Yesterday we had the Survival Rundown pitch.
Today — the Purif.
Interesting that the services they are HEAVILY promoting don’t require auditors — you pay to co-audit Objectives and pay to sit in a sauna. Easy money.
But this promo piece contains a bit of a curve ball. It highlights an LRH quote which gives the purpose of the Purif.
The Product of the Purification Program is a purified body, free from accumulated impurities, drugs and other toxins that could prevent one’s mental and spiritual advance.”
Doesn’t exactly align with the current program of sending everyone back for a do-over.
How could this quote apply to an OT VIII? If they have to redo their Purif then by DEFINITION they had drugs and other toxins that PREVENTED their mental and spiritual advance (and if they DIDN’T prevent their mental and spiritual advance then why redo it?)
But IF they really DO need to do it over, does it mean at every level they did not achieve the expected result? And they have to go back and “redo” everything to “GAG II standards”?
And this question isn’t only applicable for OT VIII’s — it’s for anyone who has done ANY auditing AFTER the Purif.
And if this is really a “new, standard, surveyed and professional” Purif — why have they been delivering squirrel Purifs for decades?
But boy, this Golden Age of Phase II Purification Tech sure is packing them in. With the “largest purif in the world, capable of servicing 120 people at a time” they have completed 150 in 6 months. And this includes STAFF. Based on their capacity, if they were servicing only 100 people at a time and they were averaging a month to complete, they would have completed 600 by now. 25 at a time in the LARGEST PURIF in the world in the largest concentration of Scientologists on the planet?
When we built it, they didn’t come.
hiatus57 says
Mike,
This is grossly unfair mate.
You forget the fact that the sauna you are talking about is not yet “Ideal” so you should not expect them to get the figures correct.
Aquamarine says
Mike Rinder, you are THE MAN. I can’t even wait to read the comments before acking you on this question you posed with regard to the feasiblity of re-doing the Purif. This is precisely what I asked about re-doing the Purif – if you had drugs or toxins, in your system all along, necessitating a redo NOW, then wouldn’t that negatively effect all the auditing you’ve had to date? Same thing with Objectives: if you didn’t “get” Objectives, wouldn’t that necessitate a re-do of your ENTIRE Bridge? No one was EVER able to give me straight, sensible answers. So I decided, “Fuck it. I’m not redoing this stuff”. Thank you, again, Mike! Ok, now I’m going back to read the comments.
Aquamarine says
Oh, and totally spot on observation that if the Purif one did did NOT negatively effect your subsequent auditing, then why re-do the damned thing? At the time, I didn’t actually ask anyone THAT question, but I definitely was feeling the concept, if you catch my drift.
Entheta says
This toxicology expert concurs with what you’ve posted here. It’s not “opinion”, it’s just that radiation and the body don’t work like LRH thought they did. He was just plain wrong, and it’s not about arguing or blasphemy or “making YOU wrong” or whatever.
If you met someone who claimed that their “tech” could defy gravity, would you hand them your baby to fling into the air to “just try it out”? No, you wouldn’t, because you don’t need to be a scientist to just KNOW that his claim is wrong, and your baby is too precious to risk, don’t you think?
Well, LRH’s claims about drugs and radiation should go into that same category in your mind: just plain not correct, I’m sorry to say…
Entheta says
… and now I see this point was covered by others… my apologies for failing to read all comments…
and I’ve also failed to realize how many of you folks really do believe that SCN has something good in it… I believe there is an obvious mountain of evidence to the contrary, but: Best of luck to you, and I really do mean that…
Entheta says
Hi folks –
it is a bit scary to me that no one (well, maybe I didn’t notice it yet) among these comments has mentioned that the entire concept of the PURIF is false, from a simple science point of view.
I had a friend who tried and tried to get me into SCNTLGY; like a good friend, I read many of the books but found it to be mostly nonsense, especially Hubbard’s writings on radiation, drugs, and the PURIF. Having studied chemistry/biology/physics etc, one realizes that the premise behind the PURIF is just silly.
When my old pal told me that he had done the PURIF and re-experienced things like baby aspirin and meth that he’d done many years prior, I patiently explained that water-soluble compounds (like Vitamin C for example) simply cannot be stored in the body long-term, and that even fat-soluble compounds are expelled in shorter periods than that. Further, the idea that “radiation” was coming out of his body (when all that redness is the body’s normal reaction to a large dose of Niacin) was completely contrary to how radiation works…
I also pointed out how frightening I found it, that his “religion” had convinced him that he had personally experienced things that are just physically impossible.
He responded by mailing me a disconnection letter. And that isn’t weird at all…
Anyway, I just found it a bit “off”, I guess, that contributors to this thread are talking about how “wrong” it is that the Tech was changed… when I would hope that folks would be realizing that the Tech itself is useless.
Good luck in your journeys, and may you avoid things like Scientology in the future.

