Here is one for the gag file.
We have all come to know about the hype that is used to make everything sound soooooo amazing and incredible.
But really, Laurie Webster being promoted as a “world famous celebrity”? The only thing she is known for is making endless false promises to defraud people out of their money to “urgently complete” the SP Building when they had all the money needed to do it but just didn’t want to end the cash cow.
If the end phenomena of completing Super Power, Cause Resurgence, OT VII, Class VI and OEC/FEBC is being an accomplished liar and able to take money from people they cannot afford without any concern for their well being, then I guess she epitomizes everything that is wrong in the vulture culture. What a poster child for scientology — you too can become a cold, uncaring con artist.
Of course, she doesn’t do “field activation” she does crush-sell fundraising. But apparently this is all that is really needed for “Ideal Orgs”.
I also wonder how she will describe the difference between regging and fundraising? It could be revealing. I wonder if such an “on Source” scientology executive will come up with any policy that justifies fundraising because as an OEC/FEBC Laurie surely knows that there is a LOT of policy that forbids it. And I wonder what course they will stick attendees on?
But the burning question is whether this world famous celebrity will be signing autographs in the Paloma Blanca? That could make the $2350 price tag a steal.
What is really sad about this is that in the world of scientology, she probably IS a celebrity. At least in the eyes of Dear Leader. And after all, that is all that counts.
Bruce Ploetz says
Not sure if everyone “got” it but what this really is has to do with getting “FSM” commissions for donos.
Come to the Freewinds and get hatted on how to fleece your friends and relatives for $100,000s and make 10% for yourself! A new career! Let your Facebook page make money for you while you sleep!
Honestly I thought Amway was a little over the top but at least your customers got some soap out of the deal. This is truly money for nothing.
Now even lowly Freewinds passengers can rock and roll like Jeff Pomerantz after an IAS event, and bring in the big bucks. Makes me sick to think I was ever involved in it.
Taylor says
Just to clarify a Navy LT Jg is equivalent to a 1st LT in the Army and a Captain equals a full bird Army Colonel (in rank only). Not that it really matters I believe 99.9% are Brevet ranks. Remember the commanding officer of an aircraft carrier in the Navy is a Captain. Scientology does follow naval insignia pretty much to the letter.
Just wanted to clear that up a little bit as well as thank Mike who has been really working hard on this blog. The output of articles, usually two a day, as of late is really fantastic. As an added bonus Mike knows his subject matter so for a never-in I find his knowledge base invaluable.
I have noticed just a little acrimony as of late which is a bit of a distraction. Nevertheless Mike keeps plugging away while also allowing a wide range of readers to post their feelings be they positive or negative.
It goes without saying Mike Rinder has a personal familial stake in regards Scientology so I believe his motives are all above board and heartfelt. For all of those affected family members who’s lives have been harmed by the practices of scientology while I was never in I do hope this nightmare ends sooner rather than later.
By reading this particular posting it just amazes me how ingrained the pathological mental illness of this money sucking organization based at the FLB, Clearwater continues day after day. The sooner this madness ends which I believe will be accelerated by gagII, the better. To me this constant thirst for all of these kool-aid drinking followers to give up all their money is just so blatant it just screams out that the management of this crime syndicate is really sick.
I am glad that Mike along with others are fighting the good fight and that very soon this horror story can end.

