Basel a Bust
They sent out their first promo piece on Monday — for an event on Saturday:
They are already hitting people up for MORE money, even before it’s opened.
The tiny org in the small city is made “ideal” and meanwhile, the “big org” in the big city, Zurich, goes nowhere. Go figure. Sort of like Malmo and Stockholm. Inglewood and Valley. Nashville and Boston.
Oh, The Lies….
Mr. OT Hatting hisself has teamed up with Rafferty Pendery — though they cannot spell his name right — son of IAS “Freedom Medal Winner”, OSA stooge and general flim-flam man, Rick Pendery. But what they DONT tell you is that his elderly grandma has paid for every service he has ever taken (no wonder he could afford all those services) and also supports his “business.” It’s pretty easy to be in “Phase II” when you don’t have to actually EARN any money…
We Are On Hold
For some reason they are not allowed to contact and salvage the 4 million right now? They are too busy beating themselves up to hand over money to focus on “contacting and salvaging” the Valley. Gotta have that big chapel first — Inglewood proved that. Hell, they have a whole community center…. Imagine how far they would have gotten without it.
Mass Moonie Wedding?
Have they found a new income stream? Renting out their empty org to the Moonies to do weddings? They rent Applied Scholastics Headquarters to the NOI for a “couples weekend” why not the vacant Pasadena org for a big Moonie style coupling?
More Mystery Sandwiches
Mystery and food seems to be a theme this week…
Another Mystery Celebrity
Sure seem to be a lot of these unnamed “celebrities.”
Circle of Jerks
All these fools from the other failing “ideal” orgs are going to help Valley now. Willful blindness. Led by the cardboard cutout, Vicki Shantz.
Food and Regges
Somehow they fail to mention the army of regges hovering over the cheese blintzes.
IAS Chicken Wings
When all you have to get the suckers in the door is wings, things are not looking good.
But there IS a special briefing by “Mr.” Jackson Wyan. Clearly he is less of a draw than the bread and wings.
Money. Money. Money.
They love the euphemisms, but every one of these things is about persuading you to turn over cash. The ONLY reason they are interested in anyone making more is so they can hand it over.
Sinking Ship
Ethics and finance? In scientology, those two words cannot appear in the same sentence together. Let alone a headline.
Worst. Photoshop. Ever.
I thought Vicki Shantz was bad until I got to this one.
And yeah, the experts on children will tell you how its done…
Free Dinner
And Michael Chan will tell you everything you need to know about living life so you will not need anything from scientology. He has all the answers. They are free. And they feed you.
Too good to be true?
You betcha…
More Hope
If Michael Chan doesn’t float your boat to the registrar, let Michael Lewis do it for you. AOLA has become a hangout for professional FSMs to try and make commissions.
Orange County
Another “booming” “ideal” org that promotes individual completions (because they don’t have enough to do anything else) and even then, a big win that more than a year after it was released and is required of every scientologist, the D/ED of the org finally completed the new, faster, better and standardery (“everyone gets through in checksheet time”) Student Hat.
The Psychs Are Coming
They are invading society, STARTING right in Harlem…. Another of the cultural epicenters of earth I guess.
Gold is Coming!
You better show up, we are trying to pretend we are far more active than we really are….
Hey Team Valley,
Gold will be filming our next OTC meeting on Tuesday the 21st at 7:30.
This is being done for the MV event. We want to show them how BIG the Valley really is. They’ve all heard stories but they’ve never seen the actual team.
We are legendary having raised 8 mill in this MV year.
Please come and ask everyone to come. It will be super fun and only add to our fame.
Love
Kathy
How sad — they have sucked 8 million out of their faithful in the last year and they STILL cannot do anything.
More “Gold” filming happening:
A Special Guest speaker from Salt Lake — the NON “ideal org” is coming to splain things to the people of Denver, the “ideal org” about how they should give them money. Should be a blast for the 3 people that show up.
I wonder if their ideal “region” includes any plans for even establishing an org at all in Nebraska, Wyoming, North or South Dakota, Oklahoma, Idaho?
Nah, probably not. In the last 50 years there hasn’t been anything done in those areas, so why start now. Let’s just pretend Utah and Colorado are a “region.”
Unite II
Funny, the psychs seem to be rolling forward, opening a 450,000 sq ft building and you are still struggling to complete the 45,000 sq ft building that was announced 10 years ago with a CGI fly through. What is wrong with this picture?
And you are not only promoting it. You are doing it TWICE!
This is the scientology victim card. The most worn one in the whole deck.
Regraded Being
From now on, Regraded Being will be its own post on Fridays. This is for two reasons:
1. The cartoons are so popular, they deserve their own day
2. You can see there is now a section on the home page for Regraded Being so you can see all the cartoons. Administratively, it makes it much easier to add the new cartoon each week if they are a separate post.
Tomorrow’s is a goodie…

as an endlessly fascinated outsider, i would’ve assumed the quality of graphics, typography, and visuals in general would’ve been of higher quality for some reason. also, the reference to the Harlem Renaissance is offense to the work and memory of all artists involved in the movement and anyone who respects literature, music and the humanities in general.