Paul J. said this about DM “He can’t look in on himself, he just blames others.” This reminded me of what Hubbard said when he wrote about the characteristics of a suppressive. At the end of the chapter after describing all the traits of an SP he warns the reader with “don’t worry if you got the idea while reading all this you might be an SP ! You aren’t because SPs can never introspect or look to find fault with themselves”. Not an exact quote but close enough to convey the message.
Espiritu says
4chanpartyvan and Science doc, nice tag-team.
By all means follow your beliefs, do not do the purification rundown and keep doing dope.
I hope that works out for you. If it does not, then you can always try the purif and see for yourself if it helps you.
IASREG says
You wouldn’t mind being sued if they do the purif on your recommendation and their health is harmed, would you? See for yourself if this ‘program’, which has been scientifically shown to be worthless for its intended purpose and potentially dangerous to health including liver failure. Riiiiight, come on into the org and find out for yourself about Scientology. What could possibly go wrong? Derp, no thanks.

overrunincalif says
It doesn’t matter how many times you redo the purif, you will get the same result. Wasted time, wasted money, wasted energy. It’s an unworkable activity if you do so to rid your body of toxins. I’ve had lots of wins from Scientology, and much of the tech is very useful, but the purif does not fall into that category. Your body sweats to cool off. The amount of toxins removed from sweating are negligible. Drinking straight oil is bad for your body and does not replace “bad fat”. It simply adds to your existing fat. Many other outpoints. There are ways to remove toxins from your body. The purif ain’t one of them.
Robin says
I feel so sorry for those who still believe.
Paul J says
If you want to practice Scientology in the church today you have to know that you’re receiving DM’s interpretation of LRH. The real stats of Scientology are in the toilet. This is the result of 30 years of an insane interpretation of policy and tech by DM. At the end of the road when you find yourself without friends, family, money or a roof over your head, he’ll blame you for the failure of Scientology because you didn’t do enough. He can’t look in on himself, he just blames others.

Time the church admit they deliver services to body thetans, per their own add linked above man is a composite with entities, do some googling and you’ll find the truth, it’s primary purpose is destimulating freewheeling body thetans, b1 and niacin being the active ingredient.
Yes I got gains on purif I’m not a hater but I support transparency, truth, exercise and sweating.
What is so different about the new purif anyway?

