When Miscavige feels most threatened, he invariably pulls the 1993 IAS event out of mothballs for re-airing in all orgs. This is Miscavige’s crowning achievement and when he feels his PR is being assaulted, in his mind this is the antidote.
Getting people to come into an org to watch this video yet again is a Sisyphean task. There is no current scientologist who has not seen it numerous times. And there are no NEW scientologists. So it’s a tough sell.
Miscavige is convinced this is the best reputation damage control he can do. Not come out in public and actually answer questions or make any appearance in the media. No, re-show a 25 year old video which represents the pinnacle of his achievements.
In fact, what it really demonstrates is that it’s all been downhill from there.
No other event since has been attended by even half as many people as were in the LA Sports Arena that night in 1993. This despite his pronounced “43X expansion,” “More expansion in the past 5 years than the 50 previous years” and “All Ideal Org expanding 10X upon opening.” Perhaps it truly IS the “turning point” of scientology — from which it will never recover…
It is a glaring contradiction. But in the world of scientology — nobody is supposed to ponder such things. To do so would be an unpardonable sin resulting in lengthy hours of sec checking. The trained seals quickly learn what is and isn’t good for you in the Scientology bubble.
PS: I wonder if they have added Marty Rathbun back into it now?
Just grabbed a couple of earlier iterations of this strategy:
Marie says
Was there any member here that was present at this event?
Mike were you there? Was Marty? I often wondered if they just rented all the people in the audience!
Well they all should enjoy the rerun of this event.
Because when they lose their tax exempt that will be a different kind of party.
Alcoboy says
I’ve always felt that the flags and torches as well as the podium make the damn thing look like a fucking Nuremberg rally!
Everybody say “Sieg Heil!”.
Alex De Valera says
No, it will never look like a Nuremberg rally! I just watched the real one and Hitler’s speech… I doubt the cult of greed ever had as many people worldwide as there were in Nuremberg that day. The cult is so paranoid and so apt at making enemies that it never acquired a position of power. I wonder wether they put Marty back on the tape.
Alcoboy says
Look, Alex, I’ve watched “Triumph des Willens ” (Triumph of The Will) and I feel that Miscavige up on that podium making all those grandiose statements reminded me of Hitler doing the same thing at Nuremberg. And the purpose was the same: to rally the masses behind an idea. In the case of Hitler, it was Nazism. In the case of Miscavige it was Scientology.
JustLook! says
ZZZZZ “Victory” over the IRS? Boy, that was a long time ago.

Old news, boring, boring.

Ron’s famous line of “If it isn’t written it isn’t true” means if Hubbard didn’t write it, it’s not true. Except, of course, if Miscavige wrote it. This is the ‘stable datum’ of dyed in the wool Scientologists. Therefore, anything on the internet written or uttered by someone other than ‘source’ or ‘son of source’ is not to be believed. Does that logic work for you?

“Son of Source”…:)

While there is so much wrong with bringing this 25 year old video out of the attic. My favorite is the hypocrisy of it. No, it’s what have you accomplished since last Thursday???