Know I recall Laurie Webster.
I was held up by the MLO at the Sandcastle hours for her.
$35,000. right now on credit cards which I didn’t have .
She looked at me like I was from another Planet and said
” I went up the Bridge on Credit Cards” I turned ice cold and it was 90 degrees.
Good luck all Earthlings that meet Laurie Webster,
As for Lt (jg) It’s not who you know but who you Blow.
The Oracle says
She told you she went up the bridge on credit cards. But she didn’t tell you how. She did go up the bridge on credit cards. Then she decided to join the Sea Org. As a PUBLIC, she spent weeks inside the Sandcastle, begging for donations to pay off her credit cards. She begged from other public. Essentially telling them she was desperately needed as Freewinds staff, so that OT8 could be released. And that since THEY were not willing to join the Sea Org, they should at least propel her forward. She did pay for her bridge on credit cards, she just didn’t pay the cards off. Flag Public paid her cards off. And Scientology wasn’t the only thing she put on those cards. She got her bridge for free. Because, her life was “more important” than the lives of others. Now from the commissions she has earned begging ever since, she has a nice fat bank account! She is even a cornerstone member!
She was recruited to be an exec, but she and her husband, both Commanding officers at one time, were so abusive to staff beneath them, she was bumped down to the streets to chew on public.
Martin Padfield says
OEC/FEBC grad??? Flunk!!!!! Retrain immediately. Especially Vol 7 policies expressly forbidding no-exchange regging and buying real estate you can’t justify financially. What a pathetic indictment of all things “tech” and policy that she should be held up as an opinion leader or some sort of guidon.
Idle Morgue says
They are going to hat you on the difference between fundraising and registration?
Fundraising is necessary to keep the “smoke and mirrors” in place while we $ell you a Bridge to no where.
Registration is necessary to get you good and trapped in Scientology by putting a huge amount of money (yes, go in debt to make you weaker) on account so we can than fund raise the crap out of you while you are trying to go up the Scientological Bridge rigged with land mines that will blow your world apart (also intended to make you weaker).
The similarities: They are intended to cave you in financially and cause you problems Scientology will then $ell you the $olutions to. Only there are no solutions – just more fundraising and registration.
A endless trip of fleecing either way!

Actually, if you look closely with squinted, myopic eyes, she looks vaguely like Jamie Lee Curtis. And I believe, like Jamie Lee, Laurie is getting her acting debut in a very long running horror movie.
Might be why she’s billed as a celebrity. Of course, she’s a celeb to miscavige because she’s really raking in the dough.
The Oracle says
I don’t think he meant to imply she LOOKS like Elizabeth Taylor. She has just had the many marriages as E.T. did. Her last names took up one hand before she even went into the Sea Org.(Solo, Furbish, Guerin, Adams , and Webster)

Also, seems there is a major button on “money” runnng through ths blog. Its getting kinda old – is there nothing else you can “find” to keep this blog interesting to intice the haters to push your donate button to assist you in “destroying the Orgs” – LRH would be soooo proud of you Mike, remember the “gifts” he gave to you and Marty. How could Marty even be a part of such a lying, misleading show that was aired on H2? Snapped terminals perhaps? You and Marty got a very bad scene going there, lets hope it improves soon.

DAoT says
Check the text scanned from the back of the flyer. Reading comprehension was a skill I learned outside of the CoS, but that might be considered “other practices” now.
Bottom line (and my family has been affected) is that the money for no exchange, that’s the point Mike keeps bringing up. There are zero services being delivered in Fuindraising. No one goes “clear” off of the 40K, 50K or 100K that they donate for “ideal orgs”. These are often people that aren’t up the Bridge, at all.
There are no Scn policies that authorize fundraisers. LRH never accepted them. That’s the “money” point.
I know I would have traded my Meritorious or my Super Power dono cert for a simple green form. I’ve donated hundreds of thousands, but got delivered zero services. It was the same story with several friends who had money on account at Flag.

HaRoL: The “button” you question has traction on this site because so many of Mike’s fans have been ripped off by the “church” of Scientology Inc with no hope of getting their money back. Mike, and others, are raising an alert to people that giving money to Scientology Inc is a) an invitation to get ripped off b) an invitation to have unannounced leeches at your door at 1am on Thursday and c) be declared a suppressive person without any sort of paperwork, justice action, or a chance to defend yourself.
It’s injustice.
Which really torques people off.