Independent scientific evaluations report that the concentration of toxins or drugs in the sweat is negligible, as they are primarily removed from the body through the liver, the kidneys and the lungs. The notion that toxins from fatty tissue can be sweated out is categorically denied by toxicology experts.
Science Doc says
I categorically agree with these statements. All of this is very well known and independently verifiable. On a personal note my prescription medication includes large doses of niacin. If I omit aspirin or niaspan coprescribed with the niacin, I have flushing etc. These effects are normal with large niacin doses and do not reflect the release of toxins. One of my other prescribed meds is a cannabis product. I couldn’t walk very well without it.
Carcha says
A spirit is a spirit, and that’s the natural condition for a being – no body. Independent of a body, no purif necessary. All this tells me they are not getting OT’s at the Co$ these days. The whole thing has become ridiculous. OT is achievable, and has been achieved. I can understand the logic of doing a purify early on if the body is loaded with residual drugs which may cause flash-backs and interfere with the being (create a continuous PTP). In that case, a couple of weeks of purif would probably help, and speed the auditing. So would remedying hypertension, or the flu, or even being well-rested and well-fed. You fix up a body condition which distracts. But people lost sight of the goals of the entire thing, the auditing, Scientology, the data, the knowledge. Those goals are spiritual – the natural state of a being – and they involve understanding, knowledge. It isn’t just out-of-body – it is the understanding and knowledge of and about life and living which produces “out-of-body” or “exterior.” You don’t “pry the being out of his body,” you give him a viewpoint and he decides to not be in a body based on his own determinism – an “Aha!” moment. People orient to a body, these days, so when someone “calls your name” you respond. You “get hungry,” “get winded,” “feel healthy,” “need a haircut,” “need new clothes,” “drive a car,” “speak a language,” – so LRH came up with “exterior.” He should have said “achieve a natural state,” and oriented things towards OT, but that wouldn’t have reached the realities most people deal with. Beings today care about their incomes, housing, jobs, marriages, family, kids – “spiritual” is not a high priority! Auditing clarifies the mass of agreements of various sorts which a being tries to live with – even “agreeing” that when the body dies, he “dies.” The goal of Scientology is an independent being, his own thoughts, his own conclusions, opinions, and his own determinism to locate where he feels is best or better or whatever the heck he feels and concludes and considers. Scientology is a new ball game. And the goals and purposes of being have to be seriously re-thought, re-worked, re-considered, and some greater sanity introduced into all that is involved. Scientology does all that on a carefully worked out gradient, so it’s comfortable, and so the individual gets personalized auditing such that he comfortably, gradiently, understands on his own terms, smoothly and quickly, without dedicating all his resources over many lifetimes to attempting to understand and even then not achieving the desired goals because the reactive mind has never been tackled and its contents understood as data, not charge. And that’s the truth.
Hallie Jane says
Great comment Carcha! Thanks for being here.
Cotch says
Really well said Carcha!
Ron says
Exactly Garcha. Thank you!
For the Brave New World to exist we can’t have independent beings with independent thoughts and self determinism. Scientology is a huge threat to the global plan that has been moving forward for many years. Must not have beings who are aware and alert and can communicate. Therefore Scientology had to be eliminated. This is what we’ve been watching for thirty years.

so in scientology’s reality, those who had put off doing courses and levels for years are now better off since they spent less money and have less to redo.

remoteviewed says
“scientology’s reality” is pretty much a generality and besides scientology is a subject not a living entity therefore it doesn’t have any awareness to have a “reality”.
To me it’s like saying according to a toaster’s reality etc….
But anyway, aside from that. I do see your point WS.
For instance I was told by some moron calling himself a “C/S” that anyone who had any Dianetics like HSDC and XDn as an OT was going to be on NOTs longer.
Such bull shit as far as I was concerned. Especially when you read what Ron says in the Auditor and the Mind’s Protection.
But idiots like that get away with such BS because the subjects of the current Organization accept any authoritarian statement by some low life with some braid and a Banana Republic made up title like “COB” for example without question.
Jethro Bodine says
Well, there are times when a person may validly need to redo a purif. For example, one did a previous purif., did a bunch of auditing, and then went back out into the world. A person might have started drinking alcohol again, had an operation (with drugs during and after the operation), or perhaps got exposed to some environmental toxins. But making everyone redo the purif just because it’s “Gag 2” is bonkers. Even before Gag 2, a lot of people we’re being encouraged to redo their purifs just to get the WDAH stats up (stat push).
remoteviewed says
Maybe so Jethro,
But I figure those cases are pretty rare. I mean once you’ve technically the EP and your case is progressing pretty well. Why bother?
Besides I don’t know any reference anywhere that says you can’t do a sauna every once in while.
Hey way back before the purif. Me and a buddy of mine used to do a sauna and vitamins (especially lots of B1) to rid ourselves of the effects of a hangover.
Worked pretty good 😉

Speaking of the Purif, I read an interesting article recently on Mercola.com: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/05/04/detoxification-program.aspx
Yes, it is the Purif by another name. The article mentions a Dr. David Root, whose name rang a tiny bell. Sure enough, he wrote a glowing testimony about the Purif in the 1991 WIS? book. Seems the Purif has moved into the culture and LRH gets no credit, though the comments below the article are full of arguments about Scn, LRH, Clear Body, Clear Mind, etc.