This goes along with Mike’s point of CO$ need to go back to old stories. My husband pointed out that Leah/Scientology made the Drudge Report news feed. Headline was that CO$ complained of a rise in hate crimes against them. The link is to this article. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/leah-remini-doubles-down-anti-scientology-crusade-i-want-a-federal-investigation-1027737 The example CO$ gives of RECENT hate crimes is an incident from 2015 according to this article. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/austin-woman-crashes-evil-scientology-church-article-1.2468090
The rest of us CAN use the internet and will check things out!
Mike, thank you to you and your wife. She looked beautiful in the photo from the TCA awards. When I saw her in the photo, I realized how much she is a part of this too. I don’t know how much else she does but by supporting you and taking care of the family while you are filming makes this possible. This fight is probably more grueling than any of us know. Thank you!
chicken says
Oh, this article calls them out: http://jezebel.com/leah-remini-doesnt-hold-anything-against-scientologist-1797688521: “It should be noted that both of the cited crimes occurred before Aftermath began airing—Andre Barkanov started making his threats in July 2015, and Erin McMurtry drove her car into her lobby of the Scientology building in December of 2015. However, Remini announced she left the church in 2013, and her memoir Troublemaker, in which she details her life in and after Scientology, was released November 2015. The only sources I could find positing Remini’s potential influence on Barkanov are on Scientologist-run sites, while McMurtry did indeed write about Remini a few times on her Facebook page. Still, if the church wants to argue that Remini’s show is doing damage to its members, they should probably update their examples. They apparently have 500 to choose from.”
Shelley Taylor Wilcome Trinh says
So what does David do when the money stops rolling in? Can a so called church /”Cult”start selling off all of those billions of dollars in empty buildings?
Can they file for bankruptcy if they don’t pay taxes? I think it’s going to take a lot of$$$ to pay for all of the children who are now adults that file lawsuits against them for all of the pedophilia and rapes and damage done to women and children that. were handled inside the Cult,
I saw Leah Remini on the late show with Stephen Colbert, she was laughing and answering questions but when he asked her about Aftermath you could easily see she feels very deeply for the people coming forward she had tears in her eyes when talking about how brave they are,
Mike Rinder was so right it doesn’t happen right away you have to expose them and the More they pull back that evil CULT of Scientology curtain they will see things change.
PeaceMaker says
Shelley, the CofS has enormous reserves – and the chance, and perhaps hope, of getting some of Bob Duggan’s billions.
Already, there are reports that hired outside security guards, help visitors use the video kiosks (intended to replace human recruiters) at Scientology “orgs.” They almost seem to be planning for a day when there might be virtually no actual scientologist staff left. And they might technically be able to sustain that for decades, if not a century, with the kind of money that they have.
The two biggest caveats, are that their reserves could be depleted if not wiped out if they had to actually comply with a lot of refund requests, or if lawsuits on other matters were successful; and that the more empty the orgs get of actual members, the more the CofS risks having the IRS decide that they do not meet the requirements to be considered a “church,” which would probably cripple them in the long run, though still not result in an immediate shutdown of operations.

I’m actually blown away now about Marty. He’s actually allowing a poster, in recent vid, to call Paulette Cooper the “Marter of the ASC.” (His spelling).
He’s allowed a few posts by me but has trashed more than he’s allowed.
That he allows this poster to call Paulette that name is so obscene.
I’ve tried to see the good in him. But it’s getting harder.
Chee Chalker says
What cracks me up is this – clearly Marty is getting his talking points from Miscavige,
One theme he repeats (ad nauseum) is how ‘old’ all the allegations are – from Paulette Cooper, to everyone who has been on Aftermath, etc etc.
And the irony in replaying an event from 25 YEARS AGO doesn’t seem to sink in for Marty?
Or is he no longer allowed to think on his own…
Harpoona Frittata says
Lil davey’s voice is definitely coming out of Marty’s mouth and he’s so badly rehearsed on his written talking points that he has to take long pauses to look down and figure out what he still needs to cover on DM’s bullet-pointed script.
WhatAreYourCrimes says
Watching Marty’s videos has made me realize, he is the King of Cringe.
Whose great idea was it? Obviously a simpleton came up with this child’s grand strategy of the recent Marty fiasco. Oh yeah, it was the King of Incompetence, David Miscavige.
Cre8tivewmn says
When he comments on how old the accusations are, does he acknowledge how old the book and movie he’s analysing are?
Brian says
Do you think DM is controlling?
The argument for Marty is that the abuse is “old news”. He treats these people who were harmed with sarcasm, smirks, planned dialog created for effect.
But DM is advertising the “old news is good” event. Marty is using the “old news is bad”. Can they be working together with such disparate media?.
I think I just hurt my self lol!

