Not that this is big news... scientology is operating on a blatant double standard. I saw this on the STAAD twitter feed. Now of course, we could do an even better headline -- SCIENTOLOGY SUPPORTS ALLEGED RAPIST DANNY MASTERSON. The difference in the two cases is rather striking. The accuser of Haggis NEVER FILED a police complaint. In fact, the main accuser tried to get money from Paul Haggis to remain silent. HE went to law enforcement to report this. Masteron's victims all went to law enforcement -- and there are 4 of them of have filed police complaints and now after … [Read more...]
The “Mike Rinder Problem”
Scientology has come up with a new attack line -- the "Mike Rinder Problem." It is quite an honor to be singled out so specifically, especially as I am according to them merely a "bobblehead" (though a "wife-beating" one so that is apparently a bigger deal). They shifted their attacks from Nancy Dubuc to Paul Buccieri in a deft strategic move. Their clever PR maneuvers are a sight to behold. According to scientology, the "Mike Rinder Problem" is this: "Like the classic wife beater that he is, Rinder digs in his heels and refuses to admit he injured his former wife Cathy during an i … [Read more...]
The Scientology “Debunked Conspiracy Theory” Response
Scientology sent a statement to the press about our Paul Haggis post. As with everything in scientology's PR denial closet, you have to read it closely and parse its terminology carefully. Scientology mastered the technique of "depends upon what the meaning of the word 'is' is" long before Bill Clinton came along. Here is the statement in the Hollywood Reporter: In a statement, the Church of Scientology responded to Remini and Rinder's letter. The Church's full response is below: Leah Remini, Paul Haggis and Mike Rinder have predictably thrown up a reprehensible smokescreen to turn … [Read more...]
Concerning Paul Haggis
There is plenty of reason to worry about defending anyone accused of sexual assault in today’s climate. But the fear of consequences for speaking our truth has not held us back in the past and isn’t about to start now. We have supported victims of sexual abuse who have reached out to us and have worked with them and law enforcement to ensure justice is done for both victims and the accused. We have avoided trial by media. In this time of heightened awareness of sexual predators, it is easy to remain quiet when an injustice is being perpetrated for fear of being tarred as politically inc … [Read more...]
About Paul Haggis
This statement from Paul Haggis' ex-wife Deborah was published a few days ago. Though I put it on Facebook and Twitter, I want to spread it as widely as possible as I feel what she has to say is important, and it matches what I know of Paul. He, like all of us, has his flaws. But what I do know is that he is a gentleman in every sense of the word, and a generous and kind man who spends more time caring about and trying to help others than anyone I know. I also refer readers back to my earlier post Framing Whistleblowers -- The Scientology Playbook A STATEMENT FROM AN EX-WIFE As a … [Read more...]
Scientology’s Response to Episode 6
Here is my customary response to the weekly scientology insanity that appears on their website during the airing of each episode of The Aftermath. Anyone who sees the vile invective spewed by scientology about EVERYONE who ever says anything they don't like reaches the same conclusion: scientology's reaction is evidence of the truth of the experiences each of these people recounts. This organization is hateful, vindictive and insane. No story is too incredible to be believed. There is no reason NOT to believe everything that is said by the victims. So, let's take a look at this week's … [Read more...]
Scientology Homophobia
Is scientology homophobic? There has been considerable discussion about this. In today's world, where it is no longer socially acceptable to be anti-gay, scientology has taken steps to attempt to portray itself as tolerant and welcoming of the LGBT community. But similar to scientology's claims that disconnection "doesn't exist" or is simply a "personal choice," the PR smokescreen hides an ugly and unpleasant reality. At its heart, scientology IS very homophobic. Here is the truth as I experienced it, growing up in scientology and then being a senior official in the church for many y … [Read more...]
Scientology Fact Verification
David "Let Him Die" Miscavige responded to a recent posting on Tony Ortega's website about Paul Haggis being trolled by a "Time magazine" reporter. Page Six reprinted his response (or at least part of it). Here is the quote attributed to Karin Pouw: ‘As I told [The Hollywood Reporter] and others, no one named Mark Webber works for the Church anywhere much less in Los Angeles. There is no such IP address at the Anthony Building on Fountain Avenue–it does not exist. The entire story is fabricated.’ ‘A quick internet search does find a Mark Webber, a movie curator and writer who lives in … [Read more...]
Scientology Responds To Paul Haggis — Sort Of
The Hollywood Reporter published an open letter written by Paul Haggis this morning. In typical Haggis style, he zero'd in on the crux of the matter and showed himself once again to be a man of principle and dignity who clearly articulates his calm and well reasoned points. Of course, Karin (David Miscavige) Pouw just HAD to respond. In a page out of their normal "attack the attacker" playbook, they launched an illogical, poorly composed ad hominem assault on Paul Haggis. It does not respond to a SINGLE POINT of his Open Letter. It is so ridiculous that I am reprinting it here in full. Th … [Read more...]
