It is relevant to nothing current, it just encapsulated so much of Hubbard’s approach.
His overriding concern with “bad publicity.”
His remedy was not auditing — which he claimed was the only cure to “aberration” and bad behavior — but to “beat their teeth in personally.”
I assume this piece is from an OOD’s item on the Apollo, he was a little more careful in his broad public statements. Though “I would have taken such a screwball out of the running so fast he would have thought he had been hit by a Mack truck, and I don’t mean thought-wise” in one of his Professional Auditor Bulletins is pretty graphic.
This is the blessing that makes it OK for Sea Org members to engage in physical assault. That sort of thing starts at the top — it began with Hubbard, was popularized widely by David Miscavige, and is now standard operating procedure throughout the Sea Org.
I just gave a look at two filmed interviews he did. One at sainthill and the other in granada. Well what do I see here is not really a good PR demonstration. Lies, no answers watered blabla.
What is scientology? Well is like asking what there is inside the Encyclopedia Britannica.

While this leads to some behaviour that’s pretty difficult to excuse, at least the explanation is that Hubbard coerced his followers into acting out his sociopathic tendencies while lying to themselves about what they were doing and why.
I worked with Hubbard in 1974 during his beneficent period. Feb to July. That however did not stop his underlings from harassing crew and making their life miserable. He was making a lot of money through the Orgs so he was less volatile at that time. However that was my take on it. Other crew may have other opinions. He also developed the OT Drug rundown at that time. That was certainly bogus.
Notice that when DM was being groomed by Hubbard as an adolescent, it was during these formative years that LRH’s culture of violence was imparted on his impressionable brain.
In many ways, despite popular opinion, DM is as a much a victim of Hubbard as any of LRH’s Mack truck victims. DM learned to abuse and assault others as an ideal workable way to get control in. Granted, his likely alpha male genetics lended well to this role. Regardless, DM was a child while being taught and rewarded for using violence as a means for getting his way, and LRH was the Source.
Yes, and the height-stunting steroids he was allegedly taking in those years surely didn’t help the COB’s temperament.

And not only that, but I’ve noticed that Co$ investigators (both OSA and the hired guns) often seem to follow the same “James Bond Villain” school of thought as ol’ Hubs when it comes to “covert” and/or “incognito” attempts at “intelligence gathering.”
Mind you, I’m not talking about the whole “noisy investigation” aspect of Fair Game, but rather their seemingly genuine attempts at covert intel gathering. For example: in an era when few if any people read actual newspapers in public, ostentatiously peeking at the same person, repeatedly, over the top of a newspaper does NOT help one to blend in! Nor is it particularly covert to pretend to talk on one’s phone whilst actually using it to film others…especially when dressed in an outfit that appears to have been pulled straight from the “cheap private dick” wardrobe section of a 1980s era police show prop room. (Gold chains, loud Hawaiian shirt, porkpie hat and greasy hair.)
OSA guys, really— nobody expects you to have the sort of full-on fantasy technology that exists solely as movie magic in “Mission Impossible” type thrillers, (except perhaps TC or DM) but even I know that cheap, reliable pinhole cameras ARE a thing! Plus, they’re a thing which Co$/OSA, in particular, really don’t have ANY excuse to not know about, since they’ve been used by countless investigative journalists around the world to expose the sleazy goings-on at innumerable orgs!
But I guess Hubs never knew about such things, so it doesn’t matter that gadgets like his beloved sideways-lens spy cameras and “fake facial hair tech” have evolved almost beyond recognition? So OSA just has to keep on keepin’ on, as if “MacGyver” was still the pinnacle of sooper sekrut spy stuff.
Although, I suppose we all should be grateful that Hubbard never lived in the era of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D?” Because if he did, I have no doubt he’d be hysterically shrieking at his poor minions to get him a holographically cloaked jet and a nanomask for his incognito strolls with the aforementioned fawning nymphettes.
p.s. “Fawning nymphettes” might be a new favorite phrase for me! I just need to figure out how to work it into everyday conversation…