“I’m actually blown away now about Marty. He’s actually allowing a poster, in recent vid, to call Paulette Cooper the “Marter of the ASC.” (His spelling).”
Marty never fooled me, Brian. I always “sensed” his potential insanity and his hypocrisy, and thus, I always stayed away from his blog. In fact, his was the ONLY Scn related blog (either pro or anti, as I either participated or read BOTH) that I always avoided.
“I’ve tried to see the good in him. But it’s getting harder.”
I think everybody has “good” things in him/her. However, it is the PROPORTION between “good v/s bad” that is important. In Rathbun’s case I am afraid that the balance inclines too heavily towards the bad.
It is my opinion that Marty has always been this way. Scn only “turns into” bad, those who already had the seed of evil within themselves to begin with.
Marty’s days are counted as the day approaches more and more closer when he WILL be found out to had made an economic agreement with the church behind his ex-lawyer’s back. The fact that he felt forced to hire a well known (on his area) lawyer after the lawyers that his wife fired submitted a motion for the Rathbuns to turn in financial records, only shows, IMHO, that he is hiding something. Why would he feel any need to be professionally represented by an expensive lawyer if his consciousness is clean? It doesn’t make any sense at all. And what about his recent $100k ± investment for his new residence? I mean, the inheritance that he received several years back, should be already spent by now. It wasn’t that much to begin with as far as I know.
Marty has been shooting on his on foot since quite a few years ago. He finally succumbed to the harassment because he himself agrees with harassment tactics; he was a master at them. That’s my take, anyway. I wonder how he managed to forget his empty threat , “He (referring to DM) will rue the day when he brought my son into this”, that he uttered at the end of “My Scientology Movie”. At least he seems to be living up to his threat, “Mark my words. Tony Ortega and his unnamed sources will rue this day when they declared Monique Rathbun as fair game and subjected her to intentional libel”. His “unnamed” sources seem to have been every Scn critic, in the mind of this “warrior”, 😉
Brian says
The overt thus speaks loudly with accusation. That’s called projection; works for me.
Just sad. I liked the philosopher Marty. Pity.
Brian says
In other words; whereas Mike will cry when he gets in touch with what he did. That’s called conscience.
Marty is still in the dark about the life he lived. In all media since I have known him, when you bring up the past he gets, in your face; threatening. Or at least defensive.
His angry reactions, that he gives, is evidence of unhandled perception of himself. He has NOT come to grips with his past.
Scientology can traumatize people. Harming people for the “holy church” has its consequences. Karma ain’t no implant.
Karma is pure cause and effect. What we create, we must experience. Simple.
Thetaclear says
P.S. to Brian :
I had heard that at Rathbun’s blog, there were some posters trying to pose as old-time commenters of different Scn related blogs. I was researching a little bit the many stupidities that Rathbun was posting in “his” blog (of should I say OSA’s, haha), and stumbled across a comment from Ronbot Marildi. She was complaining that Mike had moderated one of her replies to a “poster” (referring to me), and blah, blah, yawn, yawn, Zzzzzzzzz…… you know, the usual Marildi-like stupidities. So she reposted that reply at Rathbun’s. On that comment that she had written to me as a reply to my criticism towards Rathbun, she wrote : “Then why did you wrote this?”, referring to a comment that I had supposedly written at Rathbun’s blog. The alleged comment was “Great job, Marty”.
Obviously I had absolutely no clue what on hell was she talking about as I had never posted at Rathbun’s, besides 1x like years ago!!! But then, I kept on looking down the other comments and what do you know, a poster allegedly called “Thetaclear” had in fact, posted that comment on THAT same thread. Here is the thread :
https://markrathbun.blog/2017/06/20/leah-remini-and-her-troublemakers/#comment-354439
And here is “my” alleged comment:
“ThetaClear on June 20, 2017 at 7:38 pm”
“Great Job Marty”
Can you believe this shit? OBVIOUSLY someone (or a few of them) is/are trying to post a regular posters of Scn related blogs. What are the chances that some poster would have picked up my exact nickname? In the last 3-4 years, I saw no example of this. Now suddenly that Rathbun is acting as a dog, a poster with the same nickname as one harsh critic of Scn/LRH/CofS is allegedly validating Rathbun publicly?
Brian says
If Marty had intellectual courage, he’d debate those he is dead agenting.
But that would not be dead agenting. That would be being a communication release and dialoging.
If he had a point to make and believed in his argument he would dialog like an adult.
But being the student of Hubbard, the knowledge he has been taught is “ruin utterly” the critic. That is who he is now.
Scientology can create intellectual cowards. Making self righteous attack dogs.
Thank you Leah and Mike. Thank you A&E. Its take down time.
Marty’s blog has now become more reason of the dangers of Scientology.
He has made the case against himself.
I still wish him well and hope he wakes up.
Thetaclear says

