Going Clear is available on Netflix. If you have not seen this, take the time to watch it. If you haven’t watched it since it first came out a decade or so ago, it’s worth re-watching. This documentary had massive impact on the way the world viewed Scientology. And paved the way for so much that has come since - including The Aftermath (which is available for free on Tubi). The story that is told and how is laid out is brilliant — facts about Hubbard and Scientology and interviews are brought together to paint a devastating picture that is beyond dispute. … [Read more...]
It’s March 13th – Where’s Ron?
One of the two major holidays in scientology commemorates the birth of L. Ron Hubbard on 13 March 1911 in Tilden Nebraska (the other is the publication date of Dianetics on May 9, 1950). Hubbard occupies a unique place in scientology. He is revered almost like a God. Scientologists consider him infallible -- his every written and spoken word to be taken as truth and applied literally. If Hubbard says there are implant stations on Mars, no scientologist doubts this "fact." When he proclaims that smoking doesn't cause cancer, not smoking enough does -- they known he speaks the truth, as … [Read more...]
A Billion Years UK & Australia Editions Update
As many of you know, there have been some difficulties with Amazon concerning the non-US edition being published by Humfrey Hunter and Silvertail Books. Sadly, the problems with A Billion Years caused all of Silvertail's titles to be removed from Amazon, which hurt other authors they publish. Through a lot of hard work and persistence, Humfrey has now resolved the issue and all his books are back up. But titles that were previously noted as "bestsellers" have been reset to "zero." Any pre-orders of A Billion Years will likely have been lost (check your Amazon account) and you will … [Read more...]
A Billion Years: My Escape from a Life in the Highest Ranks of Scientology
I have finally written a book. It was announced in a press release today -- it will be available on 27 September. You can find it at the Simon and Schuster website where there are links to all major retailers to pre-order if you are so inclined. There is also a description of the book and some initial reviews from Leah, Alex Gibney, Lawrence Wright and John Sweeney. It's taken a long time to put together. I hope it doesn't disappoint any of you who have been asking me to write a book. I am about to begin recording the audiobook. The press … [Read more...]
Episode 66: Dr. Willy Rice Pastor of Calvary Baptist Clearwater
We welcome Dr. Willy Rice, Senior Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater to the podcast. Willy has been one of the few community leaders who has taken a strong, public stance against the abuses of scientology. We talk about the influence of scientology in the community and the lie that you can a Christian and a scientologist. Below are the documents we talk about in the episode. The infamous OT VIII document scientology claims is a forgery that contains the following passage: [T]he historic Jesus was not nearly the sainted figure has been made out to be. … [Read more...]
Episode 3: Scientology’s War on the Media with Richard Behar
We were very fortunate to speak with Richard Behar on this week's episode of the Fair Game podcast. Rich, along with Pauletter Cooper (who will feature in an upcoming episode) is a poster child for scientology Fair Game against journalists. He is an award-winning investigative journalist who first wrote about scientology in 1986 for Forbes magazine in an article entitled The Prophet and Profits of Scientology. His most famous scientology piece was the 1991 Time magazine cover story, The Thriving Cult of Greed and Power. The subhead on his article pretty much sums up … [Read more...]
Let the Scientology Fair Game Begin
I mentioned in my post on Sunday that I would let Leah respond to the latest bs about her from Ed Parkin. He should know by now not to poke the bear. Here is what Leah has to say. As only Leah can say it. Scientology uses a practice called Fair Game, these are directives and activities that seek to discredit and destroy anyone and anything Scientology considers a threat to their vile, illegal, and criminal practices. The practice of Fair Game by Scientology, its employees and parishioners is nothing new. It has gone on for decades. Here are some of the “Operations” carried ou … [Read more...]
Conversations With Scientologists
A couple of people have recently sent me copies of email correspondence they have had with people in the church. They were not working together, but both hit upon the same concept: responding to church efforts to get new people in or collect money from existing public and using this as an opportunity to present some facts to people they might not otherwise be able to reach. It is also interesting to see the reactions, responses and "pitches" that are employed. This first is with a Mission who had advertised a Big League Sales Seminar. The responses from the mission person are in … [Read more...]
