L. Ron Hubbard made many lofty claims about what he would bring to the world. End war, insanity, cruelty, criminality and unhappiness. Not even a blip. He promised to raise everyone’s IQ, free them from fears, unwanted emotions, upsets, disease and usher them into an eternity of enlightenment and spiritual freedom. Instead, he created a bubble of people who lightened their bank accounts in exchange for status — on one hand certificates that recognized them for achieving states and abilities that they can never demonstrate and on the other handing out pins and bowling trophies for giving even more money to establish status in their community.