That’s right, Brain!
You know, I think that, like in any sphere of life (cult, religion, club, work, social group, etc), we encounter good decent people and also, “rotten tomatoes”. The decent ones never let themselves to be changed by LRH’s crazy ideas. If they did changed a little bit, their good conscience was enough to straighten them out one way or the other. But the rotten tomatoes? Those ones like Marty already HAD the seed of evil within themselves. What LRH’s methods did, was to make that evil seed to grow faster. That’s your Marty, Brian. Someone you actually enjoyed hurting others. This wasn’t LRH’s doing; Marty was already rotten to begin with.

My practice is to see the good in all, to the best of my ability. It’s a practice I’ve learned is quite valuable in a step towards liberation.
Loving all, even the assholes, not only benefits the receiver; but the giver gains power over the mind. That of course does not mean that I would not protect those I love by force.
But even then, I still don’t have to hate them. I just need to be effective protecting innocence.
Unconditional love takes great mental strength. It’s not a bestowed gift from nature. I got my ass kicked to learn it.
Grateful now for my teacher. I learned it from him. And my mom too❤️

It is a good practice, Brian.
“Loving all, even the assholes, not only benefits the receiver; but the giver gains power over the mind. That of course does not mean that I would not protect those I love by force.”
I tried the “Buddha’s way” before, as a student myself, of original “Theravada Buddhism” and of “Non-dualism” with teachers such as Adyashanti and Mooji among others; but it just didn’t resonate with me, you know. IMHO, love is not to be self-imposed, but unfortunately, that’s exactly what most of those philosophies do, even though that it isn’t obvious that they do. One thing is to not embrace hate as part of ANY “solution” in life – to which I fully agree, and ACTUALLY, conduct myself accordingly – and another entirely different thing is to feel either “morally” or “philosophical” forced to love others unconditionally. IMHO, that’s just impractical and even unhealthy. Perhaps there is just too much of a “warrior” in me, 🙂
“But even then, I still don’t have to hate them. I just need to be effective protecting innocence.”
Like you, hate is not part of my personality. Actually, it has never been, either before Scn, during, or after it. My two main principles or “mottos” in life are :
1. To never take anything personal.
2. To never seek revenge, but , mercifulness, forgiveness and rehabilitation.
I am sort of a super “Vulcan” personality who base his conduct in life in logic and common sense rather than in the mystical and rather impractical concept of “unconditional love”. Thus, I can easily cut anybody’s head off when I need to, but I never forget to put it back when I have made my point clear enough, and have already established order. Can that be considered as “Unconditional Love”? Perhaps it can, though I don’t see it that way. I mostly see it as an “emotionally detached” response to livingness. As a logical and common sense response to life’s dilemmas.
“Unconditional love takes great mental strength. It’s not a bestowed gift from nature. I got my ass kicked to learn it.”
Yeah, I know what you mean, as I struggled with it myself for decades!!! But at the end, I decided that it was a wrong purpose to begin with. But I highly admire those who strive to develop it, as that only demonstrate a compassion not that abundant in society.
“Grateful now for my teacher. I learned it from him. And my mom too”
Aren’t mothers great indeed!!! 🙂
Brian says
There is a misconception about unconditional love out there in the world.
To love all does not mean that we are permissive with their bad behavior.
Or that we even have to like the person.
Unconditional love is a soul recognition. It’s recognizing that part of a person that transcends all conditions: good and bad.
It’s recognizing that they are temporarily in an ignorant state evolving towards something greater.
On a cloudy day when the sun is gone, we can know that behind the clouds is still something of beauty.
It may not be manifested to obviously see. It is also the ability to look at a piece of coal and see the hidden potential diamond.
Unconditional love sees behind the facade of space and time, behind unseemly personalities and identities to see the essence of the Spirit within each person.
I can even dislike a person and still have unconditional love.
Unconditional love sees the fulcrum upon which personalities have their sway.
It’s not permissiveness or spineless whimpering affection.
It’s the power to see the truth within all beings. Human or otherwise.
It’s a practice that gives great spiritual power to the giver as it neutralizes the polarity of human inharmony. Definitely for the giver and sometimes for the recipient.