When I was in the EU, Walter Kotric was the Co CLO. By the way I still haven’t understood what happened to him. His wife Zara is now the Co NewEra.
Walter had been staff at HouseUnit, hubbard’s personal org. And he knew him in person.
So he often told stories about Lrh.
He once told us that he and others were in a market shopping. In their lane Lrh arrived who was happy and told them that he was experimenting with a tech recovered from the track to be invisible. Then he went away. After a while Walter and the others thought that they could not leave him alone but he was already “gone into thin air”.
To be honest I don’t know if Kotric lied or hubbard was already on his way to being unstable.
Another story that made me really wonder was when hubbard was on a ranch or somewhere else where there was a fish pond. When he stepped over a small bridge the fish ran away. And it seems he got particularly pissed off because all the fish had run away.
I thought: you are not San Francesco and of course, fish swim!
I was also in EU for many years, CLO EU most of the time. Last thing I heard was that Kotric was busted and got re-posted in LA, some low menial post. Just rumour though.
Btw, he learnt well from Hubby, he could be very congenial and entertaining but when he got pissed off (quite often) he smacked people around too. Even gave a black eye to poor Franky Delalez when he was around 13!

In his writings Hub fancied himself as a tough guy. Did he play any sports growing up? Did he ever show any toughness or was he a blowhard like he was about everything else?

His teachings ARE criminal which is why “Independent Scamology” is dangerous too. E.g. touting his NUTS for OTs material as it causes those dupes to eschew medical treatment; instead they pick and flick BT’s. I know at LEAST 5 people who were somewhere on the NUTS band who died from cancer because they tried BT flicking instead of real medical treatment until it was WAY too late.
Very true. I cannot even count the large number of dead people I knew after seventeen years in scientology. Maria, the sweetest lady from Switzerland, refused treatment for cancer and died in less than one year. I could go on and on.
Yes, the worst for me was a guy who knew Hubtard from the Arizona time period and I knew for almost as long, and 40 years later was on NUTS and died of brain cancer he refused to get real medical treatment for. I silently mark them as victims of Hubtard and Scamology.

I’ve never been on the OT levels. Nor clear. I am proudly a purif completion.
However, both in Brescia and in Milan I met OT 8s in poor condition. And it was really shocking to see them as they were physically reduced.
In my opinion, what I understand is that “rummaging” in what hubbard calls OT levels is actually doing something else and there are consequences immediately or in the long run.
No one who has not taken his life back in his hand can truly say that he has arrived somewhere.
Like that horror movie “Don’t open that door!”.
In the last 3 years there have been 2 scientologists in my surroundings who have done OTV in sh uk and upon returning had sleeping problems and consequently had a mental breakdown.
In scientologese – they went type-3. Another, OT8 completion got so ill she literally had 1 foot in the grave due to some vague illness. Very OT. It’s very sad as they are all very nice people but they wouldn’t, not even for an instant question the validity of ‘the tech’.

Derek, sadly interesting to hear that OT8 and other levels still produce mental and psychosomatic problems, as was infamous among the early OT8 completions. I appreciate your sharing such relatively recent inside information.
Such unfortunate effects aren’t surprising, however. As I’ve pointed out before, the abreactive therapy that Hubbard copied produced similar adverse outcomes and was abandoned, and techniques like regression produce false memory syndrome, which can also result in psychological problems. Also, when Scientology is pushing people to the point of experiencing “exteriorization,” that is probably really just disassociation, which is one step short of psychosis – so it’s also to be expected that some people would go over the edge into “PTS Type-3.”
@PeaceMaker I always wondered whether those past track ‘memories’ were real or not. I didn’t know something like ‘false memory syndrome’ existed. But it makes sense. And it happened frequently that the Cl V orgs would send a type 3 scn up to EU for ‘handling’. They had a WQSB worked out for the watches. They changed that later so the orgs handled their type-3’s locally. But yeah, when you’re a staff or SO member you WILL eventually be confronted with psychotics – whether it be your seniors or genuine type-3’s! (that was a bad joke).
Derek, “past track” memories in Scientology are not real – they and supposed very early memories like birth or pre-natal are related to false memory syndrome phenomenon as happened, infamously, when therapists who were subtly leading small children got them to “remember” satanic ritual child abuse in preschools. Wikipedia has a pretty good explanation of the phenomenon, which has actually been pretty well studied, both through investigating and debunking cases like that of the infamous Bridey Murphy, and in experiments in which researchers put subjects through regression techiques and then traced the origins of the false recollections elicited:
“The “memories” recovered by techniques like past-life regression are the result of cryptomnesia: narratives created by the subconscious mind using imagination, forgotten information and suggestions from the therapist.[sources 1] Memories created under hypnosis are indistinguishable from actual memories and can be more vivid than factual memories.[3][26] The greatest predictor of individuals reporting memories of past lives appears to be their beliefs—individuals who believe in reincarnation are more likely to report such memories, while skeptics or disbelievers are less so.[2][6]”
