself in as being PTS, and get your seccheck.
I was 48 states driving for Bekins Van Line. And I gotta tell ya, I had the time of my life! I got to see the country from the ground up. I even worked with the Santini Brothers in the Bronx. Pretty sure they were mobbed up.
I drove by the place where we were going to move. (It was in Manhattan) There was absolutely no parking. None. I figured I’d have to move my rig every time a tenet wanted their car.
I went back to the Santini Brothers and told them I’d be sleeping in my rig. Mr. Santini said, “They’ll kill ya kid! They’ll kill ya and take your rig!” Their office was in the Bronx.
Nothing happened during the night. When I drove to where the pick up was, there was 175 feet of white space. There was a man there saying, your not going to park here. When he saw me, he packed up and left. I was never able to thank them. But, the mob took care of me! I had 155 ft of of truck with 175 ft staring at me. I’ll never forget that day.
Decades ago two young women we knew got themselves a “hot dog truck”. They did ok locally, but decided they’d hit “the big city”.
Well, they parked quite near a well establish food truck whose owner was NOT happy about having competition. These young ladies sold only hot dogs, soda, chips etc. The OTHER food truck owner was selling many other options in the food range but NOT hot dogs.
This food truck owner warned them about parking their hot dog truck where it was…in what was back then & might or might not be “the mob territory”. They left their truck parked there a few nights in a row as they travelled back and forth from their home. . One day as then arrived at where they’d had their truck parked for two week, they found their truck GONE, not a trace.
The Police were called & would not do anything to help them because they were NOT licensed to sell food in that area. The truck was never found despite their visit to the police impound area. Seems the food truck owner who’d worked that corner for years, “didn’t know a thing”…..nice Italian fella.
In Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods, there is a wire hung around the perimeter, called an eruv. It patricians the enclosed community into a single symbolic private space, getting around biblical restrictions of carrying things between the public and private domains during the sabbath. You wouldn’t notice it if you weren’t looking for it.
In any case, I think this may be a good model for some kind of SP-powered geo-fencing against dedicated Scientology invader forces.
Hey Skyler,
I like your idea.
A Sanctuary for blown Sea Org members.
We could call it “SP-Anon” 🙂
Or
In that Sea Org members who leave the Sea Org for ANY reason are labeled “DBs” (short for “Degraded Beings”) we could call the place “DB-Anon” 🙂
I looked in to that myself locally. It’s a major task to get “approval” to run anything like a “safe house”. There are restrictions on where it could be i.e. business or residential. Many people do NOT want anything like that in “their neighborhood” as in “NIMBY “Not In My Back Yard”. Getting approval for a women’s domestic violence shelter took a good long time here.
There is also an issue with what might be consider “transient people” coming and going all hours of the day and night & having numerous people “floating in an out” or simply hanging around all day & not working. The other issue would be their “Blow Drill Team” coming around an harassing the neighborhood property owners.
There would be restrictions on how many people, room size, health inspections for safety such as meeting fire codes, wiring plumbing, heating/ventilation, bathrooms for number of people, equipment in kitchen & food safety. INSURANCE in case someone falls on the property or there’s a fire etc. Add to that the cost of beds, dressers, pillow cases, sheets, blankets, towels, wash clothes, & the need for a washer and clothes dryer, pots/pans, dishes, silverware, bake ware, cookie sheets, cake pans, all kinds of kitchen utensils, furniture for the entire house like kitchen table, sofa, chairs.
The other task would be finding these people jobs with their limited education & work history. Transportation to employment isn’t easy either if the community has no bus or taxi service, and then there is the MONEY ISSUE to keep all of it going. WHERE is the money to come from….the IRS sure isn’t going to pick up the tab. Got to have a ton of money & get approval to even begin something like that….
Add to that the cost of as noted the insurance, heat, water, electric. general repairs and FOOD. For health reasons the kitchen would need to pass muster if it’s to be used as a safe house…can’t prepare feed people in a dirty unhealthy kitchen
Well, Balletlady, you’ve done your research on safe houses, that’s for sure. I get it on everything and agree.
So the solution is not an an official Sanctuary but a number of private homes with owners willing to take these people in – for a while.
As to “finding them jobs” I don’t see that as necessarily part of the deal. We are talking, after all, about ex-Sea org members. These people will have been used to working a minimum of 60 hours a week.
They will have been habituated to an extremely regimented, disciplined life. They may not have official work experience or job training, but ONE thing they’ll DEFINITELY understand and be VERY comfortable with is the concept of working hard, long hours! What we out here in normal society would consider hard menial work with low pay will be like a VACATION for them with extraordinary pay.
They’ll find jobs doing SOMETHING while they stay in someone’s home being fed, clothed and housed for free.
Nobody’s going to pump their lungs so they can breathe.
Give them a bed and some food and some peace and quiet, and quiet understanding, and support with transportation, and navigating the system to get themselves established as working members of society, and let them figure out their OWN lives.
If they have the guts to blow the Sea Org, or the fortitude to withstand the gruelling pressure of routing out properly, then they have what it takes to figure out their own lives.
Unless they money, or have relatives or children or friends who’ll take them in, the elderly, disabled ex-Sea Org who leave or get booted out for medical conditions will have to go into public nursing homes, just like everyone else in this country who is poor, old, disabled, family-less and friend-less.
