Today marks the first month of the existence of this blog, and I looked over the statistics of these first 30 days. I thought some of you may be interested and in order to refine the content I also include a short survey that I would appreciate you responding to.
In the first month 10,500 different people have visited, or about 1800 per day on average. Just as a comparison, Ruth Eckerd Hall where Miscavige holds his events in Clearwater, seats 2180.
These people have visited 56,904 times.
Altogether 147,931 pages of information have been read.
It’s a good start. I am sure a lot more people will visit if the content is geared to what is helpful and most informative.
In alignment with that, I would appreciate it if you would answer a few simple questions. Your identity will remain confidential (or not, as you wish).

Thank you for doing this blog Mike. I like to see people announcing their independence from DM’s Church. I like it when you expose their abusive behavior (e.g. financial and forcing disconnection). I really want to see DM no longer in power in the Church, whether that is him being removed or blowing or the parishners waking up and no longer agreeing to drink the kool aid. I want the tech available in the field so that others can have the wins that LRH intended with the application of standard Scientology.

RE: this blog
I appreciate this blog because it offers the raw data regarding the church, which I am still interested in following. I have been a reader/blogger on Marty’s site for several years now, and I still like it. However, I do want to get all the info I can on what is really going on in the church. I think everyone is pretty much flat on simply talking about DM as an individiual,(how much more can one say about the idiot) but his actions and the staff/public actions/reactions are still note worthy as they have morphed the church in an insidioius fashion. I know I get the truth from this blog and it is good to compare truth with fantasy. It helps when attempting to enlighten people.

Mike,
Congratulations on some pretty fantastic stats.
I love the “hard news” from your blog on the Ideal Orgs, the very much stepped up IAS regging, the Library Campaign, all this “straight dono” crap. I have hated these things from the moment they started up in the RCS. In fact, I silently loathed them way before I learned that they were off-policy!
I check in here with you at least once a day and frequently twice, so thanks for this continual outpouring of truthful data written with wit, intelligence and a type of humor that always gets me chuckling. Great read, Mike 🙂

I think you’re on a great path with this blog. You have an penchant to uncover the obvious deceptions but then take it a step further and give us the insider viewpoint of what is probably going on behind the scenes. E.g. Columbia PR lies – probably a result of DM randomly ordering PR releases and not caring whether they are actually based on truth or fiction in an attempt to throw attention of the drones elsewhere. The stuff you had to deal with during your stint working with the Dark Lord.

Mike – a note in some haste – just wanted to say that your stats are evidence that there are more people who are interested in what you (and some special correspondents) have to say, than in attending the bum-numbing, flying-arrow shows! So what is the difference? You carry credibility with ease!

My first read in the morning is your and Mr. Ortega’s blog.
Since David Miscavige is the source of corporate Scientology’s current insane policies and programmes, exposing him is the correct target. There are plenty of other blogs & message boards which analyse Mr. Hubbard’s legacy. The highest priority at present is ending the destructive activities of Mr. Miscavige.
The factual, analytical and well-reasoned content of your articles is very much appreciated.

Mike,
Great job on the blog, keep up the good work.
I think one thing everyone who frequents this blog has in common is that they are trying to answer this question: What went wrong?
The majority of us have received some benefit from applying LRH tech and care about the subject of Scientology. To see organized Scn go so far off the rails can be heartbreaking. I, for one, want to know “Where did it all go wrong?” To even begin to answer that question you need to look at a lot of data – a lot; from many different viewpoints. Your blog is a vital resource in providing those viewpoints.
Theo Sismanides says
Dear Mike,
Congrats on the blog. What you are doing was a standard action by Marty and then got dropped out. And IT IS something needed and wanted as it keeps us constantly informed.
I think what unites and interests people is
1. The Technology of Scientology and moving up
2. The abuses of the church under David Miscavige.
I think those two things are the most important things that keep us united. The second one is an Ethics point. It has to do with securing the existence of Scientology which to a big degree has been jeopardised by the abuses of one name David Miscavige. So, I am all ears on this and what is happening with that man and his minions and I would like to know more.
On the other hand my personal interest is the Tech and seeing people winning. So, the Indies.
There are many blogs now where one can find different things happening. My intention has always been to work with 3dynamics and the Admin Tech. I think your blog contributes to that big time as it keeps us updated and gives us inside information which we couldn’t have.
Congratulations one more time.

