Leah recently reminded me of this wonderful website, and in particular, this article by my old friend Jeff Hawkins. Jeff is one of the kindest, smartest and most decent people I know. When Miscavige blew him off, he lost one of the only real marketing geniuses in scientology. Jeff was responsible for the single successful marketing campaign in scientology -- returning Dianetics to the top of the NY Times bestseller list in the 80's. He is a wonderful writer -- I highly recommend his book Counterfeit Dreams -- and a thoughtful analyst of the world of scientology. I am taking the liberty … [Read more...]
Mad Scientologist John Mappin At It Again
This guy is a walking disaster zone. He probably thinks this is "good" media. He is well known as a scientologist, in fact identified here as a "Scientologist and soft porn actor..." This is a recent tweet from him... It seems there are a good number of scientologists who have fallen prey to the Q conspiracy theories. They show up o0n social media and in emails that circulate around inside the bubble. It's not much of a leap from the ramblings of Hubbard about the government, world bank, Big Pharma, psychs etc etc to the wild claims of Q. The … [Read more...]
Curious?
Scientology continues to run this stale campaign -- the photo above was taken by one of our readers (Doug Sprinkle) 3 days ago. This is the sign in front of "Big Blue" on Sunset Blvd. Here's what Doug said: I'm in Los Angeles and I drove by big blue. I thought you might find the attached picture funny. I rode around the building and the security guy on the bicycle seem to be looking at me suspiciously. I saw several people running around in a hurry but they all appeared to be staff. I saw one person going in the building that looked like she might have been public. If t … [Read more...]
The Virtual IAS Event
This year's IAS event is going to be "virtual." It's a fundraising catastrophe for scientology as this is their biggest single event for raking in cash. Undaunted, they put out a "press release" on a paid news service. Of course it gets no pickup in the media at all, as it contains no news. But you can find it online. Below is the full release, 100% hype and bs. The back-patting "quotes" are from themselves. And their big accomplishment is apparently that some agency in Spain includes the IAS event as a scientology holiday in their "educational calendar." Wow, that is an astonishing … [Read more...]
Some PR Advice from L. Ron Hubbard
I came across this the other day. It is relevant to nothing current, it just encapsulated so much of Hubbard's approach. His overriding concern with "bad publicity.” His remedy was not auditing -- which he claimed was the only cure to "aberration" and bad behavior -- but to "beat their teeth in personally." I assume this piece is from an OOD's item on the Apollo, he was a little more careful in his broad public statements. Though "I would have taken such a screwball out of the running so fast he would have thought he had been hit by a Mack truck, and I don't mean thought-wise" in o … [Read more...]
Scientology “Tech” Backfires Again
Marlow Stern has written quite a number of stories relating to scientology. They have often questioned scientology's practices and have failed to regurgitate the scientology propaganda they try to feed the media. That makes him an "enemy." And what does Hubbard say about enemies? You threaten what they seek to protect and cost them their jobs. See this post for the exact words from Hubbard: Dealing with Critics of Scientology: The L. Ron Hubbard Playbook What never ceases to amaze me is how proudly scientology comes right out with the very worst of themselves, proving time and time again w … [Read more...]
Words of Wisdom from Louis Farrakhan
I am not sure who sent this to me, but it is an interesting collection of quotes from the leader of the Nation of Islam: The brazen racism and Antisemitism is breathtaking. And yet, it was just announced that Abdul Malik Sayyid (formerly Tony Muhammad), his Western Regional Director, had attested to the state of Clear... Alfraudie, in his tweet making the announcement, even acknowledges the great "HON MLF" (Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan). Scientology is SO desperate to try to attract members they are still hitching their wagon to the idea they are making inroads into … [Read more...]
Dear Leader Speaks
Captain David Miscavige, scientology's capo di tutti capo, has reportedly weighed in on the COVID-19 pandemic. But apparently his words are too special to be read by mere "wogs" -- or even any scientologist who cannot get into an org. He issued an IG NW Bulletin (Inspector General Network) "No. 88" where he provides a message of "leadership and care." Having been around when his last "Call to Arms" was issued after 9/11, it is easy to conclude what his message of leadership and care is. (I was originally told to write this issue for him with Lyman Spurlock but of course … [Read more...]
Scientology and COVID-19
You may have seen this pitch and others on Tony's site and social media. Flaunting government guidelines recommending no gatherings of more than 10 people, scientology instead uses the pandemic as a reason to encourage people to COME IN TO THE ORG. It's batshit crazy. Take a read and I will then try to explain the madness from a scientology perspective. Admittedly, that one was before the stricter requirements for social distancing were in force in California, but then, after the Governor ordered that everyone stay in their homes, this one came in: A combination of … [Read more...]
City Councilman Mark Bunker and Scientology Tax Exempt Status
The news has sunk in, Mark Bunker is now a Clearwater City Commissioner-elect. As Tracey McManus put it, this is a historic day for Clearwater. There is another piece in the Tampa Bay Times (top of article screencapped above) this morning. It makes some interesting points - first of which is noting Bunker's "desire for the city to urge the IRS to revoke Scientology's tax exempt status..." Some have poo-poo'd this idea "The City of Clearwater doesn't grant tax exempt status, the IRS does" -- as if Mark Bunker is unaware of the difference between a city government and the … [Read more...]