Lt (jg)— I guess that’s a Sea Org rank.
scnethics says
Lauri will also cover why scientology puts the FUN in FUNdraising:
1. Scientologists don’t expect to see a ledger showing where funds go
2. Scientologists a) have no questions and b) couldn’t ask them if they did
3. When you lie to them (e.g. Super Power will be done THIS YEAR), scientologists a) put it out of their mind or b) make an excuse for you (to avoid having to ask an obvious question) or c) will ask something benign like, “what happened?” and then accept ANY answer you give them.
But Lauri, here’s how scientology takes the FUN OUT of FUNdraising: most everyone is out of money, bankrupt, maxed out and tired – not to mention the big numbers of people who are going to take a long break from making donations. And when you fail to bring in the big numbers for LRH Hall (which this Freewinds “appearance” is no doubt an attempt to correct), you’ll get the same treatment every other well-known scientology executive gets. Enjoy your years in RPF followed by permanent obscurity! No scientologist will have the cahones to ask about you, either, or really care what happened to you.

1. It would be interesting to know just when this flyer was sent out. If it was in the last couple of days, it’s clear that the people sending it out have no actual intention to get people to attend this event. It takes a lot more than a week for people to schedule time off of work, book cheap airline tickets and pay for the event.
Incidentally, if I booked today, I could fly LAX-Aruba for $900, but if I waited a month it would only be $550. That’s money that would otherwise be available to the reg’s but the RCS is letting the airlines have it. That’s pretty sloppy on the part of the RCS — letting anybody else have a shot at the money. They ought to be arranging meeting fares for trips to the ship so they can get a travel agent commission off each booking plus saving money for the members so they can reg that out of them once the cruise gets under way.
2. It would be interesting to see what other events they have scheduled at the same time as this all-important must-attend phenomenal world-shaking conference. Every time I see the Freewinds schedule, they have four or five events scheduled at the same time. I suspect it’s pretty difficult for them to get even 100 people per week on the ship these days… Somebody was able to track down passenger manifest data showing that some MONTHS they have substantially fewer than 100 passengers.
3. If the speaker is so amazingly world famous, why is she ranked “Lieutenant (j.g.)”? That’s one step above the bottom of the ranks of commissioned officers in the US Navy. So a 60-ish year old woman who has barely managed to climb the ranks of the people on the ship is worth listening to?
4. Talk about not believing in your own product. How come Laurie has completed New OT VII but not done OT VIII, which ought to be simple after all those years of solo auditing? After all, isn’t OT VIII perhaps the biggest reason to go to the ship, since it’s not offered anywhere else?
The Rock says
For a normal Sea Org member, LT. is the highest rank one can obtain. It would take 8 promotions to obtain that rank. It is the 4th rank of officer. These days, NO ONE is awarded LT.
Ranks are:
Swamper (no rank)
Petty Officers:
(Represented by chevrons on the arm)
Petty officer 3rd class
Petty officer 2nd class
Petty officer 1st class
Chief petty officer
Officers:
(Represented by bars on the shoulders)
Midshipman
Warrant officer
Ensign
Lt. Junior Grade
Lt.
Ranks above lieutenant are assigned based on certain posts, and so are temporary ranks.
The head of a continental Liason office is a Lt. Commander.
A member of the Int Exec Strata or Watchdog Committee is a Commander.
ED Int, CO CMO Int, and COB were the only Captains for a long time.
I believe COB is the only one whose Captain rank was considered his true personal rank, and not just his post rank.
The fact that Laurie Webster has been in the SO for as long as she has, and that she has raised as much money as she has, and is NOT a lieutenant just goes to show how reluctant COB is to actually validate people in a meaningful way.
Introducing ANY Sea Org member as a world famous celebrity is just weird. I have never seen such a thing.
Sea Org members simply don’t do OT 8. In 15 years I only ever saw ONE Sea Org member start and complete OT 7 in the Sea Org, and that was Andres Rodrigez, and he only did it because he had to for his post (Snr C/S WUS)
The amount of sec checking and auditing a person needs to do for Preps and Elig for 7 and 8 makes it impossible for a Sea Org Member to do. Also, an SO member would never be allowed to leave post twice a year to go to FLAG for 6 month checks.
Mike Rinder says
Excellent and accurate except there are appointed (personal) ranks above Lt. For example, Shelly Miscavige had the rank of Lt. Commander. Norman Starkey was a Commander at one time. But these days they are extremely rare. Maybe only Lou now.
Miscavige also made Janet McLaughlin, President IAS a Captain (but that was “brevet” or temporary based on post) until he put her in the Hole.
Cindy says
The Rock, you said, “…Also, an SO member would never be allowed to leave post twice a year to go to FLAG for 6 month checks.”
Well I have gagging news for you. The SO recruiter who tried to recruit me while I was on OT VII said that as a SO member I wouldn’t have to do 6 month checks while on the level. Why? I asked. “Because you don’t get into ethics trouble in the SO like you do in the wog world, so no need to Sec Check you for 6 month checks.”
He acted like the Public were dirty, out ethics dogs and the SO members were clean-handed angels and that therefore, no time or money need be spent on refreshers for SO members. (A denigration of public Scns.)
Portraying the two groups, SO vs Non- SO in such black and white terms, such “us vs them” terms, was a wrong indication for me. Weren’t we all on the same team with the same goals? I thought so anyway.
I think the truth of the matter is that SO members as a general rule don’t have money, so no need to try to reg them for Sec Checks on Refreshers because they can’t pay for it. (can’t squeeze blood out of a turnip), and no need to “waste” auditor personnel to auditing them as they were “just SO.” Again a wrong indication and a denigration of SO.
And what a shame that an OT VII posted on the Freewinds doesn’t get to do OT VIII when that is the main product of the Freewinds where she lives and works.
John P. Capitalist says
Thanks for the data on ranks in the Sea Org… It certainly is a bit different than in the US Navy… Also, it shows just how over the top things are: there’s only one grade of enlisted personnel and then everyone else is officers, which sounds pretty funny. Of course, there are three other grades of enlisted personnel that don’t officially appear on the charts: RPF, RPF’s RPF and RPF’s RPF’s RPF.