Mike, I think your blog is off to a great start. In my opinion, you correctly spotted a true need for its existence, and I’m glad you took the responsibility upon yourself to put it here. It’s fast becoming one of the premier go-to spots on the internet for cult related news and information. I also think it was a very smart move to invite ‘special correspondents’ to send in tips and reports which you can turn into articles. No doubt, you’ve had an avalanche of on-the-ground reports pouring in. Brilliant.
As others have stated, this blog has become one of my daily ‘must read’ destinations. I normally land here right after checking breaking national and world news. I then check the iScientology blog and a couple of Indie Facebook pages after that. Altogether, it’s a fertile and lively network of communication channels that is sorely lacking within the cult. Thank you for helping to make that happen.

It’s hard to believe it’s only been one month. Seeing you’ve had 10,500 unique visitors and only 450+ have”declared independence” from the C of S, looks like there are quite a few on the sidelines researching and getting educated. From what I’ve seen so far, and certainly the stats support it, it looks like you’re on top of what people are interested in.

Many people who got into Scientology in the late 60′s and early 70′s (myself included) were promised the world and more. We gave up having children, buying houses, persuing more profitable careers, putting off saving for retirement . . . probably most of the people on these Scientology blogs fall into that group. We’ve all sacrificed our entire lifetimes for the promises of OT8 (per the early 70′s grade chart not the current EP) and then later on the non-existent OT9-15 levels.
What’s the back story? Why did management cover up LRH’s apparent failure to deliver on many of his more hyperbolic OT promises . . . and from what I can tell even achieve them himself? Why lie to all of us from 1986 on? Seems like there was an enormous conspiracy of silence and a forwarding of a patently untrue LRH mythology. The lies told were an unthinkable betrayal.
Why doesn’t anyone ever shoot straight about all this? This isn’t too much to ask. Just tell what you know.
Certainly there are ex-SO upper management (like yourself) who could answer directly and honestly about all this. I feel we’re all owed that much after chasing after the dangling “upper OT level” carrot for most of our entire lives. Otherwise, all I have to fall back on is Sarge’s comments in Wright. And Sarge was a long-trusted friend of LRH and has no reason to lie. And I know Sarge is a truthful guy. That’s his undeniable nature.
I hope you don’t see this post as an effort to upset you or anyone. Not at all. It’s a question any intelligent, thoughtful person would ask, should ask after investing his/her entire lifetime in the quest for a more fully knowing immortality, return in the future with memory, and other advanced state capabilities.
And yes, I did make gains. (Old OT7, new OT7, Class 5 XDN with thousands of hours of chair time.) Just not all that I was promised back then. I wish I knew then . . . what I know now. I would have lived my life a bit differently.
Mike Rinder says
Forever — Marty’s books and blog have covered this pretty extensively. There was a hidden data line inside the church too. I was not aware that these materials didnt exist until after I left.
Miscavige wanted them so he would have a carrot to hold out. But he also could NOT afford to say “Sorry folks, I know LRH said OT IX and X were ready and there was a Grade Chart with OT X1 to XV on it, but they don’t exist” as it would have caused a revolt. In order to maintain his position he has had to pretend to be fully in alignment with LRH and the ONE carrying out his wishes and intention. It has been a slow process to convince the masses that he is the new Messiah. And now it is valuable to him to appear to have something that people want but cannot have “yet”…
Forever Lurker says
“There was a hidden data line inside the church too.

