This is the sixth "vacation" post, revisiting some of the more important articles to have appeared on my blog over the years. The original post and comments is here. Is scientology homophobic? There has been considerable discussion about this. In today's world, where it is no longer socially acceptable to be anti-gay, scientology has taken steps to attempt to portray itself as tolerant and welcoming of the LGBT community. But similar to scientology's claims that disconnection "doesn't exist" or is simply a "personal choice," the PR smokescreen hides an ugly and unp … [Read more...]
Episode 63: Former SO Member Nora Ames
This week we welcome Nora Ames, former SO member and outspoken whistleblower concerning the hypocrisy of scientology's rampant homophobia. She has one of the most incredible and harrowing escape from the Sea Org stories. We cover it in some detail, as well as what she did to get her mother out of scientology. Both her father and mother were scientology Guardian Office workers. Nora's video from 2016 on Tony Ortega's Underground Bunker. The Astonishing Hypocrisy of Scientology’s STAND League
The STAND League has me on a bit of a roll. This ragtag collection of "defenders of the faith" (some of them no doubt doing an "amends project" for some transgression, others doing it to gain "eligibility" for their OT levels) comes up with the craziest stuff. They try to categorize people by association. When Hollis Jane Andrews tweeted about a crazy list of duties for a babysitter job for a scientologist, she earned the ire of the passengers in the STAAD league clown car. Nobody claimed the bonkers list of demands she included were untrue, they simply went after her as a … [Read more...]
Episode 33: Media and Political Journalist Yashar Ali
We are joined this week by media and politics reporter Yashar Ali. Yashar has done over a dozen stories related to scientology and more are coming. Yashar was recently named one of Time magazine's 25 most influential people on the internet: You can follow Yashar on Twitter: @Yashar, Instagram: yasharali and Facebook: Yashar Ali With his background in politics and the media we had a lot to talk about: Scientology celebrities and how the media fails to h … [Read more...]
Scientology Lies About LGBTQ
Someone sent this Instagram post to me recently. It is the perfect example of scientology saying one thing publicly to be “acceptable” (Hubbard called this an “acceptable truth”) and what they actually believe and practice. As you may have noticed, they also make a big deal about celebrating Christmas but do not believe in Christ. They also claim you can be a scientologist and any other religion but that is a lie that was disproven when asked about it by the IRS and admitted it was not true (it’s an indicia of a real religion that it’s a single faith - you are not both Catholic and Protestant, … [Read more...]
Scientology Homophobia
Is scientology homophobic? There has been considerable discussion about this. In today's world, where it is no longer socially acceptable to be anti-gay, scientology has taken steps to attempt to portray itself as tolerant and welcoming of the LGBT community. But similar to scientology's claims that disconnection "doesn't exist" or is simply a "personal choice," the PR smokescreen hides an ugly and unpleasant reality. At its heart, scientology IS very homophobic. Here is the truth as I experienced it, growing up in scientology and then being a senior official in the church for many y … [Read more...]