Rafferty Pendery (did I spell it right?) is not the only second, or third generation Scientologist to have his complete Bridge paid for by his parents or grandparents. This is a growing trend and one I’ve seen many times in L.A. I know three young people auditing on OT VII, that have had all of their services paid for by their parents. Not a good sign for the future of the church, in my opinion. New people are not joining in sufficient numbers to support the church into the future and parents are paying for their kids services. I’m not seeing these particular kids super motivated to go out there, work hard and earn money either. Why should they have to struggle to pay for The Bridge when Mom and Dad will step in because it’s so important to them that the whole family be Clear/OT? But hey, whatever people do with their money is their own business and I really don’t care. It just doesn’t bode well for the church. Maybe that’s a good thing.
Joe Pendleton says
Wear white? (well, I guess that eliminates a celebration of Johnny Cash’s or Roy Orbison’s music) How about a T shirt and briefs?
Pepper says
I think it’s a “White Party.” A hip thing to do these days. White Party has several definitions in the Urban Dictionary. Here’s the top definition from the Urban Dictionary:
A party in which all participants wear white. I used to think that a white party was meant only for white people but i learned that the “white” means that only white apparel and clothes are to be worn.

It is amazing how much they charge to eat at some of these fundraisers. It is totally ridiculous, because people are running from the cult, rather than toward it. Switching gears, I have been reading “Bare Faced Messiah”, and I am currently on Chapter 6, “The Hero Who Never Was”. This chapter delineates just how far from being a “war hero” Ron actually was. Ron was into self importance, and always wanted to be a leader, and then when he got a leadership position, he failed, and had to be reassigned more than once to other duties. It chaps my hide that Scientology for years put out the lie that Ron was “blind and crippled” by the war and “healed himself” of his injuries. Moreover, they let on that he was a war hero. It is very disrespectful of the faithful to lie to them. And to think that I, like many, for awhile believed it..

Rant Alert/Leather Bounds:
Very high on my Annoyance List of all things Miscavigist. Its just so MEST-y and and pretentious. I read a lot, always have. People who read are into content, not context. Collectors are sometimes into leather-bound editions and such. Mostly its just stupid to put emphasis on the cover of a book. As regards LRH’s books, I honestly believe he would be embarrassed about this. Instead of selling books in book stores they’re being hawked on makeshif tables in shopping malls. In New York City, when I was there, they were being hawked in subways, the stress test tables right next to musicians, clowns and other such urban street pageantry. And the still ins who already have bought all these books are pressed to purchase them bound in leather. Just embarrassing – on my top five list of reasons to be embarrassed to be a Scientologist. Imagine if other authors pressed their readers to purchase books they’d already bought and read – in leather – because these authors needed the money. Imagine if other churches forced leather bound Bibles on their congregations – because they needed the money. Too embarrassing. Ok, end of rant.

Excellent points–so true…and very well written..

And on a side note: the Launceston, Tasmania, branch of $cientology (which is in fact a dark dingy little shop that I’ve mentioned before) is currently closed for renovation. I’m going to watch and see what happens. I also won’t be surprised if the four five people that man (person?) the place do the upgrade work themselves.

Actually, not so much of a shock to me. Back in the day when COSMOD was operating, Sacramento was flourishing. Now that its main feeder mission network, completely dismantled by the Miscavige Administration, has been gone for so many years, it’s no wonder there is no one there. I could be wrong.

“The Beingness of a Genius”. I’m still trying to figure out what that means.
A genius in – what? Some field of endeavor? Everything? Ok, never mind. I’m going to work this out right here and now, because I’ll never be allowed in this seminar. To continue:
Beingness is not doingness or havingness. One needn’t do or have anything in order to be, therefore from what I can deduce, one would “take on” the beingness of a genius merely by postulating oneself as such.
“I am a genius (in finance, carpentry, playwrighting, in everything, in whatever I choose to be a genius in, etc. etc. ) That’s it! One IS now a genius, simply by postulate.
Good, ok, now, having postulated oneself as a genius, having taken on this beingness of a genius, the next step is to DO what a genius does. Just DO what geniuses DO that’s all. Google is your friend. Find out what geniuses have done, and the kind of problems they’ve solved, and the way the world has been changed by what they’ve created, and, you know, do that kind of stuff.
Now, doing the kind of amazing things that geniuses have been doing down the ages will bring you all of the tangible and intangible rewards and penalties of this kind of doingness. which in Scientology is called “havingness.”
Well, guys, you just got my seminar, no charge. Try it, good luck, give it your best shot, hope it works, but if not, you can always check out what Potter and Pendry have to say on the matter. Cheers.