Fair enough, Mike. Thanks for your reply.
That said, I’m glad I got the gains I did and I’ll keep them. No one can take those back from me. I’ll just not fret about what I didn’t get or what didn’t happen. Life goes on.
Chris from Germany says
In Martys book “WIWWS” I´ve read it for the first time that there was no OT IX or even further OT levels and it somehow shocked me. I have no need at all to disbelief Marty, meaning I trust that what he says or writes is absolutely true for him and I don´t have a problem to follow his idea that after OT VIII there was no need for being further guided / having more levels to go.
Still I have my doubts – since this would mean that I could not trust RON who said the materials were there. It´s hard enough to distinguish if Pat Broeker was lying at the event after Rons death or not. And of course it is easier to prove that things are there, when things are there, than to prove that they are not there, when they are not there (since they still could be hidden). But what makes YOU so SURE that there are no further materials? Did you e.g. talk to Pat Broeker and heard him confess to you that he was lying those days, or sth similar? Of course you might have a certainty from data and/or perceptions which might not easily be explained to others – but if you had something to share about things that proof it, I´d be happy to get those data. It´s just that I had some problem with RON, if… Ron was human, I know, and he was not always right. But, as I understand his character, his favourite overt was not consciously lying about technical things. If he said there were materials, then I really could believe that they are no more, but hard to believe for me that thed´d never existed. Getting me? Data to help me on this?
Mike Rinder says
Chris — there is no fast and easy response to this. Perhaps Marty’s next book will shed even more light on it. But there are some FACTS you can observe for yourself and don’t require any sort of hidden data line (whether from Miscavige or Broeker or Marty or me…).
1. In the real world, there is NO OT IX and X available for anyone to do. It has not been released. Miscavige hasnt tried to offer the excuse that it cannot be delivered because a new building is needed (like he has done with Super Power — a total bs “reason” only designed to make money, not “clear the planet”).
2. The repeated “reason” for no OT IX and X was “all orgs have to be Ideal first.” You don’t even hear this any longer. Now all orgs have to be Ideal to “Clear the Planet”.
3. Today, there is virtually no mention of OT IX and X by anyone, starting with Miscavige. Believe me, if he could be hyping it, he would. Just look at Super Power — it’s been being hyped for more than a decade and its still going.
Draw your own conclusions from this.
Forever Lurker says
OK Mike, here’s a clue to what I know for a fact.
The excerpt below is from an email written by a life career top FSM around two years ago. The individual, an OT8, older, and very motivated to do more auditing this lifetime, flew to the Freewinds and apparently pressed them about when these upper OT levels were going to be released, and this is what the FSM came back with and distributed broadly in an email to selectees. This seems like an obvious attempt (though transparent to us) by Int management (DM) to take back ALL previous promises and expectations. Take this as official as it can get. The source of this email is very reliable. Excerpt from the FSM’s email to his public:
———————————————————————————————–
“UPDATE ON RELEASE OF OT IX AND X and beyond:
The word on OT IX is “no word,” not just a nothing, but the positive statement that there is NO data, and any earlier “data” or rumors or such were all invalid, just guesses or rumors.
There is NO data, no estimate of date, no official conditional targets, no length of time to do them, solo or HGC or combination, etc.
Nothing that was rumored before is valid.
The message to OTs and anyone else wanting to have OT IX released is “make your Orgs into Ideal Orgs”.
That is what is needed in order to get OT IX released. That is what we all should work on if we want to help get these upper OT levels released.”
———————————————————————————————–
I’ve never seen anything “walked back” quite so hard before in my life.

FL,
Just to validate you a bit, I did old OTVII, and a lot of new OTVII when it came out. I picked up a new body in the ’80s and I remember. I actually just picked up where I left off. A beautiful part is I’ve even connected with some of my old friends; I’m married to one. The church doesn’t like us old “come backers” and quite literally will crush your wins to naught because you don’t equal money to them anymore (control is in there too). It’s a shame actually, because there are so many. So many just keep quiet. And I know quite a lot of them. OTVII is a huge win. Just keep trusting what you know. Also, the old OT wins are there to be had. Just don’t ask the church how.

Anon – you got that right. The past life Clears starrted showing up as early as 1970-1, maybe earlier, but at least that early back on CoS lines. I know at least a dozen and they have all had their Clear state checked, rechecked, invalidated repeatedly and been wrung through the ringer. Only one or two have actually made it on to the OT levels at all (of the ones I know) and none of them, except one, is currently on lines active. The stories are scary similar: of originating very young, having it invalidated, “knowing things” but not knowing how, and struggling to reconcile old with new.

Anon ~ glad to hear the perspective of a fellow returnee. Especially from one who did all the OT levels in their prior life. My prior life contact with the subject happened before DMSMH was published. I didn’t find it again until 1973, when I was nineteen years old. Bad timing on my part, as by the time I was established enough to afford the Bridge, the prices began increasing too fast for me to keep up with. In a few short years, Scientology became a rich man’s indulgence, and Miscavige was now at the helm.
Fortunately, I’m still here, and so is the tech. And we’ve both been freed, just as LRH intended.
Ronnie Bell says
justthisgal ~ you just described my life in Scientology from the mid-seventies, forward. For me, it was a lonely experience. I only knew a couple other people who claimed to have had past life contact with Scientology, and of course, we couldn’t really talk to each other because of the tacit agreements about such things. It took me nearly twenty years to finally sort it all out. Ten years later, I spent $20,000 for the privilege of having all of my certainty completely invalidated.

