A vital element of the control scientology exercises over its membership is the control of information.
Scientologists are exhorted not to look at the internet and not to watch the media. For they are the Merchants of Chaos (unless they report on something positive about scientology, in which case they are lauded and scientology certainly spends a LOT of money sending out paid for press releases).
In the promotion that has circulated about the IAS “Maiden Voyage” event there has been a great deal of hype about a monumentally epic announcement made by “COB.” Here is just one of the hypey communications from one of the kings of hype, the voice of the IAS itself, Jeff Pomerantz.
Dear Friends,
I had the honor and pleasure of seeing this week’s MV Event while on the Freewinds for the OT Summit.
This year’s Events were the best I’ve ever seen ( and I’ve been to perhaps 15 or so MV’s)– and THIS Event is the Crown Jewel! You will be surprised, AMAZED–and PROUD!!!
It is one of our most monumental IAS events ever, showing the global impact of the IAS in places you won’t believe, and culminating in an epic announcement from COB of a victory against suppression that defines the phrase: “We Are The IAS!”
DON’T MISS IT!!
Warm regards,
Jeff Pomerantz OT Ambassador
IAS Freedom Medal Recipient
And here is another one of the many that went out to try to get everyone to attend (so they could be regged):
This event is monumental. It’s comparable to “The War Is Over” event.
It’s BIG NEW NEWS! I was in shock and at the same time elated in a new unit of time to have found Scientology.
You WILL “stand tall” forever more! Be there and be part of the strongest movement on Earth!”
Paulette Layton, OT Ambassador
Now, here is what REALLY happened at the event, from a Special Correspondent who saw it last Friday:
Now, just to put this into context – the termination of the prosecution in Belgium happened in MARCH. And apparently no scientologist knew about it. It was a “big surprise.” And “epic news.”
No scientologist knew about this because their ONLY SOURCE of information about scientology is from scientology itself – or more specifically, from David Miscavige at his events. It is literally the ONLY “authorized” source of news.
And what is the real story about this magnificent “victory against suppression”? This spin-doctoring that would cause even Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton’s spin-doctors heads to spin. The truth is that the Belgium Org was a tiny, failing thing on the second floor of a backstreet building in a less than stellar section of the city. Like every org, they DID defraud people, promising them things they could not deliver. In fact, it was so concerning that they had little defense to the charges that two strategies were employed:
- Delay and do everything possible to bog down the case so it would eventually be lost on the basis of the unfair delays
- Establish an entirely new organization – one that would survive the shutting down of the existing org. The key defendants were left in the “old corporation” so as not to “taint” the new one and a new scientology church was established and a new building bought for it by the IAS. It was mostly staffed by people from outside Belgium as there were so few scientologists in Belgium a new org could not be manned (remember, the “old” org had at MOST 10 staff).
That delay strategy was aided by incompetence and bureaucracy in the judicial system in Brussels.
Yes, it was a significant accomplishment to maneuver this case into a position where the prosecutor was unable to make the charges stick – but it is like getting off an armed bank robbery on a technicality. Nothing to brag about — just go home and count your blessings. In fact, it is a reflection on the state of scientology in the world that this molehill has been converted into an epic, monumental mountain. There isn’t much to brag about when you turn this into the centerpiece of your accomplishments.
PS: You can bet he didn’t thank the main person responsible for this – someone who is no longer in the Sea Org, but who worked for many, many years to maneuver this case into it’s final position. That in itself is another story…
Gus Cox says
Scientology itself is a “merchant of chaos.”
I’m much more calm being out. When I was in, it was always “CALL TO ARMS!!! GERMAN PSYCHS!!! ENEMIES AT THE GATE!!!! STOP THE SPS!!!!!” Etc. ad nauseum. There was always some “enemy of scientology” who had to be crushed or else.
Always, the solution was give over some more money.
The crap in the daily newspaper is nothing compared to the onslaught of bad news scientology put out in order to raise money (every week by Thursday at 2).
Michael Winters says
Amazing how much they have to hype their events while all sounding pretty much like broken records about it too. I imagine some MAA proof-reading their emails so that they all contain the “trigger words” … but I digress. I don’t know of any other organization that spouts such hype except maybe the pyramid scheme messages I get on my voicemail, or the late night infomercials or maybe the new Star Wars when it came out. But there is no way their news could be on the same level as Star Wars. Grabbing the popcorn to watch the spin doctor turn an ant-hill into Everest and sell it. Watch the fools spoon it in, or face the MAAs on the way out. Hilarious times. Yet sad.