Little OT but on the whole proving your a Brain Subject reminded me there was a book by a neuroscientist where they lay out a case for how the brain is just a filter for the spirit. I should have bought the book when I first heard of it, but anyone know the name of that book?
It gets interesting with things like how people with brain damage will draw half a clock face when asked to copy a clock, etc. Not sure if that but it’s fascinating stuff. I also would love to bring it up with neuroscientist I personal know and get his ideas on the whole thing.
While I truly now believe most people in psychiatry and related fields are truly trying to help. Though there are quite a few who have the fixed idea that man most be an animal and it’s there job to degrade and attack any “insane idiot” who says otherwise. It’s also sad that the Church of Scientology through it’s out-ethics behavior is only helping that segment of the mental health field win.
Speaking of hiding their hatred of Psychiatry haven’t all references to Psychiatry and Doctors been changed to psychs and medicos to avoid legal consequences of people not seeking proper treatment for diseases and disorders?
Sidenote, Thanks Mike for getting the regraded being comics in order, I’ll have to send to a little token of my appreciation you.

Whew – this is information overload but from the outside looking in it’s embarrassing. Mike, they must HATE you for getting your hands on all this stuff – no matter how they try to tighten security there are just too many dykes in the wall now……. Thanks for keeping us updated on the zany world of Co$.
tony-b says
Dear Shelley, It is a total and utter lie the that dykes are infiltrating the secure Scientology firewall. If we suspect them they will be put in a garbage can, labelled and ridiculed in the holesome atmosphere of the Int base Club Med as we did with Debbie Cook. We paid her and her husband millions to go quietly out of the organisation.

On the sickest of all promos they do – like the “Wake up the Genius in You” – I usually double up laughing but it almost immediately turns into being sick in the stomach. “Learn how to take on the Beingness of a Genius…” so we can fleece you at a greater magnitude than we’ve been able to so far….. Then all the smiling faces of the duped in their sea uniforms and gowns at events – it just is bad enough to actually vomit.

Nah, probably not. In the last 50 years there hasn’t been anything done in those areas, so why start now. Let’s just pretend Utah and Colorado are a “region.””
Montana was left off this list. Of course that region must already be ideal because that’s where Hubbard spent a good portion of his precocious youth. If I recall correctly, he boasted that his grandfather had a ranch that covered fully one quarter of the entire state. If someone else can verify this claim he made, then we can all call a collective ‘BULLSHIT’. Or, I could be way off base on this one.
eldritch cuckoo says
Well I don’t know about the other states but they’re definitely staying out of Wyoming and Idaho because of the slumbering (well okay, already yawning) Supervulcano there. They can’t handle all that restimulation. Besides, what sense would it make to establish a pretty Idle Org there only to see it being blown straight up and vertical in 3, 2, 1…? I think COB’s foresight is underestimated.
Ok, sorry, that probably wasn’t all too witty. But it’s my favorite apocalypse. If only…

I know they’re using the “true story” (“confidential briefing”, etc) ploy to get people there in person so that they can be regged. But also, they don’t put their idiotic claims in print because they can’t stand to be challenged in their errant facts. Chickenshit all the way. At least loony old Hubbard had the courage of his convictions. The current owner of Scientology hides, hides, hides behind confidential briefings.
“… convince man he is an animal controlled by his brain.”
Looks like they let it slip out a little. Now, I know it’s pretty common for the religious and other dualists to reject the purely physical nature of human consciousness, but it’s pretty unique how Scientology turns that into a raison d’être.
I am thrilled that the Mind Brain Behavior Institute is opening up. I can reach that place in about 10 minutes on my bike from where I live, though I don’t know for what reason I would drop in. I just like the look of the building, I guess.

Thanks John. Seems to me changing over from the old existing building to the now “Ideal” ones would be so much more expensive if the COS had to pay property taxes on the new appraised value of these buildings. I mean already they can’t afford toilet paper. Just have that wallet ready.
Do most states exempt churches?
John Locke says
overrunincalifornia, I’m sure most, if not all states, exempt churches from paying property taxes.