When you say ‘old’ ot7, do you mean from the orignial grade chart where 7 came after 3x, or another version? Also, did you feel that the ‘new’ ot 7 was more complete? I’ve heard so much ‘old’ versus ‘new’ that I’m unsure which 7 is the one to embarck upon. Also, I did ot processess WAY prior to DMSMH and of course I could never talk about it in the church, but I finally did find another person who had experiences with LRH prior to the Scientology of 1950’s. I would like to hear about your experience and wins. You can write here, or to me @ writingthesurf@gmail.com Thanks!
Carcha says
The last Grade Chart released by LRH stated that higher OT levels would not be released pending more people’s attainment of OT VII. IMO it’s quite obvious that there is no “top” to spiritual development, and also that the goals of many OT VII’s have not materialized due to “recent storms resulting in technical delivery difficulties”.
Look at what spiritual development actually is: rational thought. Accurate perception of what is there is required. If all of us were super-crilliant, we wouldn’t need any help and could develop tech as we pleased – IF we pleased. The “IF” there is abit of a trick, but all the tech developed would be very, very, similar, would progress on a gradient through levels, and would arrive at the same places. Whatever the “why”, fortunately or unfortunately, it’s safe to say we’re not all super-brilliant, and we would all benefit from being so, and many of us hope to become so. (Merely “very smart” would be fine with me.)
There is no “unfulfilled promise” by LRH. The simple fact is that it is up to each individual to attain his or her own goals – LRH merely offered help. Those who have even read a book, created what they read in their own realities. It is indispensable help, but the help must be accepted and used. Currently, it is not being used. Some anxiety, perhaps. There seem to be a lot of people who want to pole vault without a pole. You cannot blame your coach because you cannot make the olympics. There are people running around who want “the next level” as a “fix all”. My guess is that many haven’t resolved their own OWs and problems and such, don’t know what R6EW means, people running around with different versions of OT I, different versions of OT II, people who do OT II in two weeks, people who do OT II over the course of a year, people with “New OT this” and “New OT that”, people who think “New” OT VIII is the top of the Bridge, people who think their IAS Status is the top of the Bridge, and complain about what? About their inabilitites to be “at cause” unilaterally over everything?
I don’t know how highly classed one has to be as an auditor to realize that auditing is about getting the PC to be at cause over his own life. Maybe someone can refine that and slam me for inaccuracy on that, or claim more auditing hours and a better viewpoint, and I’m perfectly fine with that – if, in fact, they do have a better viewpoint. But my point in saying this, is that philosophically and practically being at cause involves an awful, awful lot of trying to get others to be at cause. The idea of “I am at cause” is more like “I can get that student to learn” and “my friends are amongst the most communicative people I know” and “people around me seem to be more able to be, do, and have” and “my friends feel free to trust me with their innermost secrets” and “my PCs win better than your PCs”. I mean, you want to be at cause over what, and to what result?
As far as OT levels are concerned, and the abilities there, all of it is a question of seeing straight, getting one’s ducks in a row, understanding oneself, life, and others. It is rational thought, seeing things clearly. That’s it. Calculus is going to remain a mystery to someone who doesn’t understand the equations. People want to write a symphony without learning all the scales and instruments and understanding music. Then turn around and complain about not being able to write a symphony. It’s like blaming LRH because your sex life isn’t satisfactory, and demanding an OT XVIII sex-pill to fix it when the problem is that you find reason to yell at your spouse all day long because there’s an unseen make-wrong there, which is handledable with tech for the Grades. Self Analysis lists are publicly available. Ever try running those whole-track as an OT? Buckle your seat belt!
The tech exists, there to be learned and used. There’s a ton of tech. If there is something hard to do, that is getting another to confront all of life itself, and take responsibility themselves – with literally a world of understanding and compassion. What you run into, trying to do that, requires a competent C/S and Auditor, and hundreds of hours of very well done auditing hours on a careful gradient, no steps quickied. Even then, it’s tough. Someone who can get there sees a pretty harmonious Creation. You can call them all manner of names, and they’ll understand where it’s all coming from, and respond rationally with a solution (and within minutes have you wondering what it was you were “flashing” about – it’s not “dominance” – it’s a natural responsibility for understanding). Why it’s tough is because there’s this little thing called a reactive mind screaming, “You’re wrong! You’re terrible! You can never tell! People are bad! You can’t trust! You can’t win! You can’t this, you can’t that, and there’s nowhere to go and even if there were, it’s not worth going there, so give it up!” The reactivity and assorted fixed ideas – as formidable as all these icebergs are – are there to be overcome, bit by bit.

