In my recent YouTube video about Scientology and Christianity, I read an excerpt from one of Hubbard's lectures from the Class VIII course. You can hear the relevant section of this lecture, accompanied by a slide show (you can select various sources for the slide show -- South Park, Going Clear, Panorama and some others). There can be no doubt what Hubbard is saying when you listen to the entire 10 minute excerpt. I wanted to put this up on my blog so it i … [Read more...]
L. Ron Hubbard on the Christianity “Cult”
Here is another quote from L. Ron Hubbard expressing thoughts about Christianity: “It’s an interesting thing that there exists on Earth a cult which believes a hundred percent that it has the only god there is in this universe. And this is quite an interesting thing. See, this is terribly interesting. Anybody who says he has a total monopoly on all there is of something, which you can’t weigh, see or measure, is suspect. Christianity’s gain in the world and its departure from its own announced principles were in the main in the direction of control…It is not even a major group today in Europea … [Read more...]
Can Scientologists be Christians or Jews Too?
This is the eighth "vacation" post, revisiting some of the more important articles to have appeared on my blog over the years. The original post and comments is here. Scientology likes to tell the world that you can be a scientologist and also be a Christian, Jew, Buddhist or anything else. This is an "acceptable truth" (defined by Hubbard this way: Handling truth is a touchy business also. You don't have to tell everything you know-that would jam the comm line too. Tell an acceptable truth. Agreement with one's message is what PR is seeking to achieve. Thus the message m … [Read more...]
L. Ron Hubbard on Christianity
Had I been thinking straight, I would have posted this yesterday on Easter Sunday. As is often the case, I am a day late and a dollar short. Though I can try to salvage some face by noting Easter Monday is a major holiday in Australia and a lot of other countries... I have done a few earlier posts about Hubbard's view of Christianity, most notably Can Scientologists be Christians or Jews Too? But while looking for some other materials I came across some interesting things I had not seen before. In 1954, looking to increase the revenues of scientology (it is a long sordid tale of … [Read more...]
Spiritualist Movements
This is a rather lengthy dissertation by long term commenter George M. White, who was one of the first OT VIII completions (that is him above on the Freewinds at graduation). I am publishing it as he sent it to me. He mentioned this when I saw him at a party recently and I offered to put it on the blog. It makes reference to a document called "Student Briefing" and I have included that for your reference at the end of his piece. Spiritualist Movements, Hypnotism, and the Natural Science Model used in the development of Scientology ©by George M. White, 2020 George M. … [Read more...]
It’s Easter at the Ft Harrison: Christians Not Welcome
Easter is a uniquely Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Scientologists do NOT believe in Christ -- though Hubbard gave lip service to the idea that "we want the same things Jesus wanted, peace on earth and goodwill for all men" (though even that is not true as great wealth was NOT a goal of Jesus, and goodwill for all men is NOT a goal of scientology -- especially those deemed to be enemies). To be precise, it was even more vague and condescending, Hubbard said: "Scientology can demonstrate that it can attain the goals set for man by Christ, which are: Wisdom, … [Read more...]