Hubbard will never rest peacefully, I feel both sad for his life, and, disgusted by him personally. I believe however that he enjoyed making others miserable. Misery loves company I’ve been told. A truly miserable excuse for a human being. The TRUE HOMO SAP! What an insult to the people he so cared about. Homo Novus, unfeeling slaves to this man, I wish all the still ins would wake up! Just blow! Please, save yourself from being saved! ( His words ).

Yes, save yourself from being “saved”! Just wake up and walk away.

Do Jeff Pomerantz and Paulette Layton recycle their letters from previous MV events? it seems a bother to rewrite the same thing year after year. if I were they, I’d set up a template in my word processing software.
I’d be interested to know what he had to say in last year’s or 3 years ago letter, since Jeff is a veteran of 15 years (!) of these events.

Belgium has ten staff! Durban and Johannesburg North orgs in South Africa can’t even boast that many! I stand to be corrected but I believe the same can be said for Port Elizabeth as well. If Cape Town does have more than ten, it’s not much more.
As for the AO Africa being opened this year? What a lie. He was joking, hey? There is no staff and no building alterations have been done. If I’m not mistaken, it’s still being run as a restaurant and hotel. (I’ll google this and see what I can find.)
There are no orgs here to speak of to feed any AO. The two “ideal” ones, Johannesburg and Pretoria, are staggering along, empty and bankrupt. Recently, Joburg org has been sending out emails to say that it’s going for St Hill size. This is for the third or fourth time or even fifth time!

Does Cruise go on these EPIC MV trips to hear about the MONUMENTAL WIN of a Belgian case being dismissed 4 months ago?
Bruce Ploetz says
Up to 2004 (last time I was there) it was common for Tom Cruise to be at the MV events. And of course there is the year that he stayed after the events for his birthday celebration on the Freewinds. I don’t know about after that, but there are indications that he goes to the IAS event at Saint Hill so possibly he goes to the Freewinds Maiden Voyage Anniversary events too.

The last event I attended was 2 or 3 years ago – the opening of the ideal Portland org. I was one of maybe 10,000 scientologists who went to Portland in 1985 to participate in the “crusade”. I’d felt proud to have been a part of that for many years. So when I was told there would be new information about “what really happened in Portland” I was curious and so decided to go.
“What really happened” was that an unknown punk solved the entire mess “single-handedly” and there was no reason for any of those 10,000 to have reorganised their lives and incomes, etc. to crusade for freedom.
I was the only one at the event that had been there in ’85 and so didn’t get a chance to look in the eyes of anyone else who’d also been. That would have been an interesting non verbal moment.
Wognited and Out says
Happy you are here Interested Party!! When I saw the “Opinion Leader’s” reading the tele prompter at the Ideal Org Grand Opening – my heart broke. I had a big cognition – after Scientologist’s “bribe” opinion leaders…they ask them to come to events to speak and not to worry about what they have to say – David Miscavige works tirelessly around the clock ….writing speeches the bribed baboons will read at all Scientology events.
I left shortly after that cognition.
I hang my head in shame for being so easily duped.
TomnotCruise says
I remember reading somewhere that there were very much fewer than 10 000 people there. Was what I read not correct?
RK says
It is complete poppycock that anyone handled the Portland lawsuit single handedly. The biggest kept secret was that it never had to happen. All Christopherson was asking for was a refund of under $2000, but Miscavige and upper management refused to authorize it.
Mike Rinder says
Hmmm, don’t think anyone in “upper management” made that decision. Maybe Martin Samuels upper management.
RK says
Not Martin Samuels, maybe the lawyers that were benefiting from the lawsuit. Someone was afraid that if the refund was issued, then it would open the door to further refund requests. Refunds were given all the time at the missions. But once Julie filed her lawsuit, giving the refund was out of the question. I heard that this came down from management.
Mike Rinder says
No, I do not believe so.
Don’t get me wrong, I think she ABSOLUTELY should have been given her money back the INSTANT she first asked for it.
secretfornow says
am I reading this right? … at the Portland Ideal Org opening misscabbage took credit for Portland Crusade handling? (and yep, I was at the crusade and used to be happy and proud and it means just nothing now. I wasted a chance to hang out and see the beautiful city!)

