Last night Leah and I did a livestream YouTube video about the Masterson sentencing hearing Leah had attended earlier in the day.
Here are the documents we mentioned:
Jane Doe 1 Mother’s Letter to Miscavige
You can also find this, and a glossary of terms at Leah’s Substack:
For those who don’t want to read the entire 70 page document, here is a redacted summary of key points:
WPZ says
Mike, what do you think about Ashton and Mila writing letters of support for DM? I read that others did as well, mostly people connected to CoS thru marriage/being members themselves like G Ribisi, Billy Baldwin etc. But Ashton and Mila— despite their gratitude for DM keeping them “on the straight and narrow” re: drugs during that 70’s show— seems like a strange choice for their obvious support of him now. Maybe bc Ashton has all that $ from his investments he is able to just do whatever without consequence financially? Idk but it doesn’t seem like a good look, what with #metoo in Hollywood.
MMK says
The letters had major inch-wives energy for me.
Multiple mentions of showing up at graduation ceremonies, being so anti-drug, etc, and they just have a feeling of coming from a single voice (at least to me). In a reddit thread about Chrissie Bixler’s instagram stories where she’s posting about the letters, there is discussion of possible blackmail being involved in getting some of these people to write their letters, and I’m now wondering how true that could be…

One thing that also stood out was their praise of Masterson donating to post 9/11 victims. Sounds like he put that money into Scientology to me. I’d love to hear Mike’s opinion here as well.
WPZ says
Looking good, Mike! Any idea where DM will be sent to prison (long term)? I think he is in LA county jail for now but don’t they move people once convicted and sentenced? I would imagine he would be in administrative segregation there like he is now.
Mike Rinder says
Sorry, no idea.
Alex de Valera says
It is so great to hear what you both have to say. We all love and admire you. Thank you for being at the front line.
Dawn Whitty says
I was reading the character reference letters over at Tony’s site and I can’t believe that they paint such a different picture of the man we have come to know through the trial. It’s telling that Wilmer Valderama did not write one.
WPZ says
My teen daughter is horrified that Ashton & Mila wrote in support.
Dawn Whitty says
Understandable.
Phillip says
I think he comes across as a nice fun guy among his peers, but as a martinet/bully once he thinks he’s got the power position or the upper hand.
I have to remind myself that no matter how rotten a person is – somehow they will have friends. Even Hitler had friends.
Mary Kahn says
I was thinking of Ted Bundy myself. Charming, good looking guy I’m sure could have had many letters of support about what a great guy he was. I’m sure he could have been part of women’s advocacy groups, maybe been a counselor to rape victims, been an upstanding member of a church. You hear this crap all the time.
An abuser speaking out against people who abuse could get many support letters.
Ryanna says
Did Laura Prepon write one? She left Scientology in 2016.