Mike, you’ve had a great debut month. Your blog instantly moved up to the #2 position in my Scientology-related reading list (not a bad thing, but given that I got my visibility in this community by my writing on Tony Ortega’s blog, it’s no reflection on you that his blog continues to be the first thing I read).
I think in view of your position and personal relationships with current active staff and members of the RCS you can do a couple of things on your blog better than anyone. First, reporting on events, particularly on the difference between DM’s claims and the reality, would be extremely powerful. As a hypothetical example, if you were able to get a photo of the audience size for one of the big annual events showing the number of empty chairs (or even showing an ever-shrinking number of full chairs in the tent at the IAS gala at Saint Hill), that would provide another great data point showing what nonsense “straight up and vertical” expansion is. Reporting on smaller-scale local events would be important as well. Your expose of the thinly-attended Dallas event was a great example. As this new “Alliance” idea rolls out, getting any real data points on the number of people willing to drive hundreds of miles from Kansas City to support the Minneapolis org would show that this band-aid to cover over the holes in the Ideal Org disaster is dead on arrival.
Stories from recently departed disaffected staff in the orgs and in the Sea Org would also be extremely valuable, particularly from those people who have some idea of the current stats in their orgs. Good cases in point would be your recent posts about the Berlin and Johannesburg orgs. Getting a read on the GI at Berlin was extremely valuable, for instance. That number got me started wondering whether, even with their almost-slave-labor salaries, the orgs are unprofitable. Other similar data points from those interviews (when credible and cross-checking with other information) go a long way towards answering what I think is the most important question to answer to predict the rate of decline of the RCS organization: are they eating into the reserves?
Another area where you could uniquely contribute to the body of information about current status of the RCS is to bring forth perspective from current members and recently departed staff on the number of “sideliners” and “under the radar” crowd as a percentage of the US population. Over the last couple of months, I have begun to believe that greater percentages of the “public” population in LA and Clearwater are in one of these two categories than I had previously thought. These people put up the outward appearance of remaining in the good graces of the RCS to avoid either the personal or economic consequences of disconnection were they to leave. This is of particular interest given that there seems to be increased emphasis in IAS fundraising on smaller “cornerstone” ($35,000 IIRC) donors rather than the “Patronius Gluteus Maximus” donors, who appear to be tapped out for various reasons. If the percentage of sideliners and under-the-radars is higher than we think, this augurs poorly for future IAS donations; this is possibly the fastest-moving swing factor that could tip the balance in the overall organization from profitability to losses (i.e., having to draw down reserves to keep up the facade).
Hope this perspective is not too geeky and boring, but these are the areas where I think you can get the story out faster and in more detail than any other blogger on the RCS that I know.
Thanks again for putting together such a great debut month! Keep it up!
Mike Rinder says
Thanks John. I am not insulted at all. In fact, I am happy to follow Tony in your morning reading. Frankly, you fit his target audience better than mine in any event. But what I really want to know is where do I rank in your morning reading vis a vis the WSJ? 🙂
Your suggestions are very helpful and well taken.
I hope to encourage more “Special Correspondents” to provide me with information and thus have a constant stream of information from “insiders” and people on the ground and eventually be putting up several stories each day and even byline them to Special Correspondents by name.
Thanks again for your patronage.

John P. says
Very funny re: the WSJ. It might seem surprising, but given my specific responsibilities on Wall Street, reading the Wall Street Journal is actually not that useful. As we say, by the time a piece of news is in the WSJ, it’s too late; the smart money has already been all over it. And we *are* the smart money. We win when we figure out what’s going to happen rather than simply reacting faster to a report of what has happened (no, I’m not talking about insider trading or anything illegal; I’m talking about long-term detective work to put thousands of small data points together to figure out what’s going to happen).
The other issue is that the WSJ is usually wrong about the stuff I care about. In particular, the WSJ editors tend to believe that the Internet is a fad that will probably go away soon; they’ve believed this for almost 20 years and despite the creation of at least a trillion dollars of new wealth for people who invested in companies like Amazon, Google, and others who have greatly changed modern life.
So given how useless the WSJ is for this particular professional money manager, I am entirely truthful when I tell you that I read your blog before I read the WSJ…
Mike Rinder says
JP — great. It was a tongue-in-cheek question.
I knew any real analyst may look at the WSJ but its certainly no “must read” as its old news by the time it gets into a newspaper…