Yes secretfornow. He didn’t say it himself. It was said by the young woman, certainly too young to have been there in 85, who introduced him on stage.
TomnotCruise I couldn’t say how many were really there. 10,000 was a figure that popped into my head and was probably planted there 🙂 But there were certainly many thousands.

“It’s BIG NEW NEWS! I was in shock and at the same time elated in a new unit of time to have found Scientology.”
“New Unit of Time’??? Microseconds? Femtoseconds? As Lron used time scales that were ‘trillions of years in the past’, what could Pomeranz have found?
I propose the ‘idiotness’, the interval of time between the walking into a $cieno event and the request, no demand for funds for any clam activity.
Joe Pendleton really presses the computers buttons correctly. ‘Stuck in an electronic incident’ indeed!!! And me without my volt-meter.

Sounds just about right.

MKmole says
Over the years the MVs have taken on more importance in the ranks of $cientology holidays. I think the reasons MisScummige finds them so important are contained in these points.
1. It’s an excuse for The Tiny Tyrant to be surrounded entirely with his sycophants completely sequestered from the outside world.
2. He gets to play captain, wear his uniform and everyone salutes him.
3. He gets to selectively hobknob with the big whales at his leisure.
4. Back at the orgs the holiday is a month long so clams can be bombarded with propaganda every week. 4 events to attend.
5. It’s an IAS moneymaker. Once the whales are on the ship they get hammered for donations. And at the local level, before and after the IAS event the regs swarm to get donations. Very effective.
6. The MV pushes the OT VIIIs and whales importance button big time. They get to walk around with all these big wins and secrets till the videos are shown to the unwashed masses.
7. It keeps Danny Sherman busy. 4 nights of speeches.
8. It is the one week out of the year where the freewinds is almost full. They might cover their expenses.
9. It’s a holiday orchestrated by Davey to feature him 100%. LRH was dead by the time the ship became serviceable.(June 1988)
10. It’s a series of events where staff get to see some of the videos before they are released so they can enthusiastically call people endlessly to get them to the events.
This series of holiday events is about as religious as Groundhog Day. It’s clearly a contrivance of DLHDM and is crass, exploitive, tasteless and mercenary.
Nuff said!

11. The Tinny Tiny Dwarf get to go scuba diving and take underwater pictures to bore the shit out of a captive audience.
Bruce Ploetz says
12. The Tiny Dwarf can send anyone he wants to the bilges for as long as he wants and there is zero chance they will escape. Even if they somehow make it to the dock they aren’t going anywhere with their passport locked up in Security. Nowadays he no longer takes the “International Executives” to events, so he misses the giggles of sending the President or the Executive Director International to muck out the disgusting filthy waste down in the bowels of the Freewinds for weeks on end. But surely it he can make up for that by busting a few errant Sea Org members.
OSD, did you actually experience the underwater photography slide show or are you just reporting a story you heard? One year the RTC crew got together to buy him a Nikonos underwater camera and he did indeed shoot the reef at Bonaire and have the slide show set to music. Then he bored the crew practically to tears with it. The denouement was the slide of a (duh duh duh) Real Actual Honest-to-god shark, complete with Jaws music.
Old Surfer Dude says
No, I just heard about it. However, I do recall seeing the a picture of the Fleecewinds with a professional diving boat on its starboard side.

Jonny Jacobsen followed the trial and reported the outcome – https://www.byline.com/project/45/article/895
“The judge in the Belgian trial of Scientology threw out the whole case in a ruling that was more a judgment on the prosecutor than the defendants.”
During the trail, the judge did an excellent job uncovering many of the financial abuses that the CoS had perpetuated, and according to Jonny’s comment, “His ruling pointed out that the prosecutor did not pay enough attention to the nuts and bolts of the case: who did what to whom and when. That meant the case fell on procedural issues, so he could not even consider the facts of the case. Believe me, he looked almost as grim as the prosecutor.”
The prosecutor worked on it for decades, but then during the trial he took medical leave for a few weeks just before the end. I wondered if that affected his presentation of the case. Then at the end he went on and on, much more than his allotted time, in summing up. The judge basically told the prosecutor he did a very poor job making clear what the charges were, against whom, and with what evidence.