Does anyone know if DM ‘may his merciful countenance bless you and may he leave bus fare in your wallet after he empties it’ is going to open the Basil Idle mOrg on the 25th? Or has some cleb been roped in to do it?
Mike Rinder says
I doubt he will show. He does not consider anywhere in the vicinity of France or Germany to be “safe” for him to travel. The local “celebrity” will probably be Walter Kotric!
zemooo says
Kotric should have run when he had the chance. The only ‘completions’ Kotric shows are solo nots in 2002. Not much ‘progress’ up the ‘bridge’ is it?
Nice that DM doesn’t trust Switzerland, so where does he keep his money? I’d guess the Caymans or Antilles. The Basil mOrg shows around 100 chairs in the Auditorium. Not many seats for all the clams roped into showing up.

Mike Rinder says
YEah, just a bit….
Marie guerin says
I have to keep reminding myself that they think it is the mother’s fault , that’s how it is acceptable. There was this noise going on at some point , saying I had abandonned my pregnant daughter. All my fault. Remarkable!
Even without talking about disconnection , being a mother in the Church was never a valued thing, more of an impediment , something they couldn’t stop for the public obviously , but “drop the kid and forget it” kind of attitude .
Mother’s day brunch , AH!
Pepper says
I agree that hosting a Mother’s Day brunch at PAC is a little offensive and hypocritical. Will the Sea Org members at PAC be able to eat with their mothers who show up for the brunch? Can you imagine all the S.O. at PAC stopping to eat with their Moms? The ones who are not Disconnected that is. Let’s see that happen.
The Oracle says
Children under five years eat free? I guess starting at six now they are supposed to be toting credit cards , cold hard cash or sponsors?

Love this blog. It is so entertaining. Or maybe it’s Scientology that is so entertaining. If you like conedy. And they are really funny.

I think what you are experiencing is decades of suppressed communication and humor. Those of us who had been in for decades have recognized that the church sucks all that is good from your soul – including your sense of humor. Much of the activity on this blog is an attempt to rehab one’s sense of humor.
The church really needs a “Sense of Humor Rundown”, with questions like:
– Recall a time when you suppressed a laugh while watching COB.
– Have you never had the opportunity to make fun of LRH or Scientology but suppressed it?
– Spot something about Scientology which is ridiculous.
– Make a joke about LRH (run repetitively to EP)
– Make a joke about Scientology (run repetitively to EP)
The EP is “The restoration of one’s own sense of humor.” and “Will never allow another to destroy or undermine my sense of humor”
Shit, I’d pay money for that!
DollarMorgue says
Never fear to make someone laugh for a just cause.
shelley says
I remember in the 70’s it was fun & plenty humour to go around. Tons of laughs – major parties at people’s houses and events always had booze flowing freely – very short “event” part (locally run) with a MAJOR boogie afterwards. Insouciance, spirit of play & all that jazz.
And then it started getting VERY serious……… People routed to the E/O to M9 “Jokers & Degraders” PL. Events became somber and BORING. Chaos Merchant speak (we have to do it NOW, planet is on a dwindling spiral, no time for namby-pamby dilettante activities like parties, it’s not real until you reach the blood, sweat and tears stage – blah blah blah).
Interestingly, the change was co-incident with the disbanding of the GO and the Sea Org taking over Managing of orgs………. Up until then it was FUN. It all went downhill from there. And many of us “old timers” (I hate calling myself that) hung in there hoping and praying for a return of the good ‘ol days. They never came.

BTW, Mike, what is up with “New” OT III? Why “New?”
Mike Rinder says
Everything in the Golden Age of Tech II is “new.”
Scientology is like laundry soap. Every year there is a “new, improved, whiter” version to replace last year’s miracle.
There is nothing “new” about OT III. It is 75 million years old and hasn’t changed one bit (or 4 quadrillion if you want to get technical about it)….
Probably they explain it is “new” because you have to do the “new” solo course after the “new” student hat.
But bottom line is, you’re still going to be doing the same old shit on the “new” OT III as you did on the “old” OT III. Except the new has fast release deep cleansing enzymes that get you cleaner than clean.
Old Surfer Dude says
FOTFLMAO!!! You silver tongue devil! You certainly have a way with words! But…putting “New” in front of OT3, has nothing to do with the “New” solo course. Of course the word desperation comes to mind.