Just for the downsides re Mercola.
I wouldn’t do the Purif again, other than as a staff member, it allowed me to read Robert Ludlum’s novels which I enjoyed, and got me lounging time sitting in the sauna.
dankoon says
Chuck, most of Mercola’s articles are real quackery. Stuff like “take responsibility for your health,” “eat healthy food,” “exercise,” “avoid toxic chemicals,” you know, the stuff that doesn’t cost anything and which cuts into Big Medicine’s billions they make from an obese, sick populace.
remoteviewed says
Yeah gotta admit that’s real quackery there Dan and that the FDA is probably quietly building up a case against him.
Thankfully we have our great and glorious government to save us from ourselves.
thegman77 says
In the comments section of that Mercola post, numerous posters referred to Hubbard’s book, most claiming to NOT be a scientologist.
And Chuck, quackwatch.org is run by an AMA apologist who eagerly attacks any process or claim which in anyway threatens the medical industry. I’ve seen him on video refusing to look at actual medical records of cancer cures, simply shrugging them off as “not possible.” I don’t trust that guy one damned bit!

It is so idiotic. Thank you, Mike, for pointing out that if OTVIIIs need to re-do the Purif, then everything they did after that is invalid. That will be a fact to query the next person who calls me to try and get me back on the Bridge. They can have no answer for this idiocy… except to fumble around and hopefully start questioning this madness themselves.

But just think!! Now the staff can finally get some of the services they were promised before they joined!!
Actually, as a stand-alone promo, this piece strikes me as being directed towards those who haven’t done the Purif yet.
But, I ask this little question. Have you ever met someone who has completed the bridge that didn’t have a little something “out” or not completed or an area that wasn’t totally handled? I’ve seen/met several people of this nature. I’m not in agreement with people doing the whole bridge over again – but I don’t see anything wrong with perhaps getting a few things cleared up here and there that may have been missed no matter where on the bridge it might be. Doing something over again that doesn’t indicate is lame, but certain areas might be okay if its beneficial.
Personally, I’d never go back to the church, so I’m not sticking up for anything within that twisted organization, however, outside the church, I see no reason not to seek those who have a much better understanding of how things should be done and are efficient with the results. I do believe there are a few out there :).
Hallie Jane says
Absolutely! A senior LRH datum is that auditing is for use. A grade 0 release might develop communication problems later, with a spouse or a boss which could be handled. Or an OTIII could have a death in the family and need help. A dianetics completion could have an accident and need some more things run. Auditing is for use. Beings can run whatever they are interested in as life challenges and difficulties occur, if anyone is listening to them and cares. If the orgs were a safe place and didn’t cost a fortune, people could and would originate. If they then got results, they’d be busy. Those who want auditing have a right to it, there are indies doing a very good job.