Ms. Layton was in shock and at the same time elated by this monumental event. She even claims that when one sees it, one WILL stand tall FOREVER MORE! (that’s eternity, folks, for keeps as they used to say in movies from the 1940s). The blowhard Pomeranz claims this monumental victory against suppression is the epic crown jewel of his 15 years of attending MV events. Wow … and double wow.
Ever wonder why the folks who shill for upcoming events (or their audience) neither get embarrassed nor even freakin’ NOTICE that for the 50th straight event, this is the ABSOLUTE GREATEST ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The answer is quite simple.. Your long term Scientologist has morphed into a collection of functioning and stimulus response circuits. They are on total automatic. They are no longer functioning as independent beings. Their voiced COGNITIONS and “wins” are even pre-programmed automatic responses. (which is why so many of these “wins” sound alike).
Their programmed responses are set to receive as hypnotic suggestions the hype of “most greatest ever event.” Those are the buttons that set their “event reactions” into gear and so need to be pushed before every event.
Here’s what you need to understand about why COB’s enablers are so careful to ALWAYS include the epic hype buttons: If these buttons were NOT pushed, then Scientologists might be shaken up a bit out of their circuits and would SURELY MISS GETTING THESE EXPECTED BUTTONS PUSHED. They might actually themselves NOTICE something. Probably not enough to be significant, but would also surely be Dev-T to have to handle any resultant confusion and then re-push all the right buttons to get all the circuits going again. (you know, when nothing handles the problem on your laptop until you turn it off and restart it … just a pain in the ass, same here)
*and by the way, no amount of objectives ever really works on long time Scientologists. Why? Another simple answer. All these objectives do is get the functioning circuits “in present time”, that is to say, get these people on truly working robotic mode. The Objectives are really kind of a tune up for the machines, which another reason Miscavige makes sure every Scientologist gets them in bulk.
Joe Pendleton says
Of course, someone like Pomeranz HIMSELF is a functioning mass of circuits. So when exposed to any event or event hype, HE than responds to THAT button with his programmed stimulus response outflow of ” …. epic, monumental, change the whole world …. yadda yadda yadda …” It’s not pretty, folks.

I think one of the hardest ideas to swallow for X Scientologists, fundamentalist Scientologists and mixing practice Scientologists is just how nuts Ron was.
Nibs was so demonized that it was him that got the label of crazy.
After reading this article, I’d suggest to allow yourself to think about it. To think about all of these psycho-violent acts that Ron did to Sara.
And to revisit everything that Nibs said about his father as true.
For me, when I remember back to the time when I thought Nibs was wrong or an SP, it was the outrageousness of his claims that gave Ron cover.
It was the, “Daddy was a Satanist, Daddy was a black magician, Daddy tried invoking anti Christian demons, Daddy was a thief, Daddy stole his ideas, Daddy gave his kids phenobarbital, Daddy was violent.
We only knew of Ron from his well marketed PR. And those close to him to a degree only saw him through the eyes of celebrity.
In a metaphysical sense, if what Nibs says is true, and I believe it is; Ron dabbled in the dark arts. And that is hard to swallow. Just saying that puts me in the looney category with some of you.
Ron’s fruits are what we see today as Scientology. It is the natural evolution of a philosophy of the love of power and money.
Scientology does not bring light (well, maybe just enough for the trap) it has brought much darkness to many families and friends.
Metaphysically speaking, Ron invoked the darkness. Ron evoked the negative force. That is how he gained power.
“The only way to control people is to lie to them”……………
WHAT KIND OF PERSON WOULD INVOKE THIS IN HIS WRITINGS?????!!!!!!!
AND HOW DOES HE KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE IF HE HAS NOT USED IT TO CONTROL??????!!!!!
“By their fruits you shall know them” Mathew 7:15-16
Brian says
Just a heads up; if you scroll down to comments in this article. You can read the army of trolls amassed to fly cover for Ron’s crimes against people.
One of the great crimes in Scientology is turning otherwise normal decent people into lying attack dogs.
Gone is their personal conscience, replaced by Bolivar. Gone is their sense of a moral compass.
“I am not interested in wog morality”
“We are not moralists” L Ron Hubbard
Once L Ron Hubbard has been elevated to the “only one true savior”, your mind is then open to receive his teaching of darkness.
Then the fallacious reasoning of harming SPs for the greater good can do its job of corrupting your consciousness with hate and justified violence against critics.
How can this not be seen as a corrupting negative force???????!!!!