It’s difficult for me to read these outrageous pieces of promotion that have perpetuated the LIES …and cost the lives of so many … trees.
I encourage anyone who has SOME curiosity about this “MIND BRAIN BEHAVIOR INSTITUTE,” being built as a result of a 200 Million endowment to Columbia, to read about this institute.
To read about the brain vis a vis the mind. To continue to be curious.
And just in case you ARE curious include this book:
“The Emotional Life of Your Brain” by Dr. Richard Davidson. If MORE people who are now out of scientology understood MORE about the brain vis a vis their own mind –
We would have IMHO a far greater chance at helping others to see the narcissistic and yes … evil ways of LRH. Who somehow also brought to a GREAT DEAL of former hippies etc an interesting and important part of their lives.
It is just the beginning of the decompression OUT of scientology to view DM as the “big bad guy” — the next steps are seeing where he got HIS ideas and copied them and made them MORE SOLID AND MEAN/EVIL …
And then somewhere turning the mirror towards oneself and seeing his/her very human traumas and what that created …
It’s a process.
From which sometimes I feel AS IF I’ve just begun.
Although I left the Sea Org (clergy) in 1980 and took my last scientology service in 1993.
Always hopeful,

Beautifully stated, Windhorsegallery. It´s a critical point , this revitalization of curiosity, in the decompression from cult thought-stopping and intellectual arrogance. Thanks for sharing the book recommendation. For ex-scientologists(I am one), it is vital to read about the very subjects that Hubbard denigrated in order to reverse the corrosive effects of his ¨tech¨ . Happy researching-and may all ex´s be thereby freed from the ¨bridge to total freedom¨ lie.

I love finally getting the backstory on one of those supermen/women who rocket up the bridge with their left hand whilst running a business and raking in the money with their right. Surpise! It’s all fake! Thanks, Mike, you’ve just blown some of my self-inval and rekindled a failed purpose. I, too, can make it in life!

Mothersday on the patio will hence be known as Bloodbath Mothersday. The food is only there to lure in meat for the vultures.
As for ethics and finance, I heard about it years ago. I was sitting in the MAA’s office and overheard some poor soul objecting pitifully that he did not have enough money to make good on Cee Oh Bee’s (thanks, Newcomer!) demand for a “significant contribution”. Ethics and finance are old friends in scientology.
One of the (many) sources of my cognitive dissonance was actually the advertisement of these failed purpose seminars. How was that a button in scientology, and so frequently, when we were supposed to be about becoming more able? It seemed like we never, ever lifted off.
Finally, yes, next lifetime you will grow up thinking you’re a piece of meat because psychiatry by then will have stomped out all traces of enlightened religion. (They wish!) Actually, spirituality has a place in psychiatry, and is a very broad subject. Psychiatry is out to get you and drug you and drag you away kicking and screaming to lock you up just about as much as scientology is out to make you OT. Good luck with that then.
Love the Regraded Being section. I just recently read in Robert Lifton’s book on thought reform that “humor is antithetical to the thought reform environment”. You rock, Mike and RB!

Fascinated by Rafferty’s Bridge progress. Wouldn’t be a little quickie-ing going on would there? Went from OT III to OT V but did his Cause Resurgence 3 times? Or maybe he just ran round the pole 3 times? Isn’t OT V end phenomena “Cause over life”? So your Cause needs “resurging” right afterwards? I’m confused. Maybe you are making each future life “cause” each time you run round the pole. So he’s now Cause over his next three lifetimes. Yes, that must be it. He must be cause over his credit cards anyway – the magnetic strip must be worn out already.
Old Surfer Dude says
Hey Martin, not only that but the word “New” is now in front of OT III. Eh Luuuuuuuccccy! You have some ‘splaining to do! Can anyone tell what’s up with that? Did David “Let Him Die” Miscaviage find some hidden tech in a long forgotten closet?

Having been an org CS for eleven years, I guess the biggest shock to me about the Miscavige years is how stupendously bad and degraded the case supervisors have gotten in this time. Their understanding of their basics and the lack of integrity they display has truly hit rock bottom. In an era of the CoS where KSW is quoted continously, those involved in the actual tech of auditing have pretty much betrayed all of the points in this policy as well as Tech Degrades, Safeguarding Technology and Hidden Data Line. And Scientologists keep promoting their great wins on facebook. Well, I guess if you’re enjoying yourselves, knock yourseves out folks (because EVENTUALLY you will NOT be enjoying yourselves).
Subreption says
Joe you make an excellent point and well put. If we understand the SO member, fairly untrained, putting up with all the internal nuttiness, we cannot do so for trained Cses and administrators.
They know. They do understand, and to continue, they must forgoe integrity, and revert to some kind of robotic obedience.
Or as you say, their understanding of their basics and their lack of integrity.
If anyone in that structure could say “no” you would think it would be the CS.
Just say no. Then leave.
PS, I assume you are back home and not in Europe? (Based on previous comments of your interesting travels)