Will the SuperHero be there to reinforce how great He is, or will the commission-collecting Reg introduce the event by telling the herd that before they will be allowed out of the doors they need to commit $upport for the 47x growth that is occurring
What size room will the event be held in and won’t the number of empty seats, evident to the wandering eyes of the inmates, cause them to wonder what happened to the crowds?
Just wondering – thanks for any insight.

Marc Headley writes in Blown for Good that the LA Sports Arena was about 2/3 full – its capacity was about 16,000, so that would make around 10,000 in attendance. There was a huge push to get people to fly in from around the world, but interestingly, he notes that even back then, Scientology was struggling to fill the Shrine Auditorium (capacity 6,300) for other major events, and had to rope off the balconies because they could only get about 4,000 to attend, and about half of those staff.
That arena would today hold pretty much the entire active worldwide membership of Scientology – including staff. I wonder if playing that video, leads anyone to wonder why Scientology no longer has large events.

Marty is the worst kind of apologist; the kind that seeks to make nothing of the victims of Scn, by either ignoring the harm done (often under his watch), or by making it meaningless. Shame on you, Marty.

If there are any fence sitters or UTR’s out there, please go look at this video and then tell us if he put Marty back in it!

Can’t wait for season 2. I would love for you to tell Jenna Miscavige’s story to your viewers. She did manual labor for hours a day and was responsible for dispensing medications–all at age 7. If she doesn’t want to appear on the show, you can just reference her book. It is interesting that the hammered an ex-scientologist (Mr. Rathbun) hard enough that he finally cracked. I wonder what they did to him, or his family/loved ones.

They gave him money. Just my opinion (and it seems the opinion of his wife’s lawyers) but it seems the most likely scenario.

If you were a practicing Scientologist, would there be any excitement about this at all?
Judy says
I’d rather pull fangs from snakes then sit through that mangliomaniac b.s.

Sounds like desperation has set in for Mr. M! Breaking out an old video with no updates to redeem his failing reputation. Kinda sad really. Sounds like he is losing hi grip on reality.
Aquamarine says
Ha Ha! Miscavige needs to take a page from our current POTUS’s PR playbook and travel around and go directly to the orgs to reinforce their support for him and Scientology. Little caps with a catchy slogan miniature busts of LRH and other Scientology ephemera. Imagine how thrilled the Sheeple will be that Great & Powerful COB is coming their humble org to meet with Little Them. Forget these satellite events, the thrill is gone. Personal appearances are the way to go. Give those DBs the thrill of their lives and cement your base.

OMG, he truly is a very sad and very little man, both in stature and maturity. I picture this little munchkin jumping up and down furiously yelling in a shrill little voice, “Never Forget how Great I Am”. He really does have some serious issues of way too high self-esteem, mirrored with way too few accomplishments.
Peter Nortom says
In his case, that’s not “self esteem”. It’s desperation. In the UK, I believe he’d be simply defined as a “twit”.

Dave,
Kim Jong-in is blowing a gasket by going nuclear. Good to see that you are following in the footsteps of Hubbard by dredging up the past and going out with a whimper.
On the wall that Trump Won't build says
You think that Scientologist would want war. That way they can leave their bodies and stuff like that.