The kind of person who would invoke this in their writing ?
A person with narcissistic personality disorder.
Narcissists, because they lack the conscience brought on by empathy, have a lot of practice with lies and manipulation to obtain what they want. That’s often what they do since childhood.
They also tend to mistake the trust and love given to them with stupidity, because that trust and love is what makes people believe their often clumsy lies rather than the obvious, visible truth.
I have no doubt that Hubbard’s wives and children were victims of violence, a violence combined with a potent dose of gaslighting which made his victims sound crazy. Victims of gaslighting often have a very hard time distinguishing what is real from what is imagined. They are stuck in a pattern of believing the lies which are constantly fed to them, and approach any new information using the lies as a null hypothesis – they have a model of realty built on the lies, which they must disprove, piece by piece. It takes a lot of patience to deconstruct that pattern, because they are not conscious of it. For this reason I would take Nibs account with a grain of salt, but without doubting that he’s been victimized – his own confused account itself is evidence that something bad happened to him, and knowing the piece of work that was his father, it was probably very traumatic.
A person with NPD who does not get their way, or gets insulted in some way – and boy do they get insulted easily and from things that would not bother a normal human being – will lash out without any concern as to how it hurts those close to them. Add to this that their emotional regulation is mostly absent (a bit like a 3-year-old), and you have a nice recipe for an abusive spouse/parent.
Another striking characteristic is that they will never acknowledge that they have done something wrong – if it is brought up, they will either gaslight or redirect. They will press the reset button endlessly, but on YOUR end of the relationship only. If YOU have done something wrong however, there will be no end to it.
I’ve met with and interacted with a person whose thought processes resemble those Hubbard displayed. He called his lying, humiliating and isolating of people “cornering” them, and delighted in doing it, even to people he purported to like or love. And what’s even more alarming is that he apparently did this for shits and giggles, as those people had never done any harm to him and there was nothing to be gained from such actions.
That’s what you’re dealing with – one very, very sick human being who by a fluke of destiny got enough power to feed his narcissism on a grand scale.
WhatWall says
Bi-polar narcissist perhaps? Hubbard seemed prone to big ups & downs.

Unlike the Portland, British, Spanish, German, or Austrailian court cases which at least deemed Scientology a religious belief system that people are free to legally practice, it’s interesting to see how this Belgium case didn’t even acknowledge that low-bar. All that was said is that these criminal charges are being dropped; nothing about the religion itself.
Miscaviagehas found a way to lower the bar further; forget legitimacy, let’s just not get convicted.

After all the delays, postponements and dismissal of charges against Churches of Scientology what is left? Orgs and missions that are still out-ethics and bringing new charges against the church. Is that a win? Is that global expansion? All the Scientologists in Elizabeth, NJ (the ORIGINAL home of L. Ron Hubbard’s FIRST Dianetics Research Foundation) near where I live, all OT V or above (approximately 15 OT Scientologists in the area from FLAG) have all BLOWN the city. Not left, BLOWN. There is a difference. In the wake they have left behind a Spanish speaking dentist to “fill in the gap” “treat” or “clear” the city’s 65,000+ non English speaking residents. The city has a total population of 130,000. Is that IAS OT’s creating a new world? 🙂

Lawrence did they blow the city or blow scientology?
In South Africa I would guess 75% of ot5 and above scientologists have quit in the last 3 years..
Curious on other estimates per city.

They are still in the church, although it would seem to me, they wish they weren’t. They made a lot of promises they never kept. They were going to make Elizabeth L. Ron Hubbard’s original city again and all kinds of stuff that never happened and then “POOF”, gone like the wind. But not without coming to my house first to bang on the doors to make a statement. 🙂