some thoughts on your thoughts.
1) could be it’s a BS event designed to target a few, maybe even one or two specific whales who they “know” with be available then, by making THEM think it’s a big event.
seems a pretty fair guess to think that if they thought they could get a 1or 2 or 10 million dollar donation from just one target, they would contrive whatever they thought would work.
or, they don’t care about the high airfare because it’ll go through sci own travel agents who might get a bigger commission on a higher price. that would be so in character for them.
besides they have a planet to clear. but you’d know that if you knew what the square root of an exclamation point was.
2) i’m thinking most of them are “busy” events. have to keep the hive humming and pressed lest they rest, catch a breath and realize the real lies.
so they can’t really help having conflicting events.
they have to keep everyone wound up tight and with no/broke public they have to come up with busy work all the time. they are after all expanding…..or didn’t you know that? yeah it’s true, it’s on their website.
3) because she is I/C of the superpower project silly.
4) never no mind she didn’t herself complete a project she is in charge of. you’re just an invalidator you don’t have to be a chicken to show it how to lay eggs.
Thought at large: she is a “special” celebrity. isn’t that special. special in this case is defined as “unknown”.
if we were speaking PHP “special” would be called a “variable”.
perhaps she get’s to ride in the “special” sea org bus.

Scientology knew about the (blue) asbestos contamination for a long time. One knuckle-headed Sea Org stooge in authority refused to handle the contamination because Hubbard had only said that fiberglass — not asbestos — was dangerous.
So for all those celebs and others who were onboard breathing in contamination, some of them will doubtless welcome themselves into the future of mesothelioma and other diseases.
Yet another example of Hubbard getting it wrong, and the fundamentalist lemmings following him over the cliff. If they listened to people (“wogs”) with real training and education, they would have known better.
Holding himself out to be an expert on absolutely everything not only let Hubbard make a fool of himself, but it has also done material harm to numerous people — spiritually, mentally, and physically, even if it has done some good in the mix.
Tom says
Unless the copy of Clear Body, Clear Mind to be found on a certain German/English Freezoner site is incorrect or altered, Hubbard was well aware of the carcinogenic properties of asbestos. He mentions grey not blue type. Check the glossary. I’ll let you suss out the website–wasn’t hard for me to find.
The Hubbard said so it’s okay line doesn’t work for the Freewinds unless NONE of the folks involved had done their purif and appropriately that text. This was about (literal) cover up, money-scrimping and convenience.