Mike,
Sorry, this question is entirely off-topic.
I was wondering why Pat Broeker is not speaking out. He has not signed any NDA agreement, did he? It seems that Pat has a lot to hide. The times have changed, I don’t think that he needs to be scared of DM any longer. And for sure he reads some internet pages here and there … even though I think that he must have been out of Scientology long before Hubbard died. Pat was very close to Hubbard, there must have been an awful lot of doubt sometimes. Were Anne and Pat not the ones, we think they were?
But on the other side Jim Logan does not fit into Anne’s picture. Jim is like a blinkered Hubbard horse, this would have been a terrible mix. So Anne must have been quite convinced of LRH.
The only answer to the question could be: Pat or Hubbard was writing that memo.
Let’s say Pat did forge the “Loyal Officer” memo, still this is pretty much not relevant these days. He could admit it, and nobody would care … unless it would strengthen DM’s position.
Is there more to it than meets the eye? Was there something terribly illegal going on and Miscavige could prove it? Maybe a cover-up or murder?
What is your view? Did you ever discuss that with Marty?
I would like to close this knowlege gap as good as possible.
Mike Rinder says
I dont have the answers to your questions except one.
Was there something terribly illegal going on and Miscavige could prove it?
Yes, huge financial irregularities. Hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of dollars in cash forwarded to Broeker ostensibly for the needs of him and Annie and LRH. Much of it went missing. Was not accounted for. He was threatened with criminal prosecution (done by lawyers so not legally blackmail due to careful wording, but blackmail nontheless).
Maybe he just doesn’t give a shit? Just wants to live his life?
Brian says
Broeker, if you are listening in, ever consider putting this whole thing to rest? Ever consider that you could help a lot of people by stepping into the light and tell the truth about those last days.
You could single handedly put some lies to rest. How many people, how many, are still buying into an LRH that you know not to be truth?
You could do some good I feel. That’s if it means anything to you. You could take down the dude who hounded you you’re whole life.
You’d be a hero to some and a nightmare to Dave. Many of us would like to see that happen.
barefacedmessiah says
Thanks, Mike.
Chuck Beatty says
Long time Scientologists obviously just need regular body maintenance for their accumulating toxins!
“Has it been 10 years or more since you last did the Purif! If so, you might be full of new accumulated unhandled toxins!”
… would be more honest!
But long term most disappointing to me, was Scientology’s total lack of spiritually improved able OT superpeople who are really helping make the world truly better!
The body thetan free (OT) Scientologists just are not dramatically miraculously changing world conditions!
I as a Sea Org member was always thinking we were making such people, but it’s never happened and is grounds for skipping Scientology as a subject in terms of dedicating your life as a Sea Org member!
The OT Case, the whole Wall of Fire engram, the 4th Dynamic Engram that is handled by doing all of the OT levels where the body thetans are exorcised, that whole bigger spiritual improvement purpose of helping people lose their body thetans and handle their OT cases, just has not resulted in major world changed conditions! Sea Org members run the Advanced Orgs and Flag to deliver this whole level of higher case handling for people’s spiritual improvement.
If this setup isn’t doing the job, then all this is just a big control operation, bidding people’s time, telling them they are getting better, they are playing along, willing themselves “better” on command, and not really making this world a better place!
The product of the movement ought to be more conditions changed in society. Thinking about the whole statistics for what management looks at, there’s none for changing society!
All the movement’s statistics are about their own growth, but not on society’s growth or improvement.
Cotch says
“Scientologists just are not dramatically miraculously changing world conditions!” I disagree with you on this Chuck. In fact I was only thinking the other day of how many ex SO I have recently met, many in the SO for 20 plus years who get out, get themselves up the Bridge and are, if not already at the top of their game, on their way there. Actually it is quite amazing to see how far they have gone even with being off the comm lines for so long in the world outside of Scn.
I know of one OT 8 still drinking the cool aide but a really nice guy, started a complex scientific hobby a couple of years ago and is now being asked to give talks at conferences.
Maybe what you were doing wasnt the waste of time you think it was.
I believe the problem, besides the tech being altered, and the OTs being recycled to their detriment and introversion, is the church giving these OTs the game they are to play, which is the ideal orgs and ias BS. They cant then work on their own dynamics and purposes.
Its a bit like the movie with James Stewart,” Its a Wonderful Life”. We really dont know how this life would have played out without Scn and many, many, very good and able Scientologists.

“Phase” means: 1 a distinct period or stage in a process of change or forming part of something’s development
I wonder what “stage” Dave figures this is. He always seems to know, being such a long-range-thinking kind of guy.
He must know that at Phase 3 the rest of the idiots are finally going to jump ship. (which I guess is the end-goal).

What OT VIIIs, etc may not understand is what LRH calls a bypassed case is the only reason to redo a lower level. Don’t take my word for it. Look in the red vol index for bypassed/failed case and read the HCOBs before they are canceled. If someone’s case really has been bypassed it is because that someone failed to make the grade at the lower point where his case was not handled. Unfortunately, this also means every step of the Bridge after the failed point wasn’t made either. This person is now a candidate for an Advance program. That is, of course, assuming the person stills sees Bridge progress as worthwhile. He/she could just say to hell with the whole thing. On a level K BC lecture LRH says a person’s biggest wins are at the beginning of the Bridge. Certainly there’s no personal case gain even offered above new OT I. So this mandatory Purif/Survival RD nonsense is a set up for everyone to do a rundown designed only for staff members. This detour is not for individual case gain. Not in a million years. Public are like Samo’s tigers running around the trees only instead of turning into butter they are a source of cold hard cash. The MEST of choice.
remoteviewed says
KT,
That is correct.
This is pretty much covered in the VI and VIII courses and the C/S Series (you know a series of HCOBs about how to C/S cases which they are obviously using as a door stop or a paper weight these days) and other references as well even in the early PABs on how to *advance* cases.
Though I got to admit it’s really simple these days probably because the Organization is in the thrall of a real simpleton these days who once said something like who needs gazillions of tech experts (you know a strength through ignorance kinda thing) and all you gotta do is go all the way to OT VIII and then start at the bottom again.
Such is the endless spinning squirrel cage the Church of Scientology has become.
Hallie Jane says
This en masse C/Sing, or executive C/Sing is a gross C/Sing error and is gross out tech. Obviously no one cares about the earlier EP which is gross inval and eval. Reverse, reverse reverse! I’ve known a few people who needed or wanted to retread a purif because they had major surgery, or a long necessity for pain killers or something, but this is an individual and personal assessment. The rcs gives the continuous wrong indication that the individual is nothing. C/Sing should align with the being’s point of view in order to be successful, not this “everyone is the same” nonsense.
Ask me how I really feel says
The application of en masse c/sing was the beginning of the end for me. Mid OT VII I was “c/sed” for the “missing” OT V rundowns that had just been “discovered”. Everyone else on the level got the same program. I’m a trained auditor and I know better. I protested over and over. Why was I being taken off a level I was doing well on? On and on I argued and managed to push off the vultures for another 6 month check or two. I vividly remember one person telling me Flag was creating a boom like the original NOTs boom. Ha!
I finally caved and started the rundowns. Big mistake. Worst auditing I ever had! Nothing was reading and I just got more beefed up until they finally came up with an r-factor that I didn’t need the rundowns. That at least was correct.
That was somewhere around 1993 and game over for me. After that all I saw coming from the church were similar “corrections”, from the books to OT VII, to auditor training, the grades, etc. etc. The Purif is simply the most recent in a long chain of wrong whys and pathetic attempts to fill the empty orgs and keep Davie living his over the top lifestyle.
Thanks, but no thanks!

Hallie,
For years I objected to this “one size fits all” direction the Orgs were taking not just in Processing but in Training as well. Then I realized that I was just talking to myself and that it was time to leave this Government Approved and Tax Exempt insane asylum before I went insane or maybe more insane than I was.
Invisible Man says
Very interesting. Being a trained auditor myself could see the gross outnesses as well. As regards to being given my C/S R/Fer of having to start practically from the Purif and up through objectives and grades again was so strange. Even the auditor who gave the R/Fer who’s TRs was totally out. She was so hesitant in telling me I had to do the Purif again. It was like she didn’t agree with it either but blindly went along with it. Of course that pretty much ended it for me and I thought later what a gross evaluation and invalidation of my case. The C/S is a damn fool to go along with such BS. The preclear has no say in his own case. Also qual interviews, 2 way comm and Correction Lists are valuable tools to help the preclear to see if he made it or not, which are never used. Totally gross out tech. How stupid that these C/ses can’t see this.

I mean what they gonna do if they don’t play along?
Either get 500 bucks (which I think is less than the average prisoner released on parole gets) and a bus ticket out of there. After being endlessly sec check and raking up an FLB in the 6 digit range.
Or end up on the RPF for going against “command intention”.
By his/her code he/she can not divulge the despicable level of corruption within the Organization of its most senior officers.
I myself was tempted to write some tell all book but reconsidered mainly because of the Auditors Code, the fact I signed a bunch of bonds amounting to some astronomical number and also there is no way to corroborate hearsay anyway.
So I just allude at how corrupt it really is at the highest levels of the organization.
